Hard -shifting F-150... ideas?

topic posted Sat, July 12, 2008 - 8:55 AM by  Briggi
My vehicle is a 1992 Ford F-150, 4.9L engine, 5-speed manual transmission. Problem is when the engine is cold, shifting out of neutral is all but impossible. It takes warming up before difficult hard armpower shifting is possible, and then 15 minutes of driving before shifing becomes normal. This condition is definitely temperature -related. On most summer days you hardly notice it, for example.

A mechanic had me change out the transmission fluid for synthetic ATF but this hasn't made a difference.

How do you explain this shifting problem? Ideas? Fixes? Advice?

Thanks

    Briggi-

This tribe is for Master Clutchmen. We NEVER have shifting problems. We OWN the clutch. You must OWN the clutch. If you cannot OWN the clutch, we can be of no help to you.

Don't take it so personally, Briggi. This is still an open forum. We just like to talk shit........ I hope you find an answer to your problem. There are actual auto advice tribes out there. You just need to find 'em.
