WOW! SOMETHING totally rocked on Friday night! I was a little worried that people wouldn’t be able to find the place, but boy they sure did. I had picked out a number of attendees that I was going to be happy with for the whole night, and we had more than that many people before 10pm (maybe because it was free before 10?). Cool! My only complaint was that people didn’t start dancing until about 11pm. It was like a high school dance where everyone stands around until one brave couple starts dancing and then everyone joins in. Same thing Friday night, but once they got started the whole bar was dancing.
Here’s a quote from an email that Tomas sent me the next day-
"We had much fun, although it was WAY too crowded from about 10:30 to midnight."
Indeed, by midnight the place was packed. And speaking of the place, I give Retox two thumbs up. It’s just the right size and comfy cozy and in the middle of nowhere so there aren’t any noise problems. That means they can leave the doors open for a nice airflow and not have to worry about the neighbors complaining. That was great because there’s a door right behind the DJ area so it was cool all night. They serve strong drinks and you get them fast too, if you know what I mean. I had a great time. I can’t remember when I’ve danced so much.
What was the only bad thing that happened? The Melting Girl totally melted. She was way too sick to spin, but promises to make it up to everyone at the next SOMETHING. And when, you’re probably asking yourself, is the next SOMETHING? Why, it is Friday the 13th of April, of course! Maybe you’ll get lucky at SOMETHING!

Re: Did you hear SOMETHING? Set lists from event #1
Mon, April 2, 2007 - 7:52 AMMad props to argyle sweatervest girl. She deserves some credit for making SOMETHING such a memorable evening - she was the first one to start dancing, and her infectious energy got other people to start.
At around 11, Skip asked me "So what's it going to take for people to start dancing?" Now we know the answer: sweatervest girl. -

Re: Did you hear SOMETHING? Set lists from event #1
Mon, April 2, 2007 - 8:12 AMCan you get them to remove the wooden stage that took up most of the room? It would also help if you moved smelly guy away from the dancing area.
Other than that, good opening night. Best wishes to Melting Girl for a speedy recovery. I was sick too so I hope I didn't infect anyone. -

Tue, April 3, 2007 - 7:41 AM>>Michael Jackson – Wanna Be Startin' SOMETHING<<
OMG, you really led off with it!
Well, of course I want to say how nice it was to meet so many more of you Tribe members, at SOMETHING! That was very cool.
I did have a great time, even though I recognized less than half of the songs played. So between not liking to dance to songs I don't know AND the fact that no one even started dancing till later in the night, I was really itching to dance (especially since dancing had not yet begun when the fabulous "Controversy" was played) and had the BEST time gettin' down to "Boys & Girls"!
It was too bad about that itty bitty dance floor, though. My joke of the night was that even though there were only 5 people dancing, it was hella crowded.
But Skip, you were right when you said that if I came to the event I might learn something about newer music. My friend Tim and I were intrigued by several of the songs you played and are intent on investigating further. -

Tue, April 3, 2007 - 9:00 AMThe cookies were made by Mrs. Diablo. They were scrumptious!
And as for the gal in the baseball cap, I know you liked here P'lito. You couldn't stop talking about her. And she knew the songs, she was hip. -

Wed, April 4, 2007 - 7:37 AMDamn you, Donimo.
I remember really enjoying the last song you played, so when the setlist was published, I looked for info on Pete Burns. ACK! He's the duck-faced singer from Dead or Alive! Damnit! Now I have to trick you into enjoying A-Ha. -
