A: Although these items are paper, they should be placed in the garbage. Often times these items are soiled with food or other contaminants. Many paper products have a thin plastic lining to give strength to the product and prevent leaking. This plastic lining is consider a contaminant in the pulping process. Please throw paper plates, napkins, and cups in the garbage.
I totally didn't even know this. :( sucks about the pizza boxes.

Re: Q: What do I do with slightly used paper plates, cups, napkins and food containers?
Thu, May 22, 2008 - 10:19 PMHm. You can also
Put them under the cat food bowl ( theyre sloppy eaters)
Put them under growing melons, cukes, squash and pumpkins to prevent scarring and yellowing

Fri, May 23, 2008 - 6:48 PMI wonder how you can tell if there is a plastic lining or not. Everything I read says that paper plates, cereal/cracker boxes, and pizza boxes can be composted (including local waste management). Is this not true? -

Wed, August 6, 2008 - 3:26 AMRip them, then look closely at the rip; you'll be able to see if there's a layer of plastic. Lots of paper plates _are_ just paper, or paper and wax (like a milk carton) - totally compostable. Ditto for pizza boxes, they're just cardboard.
