SF/MONTEREY BAYS Annonymous GOTH/INDUSTRIAL CARPOOLING project announced

The impact of a radically slowing economy and high gas prices has effected everyone in our scenes
which have all scene some attrition in the past couple of years and have reduced the number of
people travelling between scenes in the two Bay Areas (Montery/SF)

So instead of just allowing inner city transport between scenes to just dwindle to nothing,
We want to be proactive about encouraging carpooling between cities in an effort to increase attendance
and lower people's costs.

Santa Cruz has moved it's long running (almost 10 years now) Goth club to Sunday nights, specifically
to make it possible for people in SC to visit Death Guild or B.A.G.G. in SF and people in the Bay Area to visit the BOX in
SC without there being a conflict.

Consequently, There are now at least three weekly goth events and several monthly goth/industrial events in the TWO BAY AREAS for people who want to get their goth/industrial on and several

To save increasing travel expenses between cities we would like to propose
an EMAIL CARPOOLING scheme that is ANNONYMOUS , so that people
who want to participate can send their email addresses (and transportation needs and capabilities)
to one central location that is both ANNONYMOUS and hence ENTIRELY NON-SPAMMABLE.

This email list WILL NOT BE USED for publicizing events. It will ONLY BE FOR CARPOOLING SOLUTIONS.

So, anyone interested in either driving other carpoolers or catching a ride with someone who is driving already
from ANY LOCATION in the SOUTH BAY/SAN FRANCISCO/EAST BAY and MONTEREY BAY AREAS

Satori news for July-August

Hey everyone!

The Blank Club, the venue we hold Satori at, has some scheduling conflicts for the month of July. As of right now, it looks doubtful that we'll have a Saturday night date in July...HOWEVER!...we're pretty sure we'll have Wednesday, July 30th for Satori. We'll know more in the next few days, but I didn't want anyone thinking we weren't going to have a night in July. We're hoping this is just a one-time thing, as the Blank Club has been wonderful to us the past 2 years we've been there.

We've already got our August date, though, which is Saturday, August 30th. This will be an extra special night, though, since it's our 3RD ANNIVERSARY! That's right, as of August, Satori's been around for 3 years! Some of you might remember our first year at the Savoy, a small dive bar in Santa Clara. It was a fun little venue, but obviously doesn't have the draw the Blank does, and Tuesday nights sucked compared to Saturdays! We're very fortunate to have gotten a night at the Blank, and we hope to stay there for a long time! We hope everyone can come out and celebrate with us.

I'll post our official July date soon!

Thanks for coming out to Satori on Saturday and raising $340 for Sean's (Gobo) family to pay off medical bills and funeral arrangements. I'm sure his family really appreciates every dollar they're able to get. I want to personally thank everyone that donated.

If you didn't have a chance to, please visit www.savegobo.com and you can donate by PayPal. Sean will be missed, and I'm glad we were able to say a few words about him at Satori. I'm sure more official gatherings will be planned in the coming weeks, and I'll pass on any info I get.

Not 100% sure what's going on for July at Satori, I'll keep you posted, but in August...

The SaveGobo Committee: A message to all

It is with an unbelievable heavy heart that we regretfully inform all of you that Sean passed away this morning (06-13-08). He had his family by his side and was in no pain. It is an understatement to say that Sean will be greatly missed.

At this time no funeral arrangements have been made. Once we have details on a service we will post them here and on the forums. Please do not contact the family at this time as they need time to sort things out.

Looking for info/opinion about June Satori...

Hey everyone, hopefully someone can help me out here. Satori is early this month, and our June date is the 30th! So, we've got quite a bit of a break before the next night. Last year, we did our New Wave Prom at Satori in June, and it was great! This year, however, we're considering doing it on a different night so we can keep Satori the same spooky club we've been doing since we moved it to the Blank. Unfortunately, the Blank Club does not have an extra night for us in June, so we've got a few options.

1) Do New Wave Prom at Satori on the June 30th. Always fun, but very light on the gothy stuff.

2) Do NWP at another venue during the end of May/early June.

3) Skip NWP entirely!

What say you? If you think we should find a different venue, please recommend one!

My dear friend, Aci from the Royal Dead (the Japanese goth/future pop band that
just performed last night in Santa Cruz) is looking to
connect with an American promoter to help him with
upcoming tours in the United States.

I don't really know anyone who fits that bill. Does such a thing exist
in the Goth/Industrial world or is it done mostly by individual bands?

Many thanks to Vitus, and his awesome staff. The bar was polite and I even got the bartendress to top up the rum without question, THANKs! A good bar staff is hard to find and we really took note of how friendly your staff was. Clarice (the Blood Vessel) wants the doorman to know that he rocked for saving her a place to roll up to, she likes him a lot and we were all so flattered when he waved us in to berth.

Hey this Goth music is ole school with some new mixed in, well balanced. An smoke machines dont bother me at all. Everyone had such a great attitude there, well dressed and dancing their asses off. We had a great time.

Satori is not only a good club for San Jose but for the bay area overall!

Thanks for having us there!

Greetings from an SF (older) goth ! I traveld the 50 miles to Satori for the first time to check it out last night. Great music, super nice crowd, location wasn't bad at all !

But I had to leave early. *very sad*. The smoke machine was choking !!!!! For people like me (with allergies) and contacts, it was a lung killer. Would love to come again, but alas - that darned billowing smoke in such a small space is going to make it impossible. Anyways - I had fun for the short time I could stay. Thanks !!! All the best -

First of all, WOW, THANKS! Saturday was our biggest night ever! Huge thanks to the whole crew from Faktory for the fashion show, and to all of you. We had people from Santa Cruz, SF, Oakland, and all over the Bay Area there, it was incredible. We hope everyone will join us next month for our next night, but more on that in a minute. There were also a huge amount of requests we didn't get to, but don't worry, we've kept all the requests and we'll get to them next month, so make sure you come back!

Second, just a quick note, the guest list for the Blank Club closes at 11pm, so if you're on the list, you need to get there before 11pm. Please remember this for future events!

PIg Tour = Cancelled... is this a Coincidence?

The PIG tour is cancelled..... and Satori is on the same night.... now I know nobody here wants to accuse one of the Satori DJs of being up to no good, so I'll have to do it instead. I guess this sort of thing is what happens when you mess with the South Bay.

I'm only glad that they didn't decide to have the event a week earlier... and then cancel July 4th.

Last night was AMAZING. Seriously, that was by far the biggest and best turnout we've ever had! Big thanks for the group that came all the way down from Sacramento (and for those of you in the area, or people wanting to take a road trip, check out the fucking kick ass Club Noir in downtown Sacramento!), Santa Cruz, SF, and all through out the South Bay!

There, now that I have your attention,

Why the hell would you want to see Bill Leeb on a Tuesday night, anyway? It's not like the last, umpteen FLA albums have been any good, and you're only going because that chick or guy you know from *such-and-such* a place is dragging you along and you don't have enough guts to say "no, they suck."

Christ... don't tell me you're *really* going because you were one of those lame-ass people who didn't actually buy tickets ahead of time for Ministry and now you're trying to make it up to your better-half by going to see FLA? Now that's just wrong. It's like some sort of fucked-up transference in an abusive relationship. Most healthy people seek mental help for such a thing.

Of course, you didn't go to see anybody talented in SF, like Mentallo and the Fixer... no... you had to wait until a Tuesday night when there's a good club going on to see a band who's last ten years of releases won't make it into your personal, Winamp™ playlist rotation.

Shame on you!

Ladies and Gentlemen, one ray of hope truly exists if you're in the Bay Area next Tuesday night... yes... you know exactly what I mean. So go and enjoy good music by people who aren't washed-up rivetheads trying to be hardcore while dumbing down their music just like damn-near, every-other classic act with a new release in the past 4 years.

Ryan... now THAT is the type of thing you need to send-out when every month people book an act over your event.

SATORI open until 2am? Maybe!

One of the biggest problems with doing a club in the Santa Clara/San Jose area is the cops! They sure love making sure everything is shut down by 2am. Because of this, we've had to close Satori at 1:30am to make sure the bar was shut down by 2am.

HOWEVER!

I just got off the phone with the owner of the club, and she let me know that if enough people show up (and enough people are drinking), they can close off the bar as a "private party" and we can stay open until 2am, or maybe even a bit later!

We will be announcing drink specials very soon, as well as a guestlist, so please keep an eye out! Thanks, and see you all next Tues!

From time to time, we like to get more personal feedback from people that come to Satori, so if you've got any comments, suggestions, or general praise, *please* let us know! Did we play too much 80s for you? Too much EBM (I swear, if I type "EMB" again, I'll cut my hands off)? Why didn't we play that awesome song by that killer band? Let us know! You know what was really extraordinary about this month's club? I mean, besides the usual great music in both rooms, really good drink specials, great peeps and an all-around good time?

There were club promoters represented from most of the other incredible South Bay and Santa Cruz clubs. Defiance (Dante), Wasteland (Steve), Fate & The Box (Gobo), Factory 33 (DJ Forced Hand) plus too many DJ's and cross-clubbin' phreaks to count. I met people from SF and even further who drove down just to come out for Satori! As usual... This is something really special, folks, in case you hadn't noticed...

SATORI is expanding to TWO ROOMS in January!

We're proud to introduce DJs In Flux and Arkmay, who will be spinning EBM and industrial in the newly opened side room. It's swanky! There's couches! It's spooky! DJ Vitus (that's me!) will continue to spin Gothic, Deathrock and New Wave in the main room.

Best, Satori is FREE when you bring a flyer! You'll be able to find them at many local goth clubs, Streetlight, Rasputin, and some other random places around the Bay Area. Without a flyer, it's only $4. We're also going to have drink specials from 10-11pm, which will be announced shortly.

Next week, I'll be finding out if DJ Basura (Atomik @ The Blank Club) can dj in the side room during Satori. He's looking to play a bunch of good crossover stuff, some 80s, lots of electroclash and dancy stuff. I'm hoping he'll be able to bring a *huge* crowd with him.

If he's not able to, our own DJ Kev is going to grab a friend of his who used to dj at Panic! in SJ, and they're gonna turn the side room into a britpop/indie/electroclash room!

Either way, I'm hoping to attract a few more people out to Satori, and maybe a few of them won't mind my spooky stuff.

If *anyone* has any suggestions for songs to play, please let me know! I'm always looking for requests.
