New Dates for Glenn Brogan ~ Beyond Pairadice Studio~ Las Vegas

Those of you who already have your appointment for a fabulous photo shoot with Glenn have so much to look forward to in August! Those of you who are wishing they had another opportunity...., well, here it is! Glenn will be in Alaska August 21, 2008 through August 30, 2008. Anticipated photo shoots will be in Anchorage, Seward, Girdwood, and tentatively, Fairbanks and Denali National Park. Glenn is the photographer for the book, "Desert Rakkasah" and the 2008 Desret Dancers Belly Dance Calendar. He has photoed Britt and Marisa of LasVegas as well as Aradia, Amira and countless other dancers. Please feel free to check out the photos under my profile for examples of his work as well as his tribe site Beyond Pairadice Studio. Single dancer shots, troupe photos, family portraits or portfolio updates are just a few of the options for you to choose. Also, for those of you who will have young men and women graduating this year, it is an excellent opportunity for Senior Pictures, different from the other students. I am hoping to use some of the botanical gardens, seascapes and Alaska's beautiful mountain scenery for back drops. Remember: The photos Glenn will take, will be delivered on computer disc, and you will have full copyright to your photos. For further information, please contact me through tribe or personal mail. Also, you may have seen some of the flyers around the area and I would love to drop some off some to instructors who would distribute them. I will attach a photo of the poster with this post for reference. Ladies, all I can say...those photos of me were taken after a hike in 109 degree heat to a small cove at Lake Mead. I drank all of Jody's gatorade and almost passed out twice. You could never tell the buzzards were circling from the pictures. Last chance until 2010...reservations are limited!!

I'm amazed at how excited everyone has been to come study with Mira Betz in Fairbanks. Because of the response, the workshop is almost completely sold out. I don't want to squeeze too many people in the dance studio!

If you have not yet paid for the workshop, please let me know. I know some people asked to pay at the event, but there are other dancers that have not yet contacted me. I know they're coming up and have UAF housing reservations (and lunch requests). So, if you are planning on coming up but have not yet paid, PLEASE CONTACT ME. I'll gladly hold your spot and you can pay at the door, but if I don't hear from you, I may close registration soon, leaving you out in the proverbial cold.

Introduction of Amy Tucker

I am so pleased to announce, after a long wait and many tribe posts, Amy Tucker is all moved in and dancing with Sacred Dance Company. Amy has been teaching in a remote village and was assigned to Palmer Middle School, right across from our studio. Amy is an amazing young woman who brings to our troupe and to the dance community, a very strong background in ATS, Gypsy Caravan, Urban Tribal, Tribal Fusion, and Cabaret. She has taught classes in the above mentioned, worked as a team in her studio with other forms of dance, including Flamenco and has been the director of her own troupe in Florida. Her knowledge is amazing and brings to us, a new venue for Tribal Belly Dance. She is an absolute delight filled with passion for dance, willingness to teach and be taught, as well as embrace us as her new sister family. Amy is the mother of four children and is in the process of adopting a new baby from China. What else can I tell you? She was wearing a hip scarf today, that might come up missing!!

As we danced today, I could not help but be grateful for such a beautiful spirit among us. We are so excited to welcome her into our troupe and dance community and thrilled to have the opportunity to learn so many new aspects of Tribal. This is going to be a great adventure!!

Glenn Brogan~ Beyond Pairadice Studio~Las Vegas, Nevada~Last call for photo shoot!!!

Just a reminder that Glenn Brogan will be in Alaska June 21-22nd through June 28th, and is offering photo shoots for Dancers, Troupes and Family. You can see his fabulous photography through Beyond Pairadice in Tribe as well as in several personal profiles, including mine. Glenn is offering , for dancers, a sitting fee of $300.00 for two and with each additional person, the increase will be $50. This includes a high definition CD of all your photos, as well as all the copyright use for those photos. If there are several of you who only want a single sitting for just one person, I will try to arrange the shoot to accomodate those people, so that the price will remain fair for all. Glenn is offering a family shoot for $300 which will include all the photos as well as copyright use.

Some of the questions asked at the first posting:
Change of Costume: Absolutely! More than one?...we would need to assure the costume changes were on a time frame, but please email me so that I know what to schedule.
What is included in troupe photos: Photos of the troupe as well as individual photos of each person in the troupe.
Can a troupe use the family shoot: No. I know we are all "family", but a family shoot is designed and completed within a certain time frame. Troupe photos are taken over a longer period of time and have many more photo opportunities.
Where is Glenn going to be: Tentatively, he will be in the Anchorage/Girdwood/Seward area and possibly Fairbanks, if there is interest. He will also be taking photographs of our beautiful state while he is here and enjoying the scenery.
Where will the photos be taken: That depends on what type of photographs, outdoor, studio, near a waterfall, or if you have a special area in mind that does not take him to far from his other photo shoots. I am open to suggestions or in the event that your troupe has an idea, we will work with you to make this a fabulous event.

IMPORTANT: Please let me know, as soon as possible, if you and or your family or troupe is interested. Those that have already contacted me...Please contact me again so that we can confirm your shoot and go over the particulars. Deadline for appointments for photo shoots is May 7, 2008. Thanks Ladies!!!
Respectfully request where applicable, credit is given to Glenn for the photograph

This would be a wonderful opportunity to get troupe, duet, family, professional photos at a phenominal price by one of the finest photographers around. Glenn will also be taking photographs of the wonderland we call home along the way. Both Jody and I had a great time on our photo shoot at Lake Mead this year. As a personal note: I have not counted how many photographs I received from Glenn on my disc, but 80 of them are the same quality as the ones posted on my tribe page.

Bellydance Bizarre - First Friday Nov. 2

Don't miss Bellydance Bizarre this Friday - one of the strangest performances this year (and that's saying a lot for Cold Fusion Tribal Dance)!

Cold Fusion Tribal Dance is teaming up with the Discovery Lab at the Arctic Region Supercomputing Center for a demonstration of DAVE2 (Digital Audio in a Virtual Environment). DAVE2 is a computer program that tracks a person's movements to create sound. In essence, the movement of the dancers creates the music that they dance to. This is something you'll have to see to understand! The dancers have worked with the computer for several weeks to create a series of movements that the computer can track, and to experiment with the sounds the computer can create. The result? ATS-inspired movements combined with electronic sounds - a performance like no other!

Cold Fusion Tribal Dance will be taking the stage (such as it is) at 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 for demonstrations of the program. The Discovery Lab is located in the Rasmuson Library at UAF. Follow the signs along Tanana Loop to the rear loading docks of the library to access the Discovery Lab.

Bellydance Bizarre - The video

We got some video from our First Friday performance. The lighting couldn't be adjusted because the computer lab had to be dark, and we had to dance in front of a green screen. Bah! But the important thing is that we just did the uber-geekiest performance yet!

Save The Date – Mira Betz workshops in June 2008

Make room in your calendars – this summer the one and only Mira Betz will be making her very first trip to Alaska to teach workshops in sunny Fairbanks. Mira is well-known throughout the Middle Eastern dance community for her gooey slow movements, impeccable timing and technique, and knowledge of traditional Moroccan folk dances. She’s a well-kept secret in the San Francisco Bay area, but the word is getting out. Sharon Kihara sang Mira’s praises at 3rd Coast 2007, and when Heather Stants was asked to recommend a dancer to study with, she pointed to Mira. Cold Fusion Tribal Dance is proud to help Mira make her northern debut.

Still not sure about Mira’s dance prowess? Check out these YouTube clips for some visual proof!
Mira will be teaching for 8 glorious hours on June 28 and 29. She’ll also be taking the stage in a special showcase on June 27. Workshop descriptions and showcase theme are in the works – stay tuned for more details.

Cold Fusion Tribal Dance is working to find inexpensive accommodations for out-of-town dancers during the workshops. If you may be interested in attending the workshops, please contact Mary Haley.

Earthquakes and Hipshakes

Dear Dancers
To those of you who haven't heard, Anchorage's next bellydance workshop "Earthquakes and Hipshakes" (Hum...What do you think about that?;-) will be held in November. For those of you who have been waiting patiently for me to formally announce the Earthquakes and Hipshakes workshop....Thank You!
The workshop is scheduled for November 10th and 11th and will be held at the Alaska Club Midtown from 11am to 4pm, Saturday and from 1:30pm to 7pm, Sunday.
Our guest instructor for this event is Isidora Bushkovski. Isidora is one of featured dancers in the production of Temptation of BellyDance, filmed at the historical Oriental Center in Denver, Colorado. For more information about her you can go on her web-site http://www.izzydancer.com/ (Or just read it in the flyer, that I have available upon request;-) Also you can see Izzy's performances on www.youtube.com , keywords "Isidora Bushkovski"
The cost for the workshop entry has an Early Bird special of $150 for two days and that price will be available until November 1st!! After the 1st, prices will be $ 90 for a one day attendance or $180 for two days.
Topics of the workshop on Saturday:
Sword - covers balancing the sword on various parts of the body, correct posture, general moves and big tricks
Note: it is not necessary to have a fancy sword. Students are encouraged to bring extra swords to workshop for group practice and even the scabbards are helpful for getting the feel of balance and choreography. If you would like to purchase your own sword prior to the workshop, you can contact Michelle at Alaska Dancer Emporium.
Isidora's Belly Dance shimmy bootcamp - which includes 3 different versions of the shimmy drills: basic shimmy drills, shimmy drills with zills for intermediate and the drill with layered shimmies and zills);-),
Topics of the workshop on Sunday:
Cane Choreography - introduction to the methods for holding and controlling the cane as well as dance choreography with the cane.
Note: Slender canes are easier to twirl. And if time permits and we will move quickly through this to allow Isidora the chance to share other topics that she can offer workshop students...so whatever, guys you will choose to learn;-)
Payment for the workshop can be made through Paypal. The account is under cana25mod@yahoo.com. You can also pay by cash or check made out to Aksana Danilava-Smith.
I am also proud to announce there will be a performance night on Saturday the 10th starting at 7:30pm and being held at the Alaska Wildberry Theatre.
Isadora, "Izzy" will be performing and would love to see a large Alaskan turnout for the show!!
This is it so far...I am sure I forgot something;-) but this is a start
