Here's your chance, tell us what you think was good this war or needs re-working for next war.

We start planning early because we are lazy. It will take us just that long to modivate ourselves for new and exciting Burning Hand adventures!

My personal enties.

First, the good
1. tri-pony baby! (going for 2 days next year)
2. Great Veranda night - Guys drinking beer out of bowls without using their hands, pantsless story time, worst pennsic pick up line puppet show and of course, hand stands in a kilt! (mwahahahaha!)
3. The new bar
4. Fire fan dancing (we want more! we want more!)
5. Awesome new people and friends

the bad
1. The veranda was good, but I think we need to work out making it deeper
2. The trailer for the keg bar needs to go. It takes up too much space in the trailer and we never really use it.
3. More level ground needed with people doing things with fire.
4. Couldn't get the fingers in the hand to light. Solution MORE ACELERANT!!

The Ugly
Actually, not really any ugly in camp. Although I think one or two passed by the Veranda. I shutter to think.

A Burning Hand Sister Camp

This is a new topic for here, but has been on the table for the past couple of months.

We are contemplating starting a "Kid Friendly" sister camp somewhere to help out with those who would like to come to Pennsic but would not have to be concerned with finding people to watch lil Jack and lil Jill.

Advantages
Parents could take turns watching kids each night so that everyone would have a ample time to go out and play.
Addresses possible concerns of overflow down the road. (the block seems to be getting pretty tight)
More Burning Hand Cool Stuff!

Dis-Advantages
Not sure where we could have the other location
Two Camps to have to set up and tear down
More Burning Hand Crap.

So, right now we are opening up the forum to see who would be interested.

Things that would need to be resolved.
1. Who is going to Camp there
2. Who would act as land agent (I would do it but I am not camping there so unless someone else does it, I would need to "swap spots" with someone else)
3. What would we call it
4. Where would it be (location)
5. What would we need to provide for it.

Plus anything else that we can think of.

Because Pennsic seems to be becoming more conservative and PC as the year’s progress, and the wild and crazy stories seem to get thinner and thinner, we, the members of The Clan of the Burning Hand propose a contest. A contest to see who has the metal of spirit to be awarded the "Most Worthy Debaucherist"! There for we welcome you to...

The First Annual - Burning Hand's "Competition of Unmoral and Notable Tribulations" or

** CUNT **

The winner will earn the glorious title of The Biggest CUNT!

Here's how it works:
Participants will attempt different tasks to achieve points. The Participant at the end with the most points wins.

Points are scored in two ways. The first is points awarded on how task completion is proved. The second way is through "style points".

Proof of task completion is scored as follows:
1 Point for Burning Hand member (or anyone with the FYLM Belt favor) willing to vouch for task completion.
5 Points for a non-member that is willing to vouch that task was completed. Note, non-member must either be upset over the ordeal or not like the participant in question. A Bonus 20 points is awarded if the non-member comes to camp to "tell the story" in excess of 24 hours after the task was completed.
25 Points for a Picture detailing task completion
50 Points for Audio of task completion
100 Points for Video of task completion

Recommended Style Points are listed under the tasks

Here are the following Tasks to score points.

1. Singing the Hurltide or Puke Singing (Gluttony) - When a Participant exceeds his/her "Fun Limit" will sing Christmas Carols while vomiting. (Style Points: 5 for vomiting in time with the song, 5 points for each song sung with vomiting, 100 bonus points for completing the entire 12 days of Christmas with vomiting at the end of "and a partridge in a pear tree”. Style point subtraction of 1 point for any non-Christmas song sung)

2. Snarfolicious (Wrath) - When the participant makes an unsuspecting victim Snarf. (Style Points: 5 Points for a commoner, 10 points for a fighter, 25 points for a bellydancer, 50 points for Security and 100 points for Royalty. Another 10 points awarded for it being an alcoholic beverage and another 20 Points for obvious residue from the Snarf.)

3. PDN - Public Displays of Nudity (Pride) - When the participant is exposing themselves in Public Areas and encampments. Note: Camps COTBH, HOB, Lost Boys, Swamp Camps and the Classic areas are excluded. (Style Points: 5 points for proving what "is worn under a kilt", 10 points for toplessness (Men excluded), 25 points for bottomless, 50 points for exposure during daylight, 100 points for daytime exposure in a populated area {example: The Market Area, The Food Court, etc})

4. Pennsic Meal Plan (Greed) - When a participant is able to politely (and with permission) able to aquire food from more than 5 separate camps that are not your own in a 24 hour period without any payment in return. (Style Points: 10 Points for 5 full meals, 25 points for free food from a vendor in the food court, 50 points for food from a Royal Meal not invited to, 100 points for eating all courses of a Royal Meal without an Invite)

5. Nap Time (Sloth) - Sleeping or Napping in more than 3 separate camps that are not your own in a 24 hour period. Participant must sleep for an excess of 2 hours to count. (Style Points: 5 Points for sleeping in the middle of the camp, 10 points for someone else's tent, 25 points for someone else's Hammock, 50 points for a Royal Encampment, 100 Points for a Royal's Bed)

6. Aquisitionism (Envy) - Appropriating an item from an encampment not your own without their knowledge. (Style Points: 10 Points for items used as fencing for an encampment, 25 points for any item that requires more than one person to carry, 50 points for Items belonging to a Royal Encampment, 100 points for an item belonging to a Royal. A bonus 200 points if the person who acquires the item returns the item in person to the original owner after a 24 hour period).

7. Tea Bagging, Milk Jugging or Pie in the face (Lust) - Scoring takes place when a participant is able to Tea Bag (male) or Milk Jug (female) another person. In case someone is unaware, Tea Bagging is a Male's bare Genitalia applied to another person, Milk Jugging is when a woman applies her bare breasts to another person. A bonus 20 points is awarded to a woman who applies her bare Genitalia to someone. (Style Points: 5 Points for application to the Face, 10 Points for application to someone of the same sex, 25 Points awarded (both parties) when done in tandem, 50 points for security carts or personnel, 100 points to Royals.)

Bonus Task! Someone may elect to come up with their own task to score points. The Task must be pre-approved and reviewed for points prior to the task. No Bonus Tasks will be considered after the fact.

Committee Points: If more than 5 COTBH Members agree, something that happen to someone in the competition may be awarded points if deemed within the spirit of the competition. Note: Those members must come to an agreement to points awarded.

PLEASE BE AWARE! This competition is created to bring more funny, interesting and bizarre stories to individual's Pennsic Experience. This is for fun and to be funny. Breaking the Law and endangering people's health is Strictly prohibited. Anyone found doing either will be eliminated from the competition, disassociated from all members and turned over to the appropriate authorities. Also, at no point what-so-ever should anyone under the age of 18 be involved in any way, shape or form. Doing so will cause banishment from the competition and the group.

ALSO!
Point deductions will be enforced for anything that is not part of the tournament. Half of all acquired points will be removed for the following:
Anything affecting the sanctity of Cooper's Lake Campground, the Cooper's Staff or any of the Non-SCA volunteers.
Anything involving breaking any rules governing the SCA or Pennsic not already covered by the Law.
Any physical harm to any other person
Any emotional harm to another person without their consent.
Anything deemed not funny by a COTBH Committee of 5 or more members.
Anything deemed unacceptable by the Land Agent / Clan Leader of the COTBH.

Registration will take place every morning at Burning Hand Camp (between 10AM and 2PM depending on when we wake up.)

Scoring will be reviewed each morning on the veranda also during this time.

The COTBH's Chronicler / Reporter will keep the running score of all registered participants.

The winner will win next year's Pre-Reg for free (I offer this myself) and carry the title "The Biggest CUNT" till next Pennsic.
Other Prizes will be awarded based on different criteria.
The award Ceremony will take place at the Romachaunimas following Pennsic.

Dean Urges Primary Do Over in Florida and Michigan

WASHINGTON - The former head of the Democratic National Committee said Thursday it was doubtful DNC Chairman Howard Dean would be able to get approval for a plan for do-over presidential nomination contests in Florida and Michigan.

"It'll be a hellacious battle," said Don Fowler, a former DNC chairman who sits on the party's rule-making committee.

Before the primaries started, "Howard Dean had enough votes to get most everything he wanted. Now that this thing has gone as far as it has and the lines have formed according to candidates. I'm not sure how that vote would shake out now," said Fowler, who has endorsed Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Now, everything is being viewed in terms of how it benefits a particular candidate, not the party or the process, Fowler said.

Nonetheless, Fowler said, something has to be done, "the rules be damned" to seat delegates from states Democrats have to and can win in the general election. "We're going to forfeit those two big states? What kind of fools would we be."

Dean has urged Florida and Michigan party officials to come up with plans to repeat their presidential nominating contests so that their delegates can be counted.

"All they have to do is come before us with rules that fit into what they agreed to a year and a half ago, and then they'll be seated," Dean said during a round of interviews Thursday on network and cable TV news programs.

The two state parties will have to find the funds to pay for new contests without help from the national party, Dean said.

"We can't afford to do that. That's not our problem. We need our money to win the presidential race," he said. The DNC offered to pay for an alternative contest in Florida last summer but was turned down, officials at the party say.

Officials in Michigan and Florida have expressed renewed interest in holding repeat presidential nominating contests so that their votes will count in the epic Democratic campaign.

The Michigan governor, top officials in Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign, and Florida's state party chair all are now saying they would consider holding a sort of do-over contest by June. That's a change from the previous insistence from officials in both states that the primaries they held in January should determine how their delegates are allocated.

Clinton said she's waiting to see what proposal Democratic leaders in Florida and Michigan put forward. She won both contests, but the results were meaningless because the elections violated national party rules.

"I think it would be a grave disservice to the voters of Florida and Michigan to adopt any process that would disenfranchise anyone," Clinton told reporters Thursday at a news conference in Washington. "Therefore I am still committed to seating their delegations, and I know they are working with the Democratic party to determine how best to proceed."

She said it would be especially unfair to punish the 1.7 million Floridians who voted in the Democratic primary since the contest's date was moved up by the Republican-controlled state Legislature and the state's Republican governor.

"They clearly believed that their votes would count, and I think that there has to be a way to make them count," Clinton said.

The DNC stripped both states of all delegates for holding the primaries too early, and all Democratic candidates — including Clinton and rival Barack Obama — agreed not to campaign in either state. Obama's name wasn't even on the Michigan ballot.

Florida and Michigan moved up their dates to protest the party's decision to allow Iowa and New Hampshire to go first, followed by South Carolina and Nevada, giving them a disproportionate influence on the presidential selection process.

But no one predicted the race would still be very close at this point in the year.

"The rules were set a year and a half ago," Dean said. "Florida and Michigan voted for them, then decided that they didn't need to abide by the rules. Well, when you are in a contest you do need to abide by the rules. Everybody has to play by the rules out of respect for both campaigns and the other 48 states."

Projects and Deadlines

Looking at the SCA Event schedule, I have set my projects deadline as June 27th -29th (Talonval Event). Which should be a challenge considering the current funds situation.

We need to get an idea of what all we got to build and make this year.

As usual, due to funds and other limitations, I don't know if we are going to be able to do a new gate this year. We may need to just re-work what we got.

What requirements do we need with the gate.

Who needs tents?
Who needs chairs?
Who needs Garb?
What else do we need?
What needs to be repaired / replaced for war?
Who can help others get what they need for war?

The countdown is started! Let's get it on!

DETROIT - In another blow to the Motor City's tarnished image, Detroit pushed past St. Louis to become the nation's most dangerous city, according to a private research group's controversial analysis, released Sunday, of annual FBI crime statistics.

The study drew harsh criticism even before it came out. The American Society of Criminology launched a pre-emptive strike Friday, issuing a statement attacking it as "an irresponsible misuse" of crime data.

The 14th annual "City Crime Rankings: Crime in Metropolitan America" was published by CQ Press, a unit of Congressional Quarterly Inc. It is based on the FBI's Sept. 24 crime statistics report.

The report looked at 378 cities with at least 75,000 people based on per-capita rates for homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and auto theft. Each crime category was considered separately and weighted based on its seriousness, CQ Press said.

Last year's crime leader, St. Louis, fell to No. 2. Another Michigan city, Flint, ranked third, followed by Oakland Calif.; Camden, N.J.; Birmingham, Ala.; North Charleston, S.C.; Memphis, Tenn.; Richmond, Calif.; and Cleveland.

See? Cleveland is only the 10th most dangerous city in the U.S. Practically Mayberry. If it makes you feel any better, though, I think Clevesburg is still the fattest and poorest large city in the U.S. We're so proud!

How come Fuzzy never told us that he had a Taco Stand in the Dallas, TX area?

Fuzzy's is a taco shop near TCU with a famous "butt burning" taco sauce that each time i visit i sample it's burst of flavor and heat as a dime sized dollop on my palm whilst the employees piece together a marvelous balance of unique cheeses seasoned meat (or veggies) of your preference. When the tacos actually arrive on fresh soft or marvelously crispy containers, i dive in unfearing of the inevitable fallout that ensues. The balance of cool lettuce and fresh cilantro with the cheese that graces the taco and the meat brings an explosion of varied flavors that define what a taco can and should be, even if you're afraid to "burn the butt" as it were. on weekends the shop caters to the after bar crowd and stays open at least an hour past the 2am closing time. I strongly recommend if you're in the area and haven't sampled or if you're just visiting, patronize this texas institution, you will NOT be disappointed.

Next year's ideas

This year's projects I think were a huge success. The shower was awesome and the belt favors seemed to be everywhere.

talks around the campfire this year seem to be focused on possibly more or better seating on the "viranda" (sp?) and there was talk about re-working the gate.

Dom - I have an interesting sketch for a gate I would like to pass by you based on ideas you had before.

Is there anything else we would like to consider for next year? Keep in mind now is the time to dream big so we can scale down to reality by next war. No idea too crazy. Is there any problems we saw this year we could address for next?

Of course, first and foremost I miss each and every one of you. This, though way too short, was one of the my favorite Pennsics so far! Camping with you guys was wonderful!

And, remember how I said that your shower was the best one I've ever taken at Pennsic in six years? Well, I'll amend that - it's even better than my shower at home! In fact, my first post-Pennsic shower was kind of a let down this year.

Firewood Quarantine at Pennsic

Firewood Quarantine in Butler County:

Pennsylvania state officials have placed a quarantine on the transportation
of ash trees and firewood into or out of Allegheny, Butler, Beaver and
Lawrence counties after an emerald ash borer -- a tiny green beetle from
Asia -- was discovered in a tree in Cranberry.

The quarantine restricts the movement of ash nursery stock, green lumber and
any other ash material, including logs, stumps, roots and branches, and all
wood chips.

Because of the difficulty in distinguishing between species of firewood,
campers are being asked to use only locally harvested firewood, which should
all be burned on-site and not carried to new locations. All types of
hardwood firewood, including ash, oak, maple and hickory, are considered quarantined.

hey all - Angry Bob and I have officially pre-regged. Like three weeks ago and I'm just getting to tell you now. Boy, do I need a vacation.

We'll just be coming for the first week. Probably Sunday - Friday. And I might day trip one day of the second week with Angry Cosmo. He is also pre-regged, so you'll still get his space, though he won't be staying.

For the rest of y'all, a little bump.

Talks were heavy about doing a castle this year. Due to concerns of what Cooper's would allow and other multiple factors, we may be scaling back or not doing it at all. I was hopeful to do a lot of work in this area, but was not anticipating at 3700.00 car repair. This was my big project for the year and I hate scrapping it. But I don't see how to pull it off now. We still have time, but we will have to see. If you have any idea's, let me know.

Camping Spot - Are we going for E-23 again this year? I liked that spot. I didn't go to the previous years up on the hill, but visiting friends we have up there, I found that I like E-23 better. Just wanted to make sure.

Burning Hand Favors (Ensignia) - What will it take for us to decide on something! The Burning Hand of Oden to slap us all in the face!

Trailer - We are heavily working to get a trailer to leave at Pennsic. Still waiting for everyone to contribute. Also, we would need to make the arrangements for leaving it there if we can.

Shower Situation - Has not been brought up for a bit. Do we need to rethink this? With the trailer situation, I don't know what options we have. Will we be ok to use what we had last year?

Common Tent - are we doing the same as last year or are we going to try to resurrect the Lame Goat? Grim's tent is nice and easy, but if we have the space for transit back and forth, I have ideas. We could scaff something out. Dom knows the gear. We should have a lot available after the whole WWE thing.

Gear Transport - Other than the trailer that we are trying to acquire, are we going to need more to move all the crap?

Sewing - Kayia has the sewing shop open. If you need stuff, get with her. *Kayia - Let me know if you need help. I will do what I can. I think I have a bit on my plate. But like you, just need the material. Let me know if I can help out.

Other Projects? - Dom told me he may have a couple Chairs to make. I know there is at least one person wanting a tent. What other stuff are we going to need? Who needs help with what they are doing? I don't have much cash, but I am a helleva laborer.

If you have stuff you want to do for this year's war, get the word out. The clock is now ticking.

I plan to get my pre-reg done soon (Hopefully this week)

For the rest: We are hungry land people. So pre-reg, pre-reg, pre-reg!!!

Lumber for cheap

This week starting Monday the 17th, all lofts at MSU must start being torn down.
They must be out of the dorms on Saturday the 22nd.
I Work Monday, and Thursday night. I will talk to the tear down guys, and set something up with them on Weds.
Everyone with a truck, should be ready to grab lumber from them around 8PM.
I figure that is long enough for them to have a truck full.
Last year they told me if I gave them pizzas, we could have all we could haul, as they toss it, or ot gets picked up for free at their company, and the less they have to unload the faster they get to go home at night. I called Toadie, and he has garage space he says.
I will double check with these guys, and set something up. Hell if they will do it both nights. I will at least give em a couple pies, and run lumber myself on Tuesday too. PIzzas at my cost are like 5 bucks each, and we can get easy 1000 bucks in lumber for 30 bucks.
Just a heads up. Be ready for a call for Weds. IF they want pizza eralier or later, I will go with what time works best for them, as thye are the guys with the all the lumber.

Letting everyone know that it is set for December 2nd. It will be a Pig Roast (with some other meat as well). Dom and I are inviting the Big Heads, Gypies and Blood Jack. Anyone will to show can go! We only ask in return that you bring something to pass and maybe something to drink. We will do our best to provide, but stock is low since last Pennsic.

Currently, the coolest thing I thought was not what was burned but how it got there. In particular, when Dom talked Kamel into putting the wine bottle in the fire at Northern Oaken. That was cool till the next day. Doh!

I just wanted to thank Burning Hand for their hospitality and generosity at War. I had a great Pennsic and Burning Hand was definitely a big part of that. 3 a.m. hot dogs and chili.
