Natalie and Ashley workshops in Columbia, August 2nd

We are happy to announce that we will be teaching a workshop day in the Columbia area on Saturday, August 2nd. We'll be at our old faithful location, the Center for Dance Education in the basement of the Old Mill, 711 E. Main St., Lexington, SC.

We'd like to continue our tradition of skipping the choreographies and going straight for hardcore technique and tools for you to use in your own fashion.

12 PM to 2 PM: Per popular request, Natalie will be teaching layering technique. We'll talk about the popular shimmy layers of course, but there's a whole host of other stuff we can layer in both the fast and slow vocabularies.

2:30 PM to 4:30 PM: Ashley is our go-to girl for smooth and gooey tribal fusion combos. She'll be giving advice on how to construct tribal "sentences," long streams of standard moves, cut, spliced and smooshed together that are perfect for solo work.

Workshops are $30 each (we understand the economy is crashing around our ears, so we're trying to keep it reasonable). If you would like to use your credit card, you can paypal to natalie_c_brown@yahoo.com. Make sure you specify which workshops you're purchasing in the notes, or send a followup email. You can also pay at the door.

And of course, we'll be throwing one of our infamous houseparty haflas of doom that evening. More details coming.

We've been invited to dance at TribalCon...

I was sitting in front of a space heater, surfin' youtube for inspiration for our new performance project: bellydance, hooping and tons and tons of FIRE....
Natalie came in to work and asked if I had checked my email.
"nuh uh. What is it?"
"Well, Ziah asked me for both of our email addresses and I gave them to her. She promptly sent us both an email that I think you should read."
"What is it?!?"
"She needed some more acts for the the TribalCon show and has asked us to come out"

I cried.

'coz I'm like that.

So Natalie, myself and as many of the Delirium/Cirque Project members (that we can wrangle) will be performing at one of the biggest Tribal Bellydance conferences in the nation and we are jumping out of our striped socks. Just thought I'd share.

AND.....

I was at the conference last year and it was AMAZING. The BEST teachers and the BEST vending you'll ever see. TribalCon is an event not to be missed and registration is OPEN. So check it out and try to get on the "Early Bird" special - it's a steal.

Southern Oasis Workshops!

Alchemy proudly presents….
Southern Oasis 2008 Workshops!

Saturday, March 8

Denys Proteau: At Southern Oasis 2008 Denys will run a general introductory hand drumming class. Participants may
also bring other percussion instruments such as tambourine, clave, zills, wooden spoons, etc. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring audio recording gadgets such as tape recorders, mp3 recorders, dictating recorders, or waxed cylinder recorders. Printed handouts will be available. We'll play a variety of listening and rhythm learning games, as well learn and practice new rhythms. Denys will offer his workshop on Saturday, March 8th from 10AM-12noon. Location: Joanie Lamb Hair Salon 720 Broad St Augusta, GA

Darbuka Dave: The Basics of Working With Dancers - We will cover the universal ways of communicating with dancers, useful for both choreographed and improvised performance. The class is suitable for all students who have at least a basic knowledge of technique, and beginners should expect to be challenged by the quick pace of the class. Dave will offer his workshop on Saturday, March 8th from 1230PM-230PM. Location: Joanie Lamb Hair Salon 720 Broad St Augusta, GA

Natalie Brown: Delirium Tribal improv combos. Move, trade places, turn, pose with Delirium Tribal's signature improvisational moves. Use in choreographies or your own brand of tribal improv. Natalie will offer her workshop on Saturday, March 8th from 10AM-12noon. Location: Augusta Fencing Club 134 9th St GA

Ashley Bennett: This workshop will be focused, primarily, on stage presence and fluid motion - with a concentration on arm and hand movements. A certified yoga instructor, Ashley typically begins and ends each workshop with enough yoga to warm up the body to support flexibility, and then slow it down again to prevent aching and soreness for the "morning after." Ashley will offer her workshop on Saturday, March 8th from 1230PM-230PM. Location: Augusta Fencing Club 134 9th St Augusta, GA.

Alchemy: In this workshop, the emphasis will be on floorwork: toning and building the muscles necessary for safe, strong, and controlled floorwork, introducing new movement to your repertoire, and learning how to incorporate floorwork into improvisational performances for the solo or group dynamic. We will also cover the "no-nos", what to consider to keep your floorwork from devolving into a peep show, and how to comport yourself to best display your strength and mastery to the audience. All of this will be presented in the same lighthearted, safe, accepting atmosphere Alchemy is known for in its classes. So, come prepared for a workout, great information, but most of all come with questions and a smile! All levels welcome! Please bring knees pads or a yoga mat. Alchemy will offer their workshop on Saturday, March 8th from 230PM-430PM. Location: Augusta Fencing Club 134 9th St Augusta, GA

Sunday March 9
Ashwathy Nair and Michael Bartenfeld: Members of the UGA Bhangra Team, Bulldawg da Raaj, they will be teaching their signature style. They will be offering their workshop on Sunday, March 9th from 10AM-12noon. Location: Augusta Fencing Club 134 9th St Augusta, GA

Lauren Prince: African Dance Workshop-Come and take part in this foot-tapping, arm-swinging, hair flying workshop! This African Dance workshop will surely move your feet and make you sweat! Many of the dances are from West Africa and therefore has very fast and energetic beats. This workshop will teach the basics of West African dance but it will definitely give a good and high-energy workout. Following the teaching of the basics, will be choreography. The choreography consists of dance moves that are warrior moves and moves to welcome in peace, fertility, and happiness. Be prepared to let yourself go! Experience the high-energy and fast rhythms that'll make you want to go to the motherland. Lauren will offer her workshop on Sunday, March 91 from 1230PM-230PM. Location: Augusta Fencing Club 134 9th St Augusta, GA

Barbara Shine: The basics of international folk dancing will be taught along with some energetic and fun dances from Israel, Greece, Bulgaria and Romania and will include a variety of tempo and style. The dances taught will be those very well known by most international groups in the US. Bring clean, soft-soled shoes with support (recommended) for this lively session.
My classes are returning, plus I quit my job.

Hello, everyone:

Classes will resume tomorrow, January 30th, at 7:00 PM in the LEXINGTON STUDIO. I know I told some of you 7:30 in the Vista, but as always, we're gerri-rigging in the face of some disaster or other. The Vista CMFA suffered an electrical fire last week after SCE&G changed over to a digital meter. There's no structural damage, but the electrical system is shot in most of the building and limping in the rest. John Whitehead is telling me the expected fix time is April, though we all hope we can go home sooner. So until then, for the sake of consistency, we'll be in the Lexington studio, 711 E. Main St., in the basement of the Old Mill. If anyone needs to carpool from the downtown side, we'll leave from my house in Olympia at 6:30. Please email me for directions to my new house, as we've moved and are no longer in the Duplex of Doom.

Class format is changing a bit. I'll be teaching one class for now (opening others as demand requires), in themed sessions of 6 to 8 weeks. We'll be working more in depth and covering both a basic and intermediate level topics (don't panic, everyone is welcome, including beginners), like moves and their variations, circle ups, cues, leading and following, etc. I'm also going to be switching back and forth between American Tribal Style and Tribal Fusion topics, matching the diversity we're now following in Delirium Tribal since we went all cooperative.

For the first 8 weeks, we're going to be working on arabic and arabic hip twist. Anybody who's taken the intermediate class on arabic before knows that there are a gazillion variations to keep us busy for 8 weeks. This should give everyone a good foundation on technique, musculature, arms, how ATS improv works and how to really dig down on a personal level to teach your body how to do things. Sound good? Good.

My pricing system may change soon when I get the details ironed out. For now, we'll stay at a $10 drop in rate, and I will continue honoring class cards that are floating around out there. In future, I would expect the drop in rate to increase, there will be a discounted rate for buying each session. There's a rumor that Ashley and I may honor each others class cards in future, but let us work out the details.

On a personal level, I put in my notice at work last week. With the circus, the museum show, MTV, Tribalcon and Southern Oasis all taking place in the span of about 10 weeks, it suddenly became very obvious to me that I was spending too much time and mental stress on my day job when I should be focusing and pushing my career. We have way too much awesome stuff in the works for me to be squeezing director duties in at 5:00 in the morning. Work is being very excellent about this, and though my official last day is February 8th, I'll be temping at my own job off and on through the end of the month to help them transition. In the meantime, this means I will be relying on teaching and performance income to pay bills. If anyone wants private lessons, traveling classes in the southeast or to host me and/or Delirium in a workshop, now would be an excellent time to email me.

Cheers and best wishes, and I CAN'T WAIT to start teaching again. It makes my heart and head and body happy and it's been far too long. Any questions, please email me.

nat

Tribal Musings of Natalie Brown. Good Read...

Welcome to the return of Tribal Musings. I know the email list has been quiet the last few months, but by no means has Delirium Tribal been dormant. First, a heartfelt thank you to everyone for the good wishes and thoughts for my dad. Mom and dad have been in Baltimore while dad gets chemo at Johns Hopkins. While there is no cure for dad's cancer, we have some hopeful signs that the chemo treatment has slowed its advance, and it may even be retreating a bit. Keep good thoughts heading Charlie Brown's way.

Columbia Alternacirque

Secondly, Delirium Tribal had a reformatting of sorts about six weeks ago. We're branching out into solo work and tribal fusion on top of our ATS roots, and we've added special guest artist Ashley Bennett to our company permanently.

On top of our reorganization, we decided to move forward with an idea we've been kicking around for months: collaborating with other alternative artists in the Columbia area and forming a collective circus to share performances, information and support. We are proud to announce the creation of Columbia Alternacirque, an umbrella performance organization conjuring up the days of vaudeville and vintage circus, consisting of Delirium Tribal, fire performer Steve Oswanski and his fledgeling troupe Fire and Motion, and Irmo hula-hoop trickster Susan Osbaldiston. We're talking with some other alternative artists in the area that will be loosely associated with Alternacirque, and we've got some wild shows and projects in the works for the fall/winter season.

This Friday's show at the Art Bar will be our maiden voyage. Delirium Tribal and Steve from Fire and Motion are moving the show outside to the Art Bar patio so you can get the full spectum of what Steve can do with flaming instruments. We'll pull three integrated sets out from 9 to 11 PM. No cover, the bar is 21+, but the sidewalk is presumably public. I saw a preview of Steve's fire-eating, poi-spinning performance last night in my front yard, and it's off the chain. Friday can NOT get here fast enough.

Upcoming Shows

Columbia Alternacirque will be performing at the Five Points Celebration Festival Friday, October 5th, from 7 to 10 on Harden Street. We'll have the full contingent of Delirium Tribal as well as the full Fire and Motion fire performance troupe.

Columbia Alternacirque will have a fabulous show for Art Bar's Halloween weekend. Hulahooper Susan Osbaldiston will make her debut and join Steve from Fire and Motion and Delirium Tribal on Friday, October 26th. Rumor has it our dear friend Shannon from Indudala Tribe in New Orleans will make a special guest appearance.

Columbia Alternacirque will be performing at the Main Street festival on Thursday, November 8th from 6 to 8 PM. More details on exact location as they come.

Delirium Tribal will be collaborating with Colin Brown and USC percussion Tuesday, November 20th, starting at 7:30 PM in the USC school of music recital hall. Buzz about this gig is in the stratosphere already, and we expect very packed standing room only, so plan ahead and get in line early for this one.

We have several other shows in the works, and I will be happy to announce them as they get finalized.

Classes

I am firming up the return of my classes and am shooting for early to mid October. I'll let you know the exact date once I have an exact day/location/pricing system, but be prepared for an hour class on Wednesday nights. I am planning on a format change to match Delirium's format change, and I'm going to do 6-8 week sessions on specific topics, with two weeks off inbetween. Some will be ATS, some will be Tribal Fusion, and we'll spend time going in depth on subjects like shimmies, the arabic, snakey movements, etc. This way everyone gets exposed to a variety of topics, instead of having the same classes over and over again, and we can cover more information on each subject.

Ashley Bennett has started Tribal Fusion classes on Tuesdays at 7 PM at the Yoga and Wellness studio on Devine Street. If you're interested in taking her classes, you can contact her at madashley1640@hotmail.com for more information.

Speaking of Ashley, she and I are plotting our next workshop weekend, tentatively scheduled for Saturday, November 10th. Hafla of Doom to follow that evening, of course. Save the date.

Thanks as always for the support and patronage. We can't wait to show you all the craziness we've been working on. See you FRIDAY.

I was talking to Jill (the fitness center director and interim executive director of the Y) at a cookout she had for us last night, and I told her about how Dan didn't want me bellydancing at the Y, and she said that she didn't care if I bellydanced there. Yay!

Now I'm gonna go practice in the aerobics room before I go to work at 2. :-D

Ok.... every morning, I throw some clothes on, grab my keys and run past a set of bongos sitting in the livingroom. Granted, we've got all sorts of musical things floating through the livingroom at some point or another. THESE ARE NOT MY BONGOS!! They're pretty nice, LP: Aspire drums and they are under my coffee table. If you are missing your bongos... give me a shout and I will get them back to you as soon as I can. I mean... they look nice in our house, but I don't believe Natalie or I are very good at playing them.

I want to send a special, special thank you to Natalie and Ashley for hosting us this weekend for the solo workshop and hafla. We had such a great time! I'm still sore from the workshop and haven't quite caught up on my sleep yet, both of which are gooood indicators that it was a great weekend! I'm so glad we decided to stay for the hafla.......I think we all needed to blow off a little steam. The dancing and the music were great. It's so nice to be able to dance to live music. We don't have too many drummers here in Augusta (although we're working on that!). Thanks again for making Saturday special. We'd love to do it again sometime.

For those of you coming to the party after the workshop in Columbia on Saturday, July 14:

I would like to get an idea of who is wanting to perform.

and

An idea of who wants to spend the night (also, if anyone needs to spend the previous night in order to be at the workshop in time).

By no means, is this an official-organized-or-professional performance - Natalie and I are just trying to work out in any space/time issues that may arise. I'll be posting this in a couple of our regional tribes.

"Old Lexington Mill"
711 Main St
Lexington, SC 2902

^ that is the address for those of you MapQuest-ing for the trip. Those of you who were lucky enough to make it out to Ms. Bastet's fan workshop got to see how cool the studios are - and that's where we will be hosting this soloists workshop. Fun!

If you also want to mapquest Nat's and my address, just send one of us a private message and we'll be happy to fill you in. Also, if you're planning on performing at the Duplex of Doom throwdown (or just spend the night) let us know and we will be happy to accomodate.

The workshop is:

- On July 14th (Saturday)

-1pm-4pm (yus, I get to ramble and play my favorite music and make you sweat for THREE hours!)

- The cost is $40 and you can just pay at the door (If you need/want to pay by credit card, give Natalie a shout and she'll take care of you).

Thank you to all who are on board. This is going to be a killer workshop and I'm itching to get this party started.

doing the "out of the box" workshop on Saturday, July 14th??? If there are too many people who can't make it, maybe we can fanangle something else.

Also... Most of us know that this particular workshop is to help with soloing....I've been thinking more about subject matter covered. I'm afraid it'll turn into more of a seminar. In a two hour workshop, I'm going to try to squish in:

*yoga (duh - I like da yoga)
*delicious drills (yum)
*stage presence (which is what Delirium will be covering in their advanced workshops this month - thank you, Natty)
*traveling (I'm a closet-cabaret-choo-choo-shimmy fan.... also really into gawazee - did I spel that right?)
*gettin' into it (I'll try to work this into a practice without embarassing myself!)
*combos (there are a few that I've strung together for various performances - combos are always nice)

*also... if anyone is really interested in learning how to construct and really fitful (couldn't think of a better word) drum solo, I think I got some good stuff for ya..

uh. Now that I'm looking at everything, this will probably either have to be cut down or stretched into a three-hour shindig.

That's all I've got so far. If anyone else can think of stuff they think I can help them with, let me know. If I don't know, I'll ask Natty and will hopefully have it figured out by then. Hahaha!!

I don't know how much Delirium-hosted-two-hour-workshops cost.... Natalie can get with us about that, and also confirm the date.

Again, I ask if anyone really wants to make the workshop, but the 14th is no good, let us know and I'll see what I can do.

I'm really sorry to rattle on like this, but Natalie and I have really gotten into the whole after-event-house-party-throwdown thing, If you're interested in performing at a mini-hafla, our "Duplex of Doom" is well-equipped. And if anyone needs to camp for the night, we've probably got room for you, too.

This'll be FUN!

Just thought I'd give a heads up for June. The date is not set, but I will be teaching a workshop for Delirium Tribal called "Out of the Box." Haven't got the lesson plan down yet - but it's supposed to aid in solo work. If you're interested, I'd like to hear from you about what you want out of the soloist workshop from me. So far, i think we will review stage presence and various little combos to add to you bag of tricks. So... fess up - what'll it be?

Also, this Saturday, remember we've got Bastet up for a workshop - hosted by Delirium's mama, Natalie Brown. That night, Nat and I will be hostessing a sort of hafla/throwdown at the Bellydance Duplex of DOOM! (aka our house). Foods, Drinks - whatever goes. Kids are welcome. Nat and I have some stuff to lay out for ya and Bastet will be gracing us with some solo work (that I'm dying to see again). So please PM one of us for more contact info and for our address - we'd love to see everyone.

I believe my little hiatus from bellydance is coming to an end. A few weeks ago, my practice dwindled off, I didn't really get on tribe very much, and I haven't done any costuming. It made me sad to watch it go away. In the mean time, my yoga practice has blossomed... into a lifestyle choice of conscious living. I have been studying the eightfold path of Raja/Ashtanga Yoga laid out by Patanjali in The Yoga Sutras. I was on Sapelo Island on a 3-day college trip not long ago, and one day I walked to the beach, sat down, buried my feet in the sand to encourage pratyahara (sensory withdrawal), and meditated with my head on my knees for a long time. It was very grounding.

I miss bellydance.

I'm ready to come back... better than before. I want it to be a very natural experience this time, interconnected with my asana and pranayama practice. Instead of laying out lists of drills and performing "this move" x amount of times, I just want it to flow. Natural and beautiful, earthy and sensual.

I need to reconnect with my fellow bellydancers.

I am changing this tribe to the Carolina Cirque Project in an effort to open it up to the CSRA, South Carolina and North Carolina areas. Natalie Brown and I are in the beginning stages of conceptualizing a sort of collective of beautiful freakies from the area that are open to collaborating for circus-y variety shows. Please post questions, suggestions and news here.

Ok, it has come to my attention that there is still someone claiming that i am a drug addict so dont go near me for bellydance lessons. I am sick of being nice about it and letting it go. YOu will NOT run over me anymore ASHLEY BENNETT! that's right i called her out publically. I am not afraid to type names because now its real. I have never, not one time, said anything negative to anyone about Ashley. Yet, i just recieved an email from someone-and you know what i will copy and paste it on here so you can read it. I am sick of this trashing of Katie. I have done nothing to you Ashley. Stop trying to ruin me.

This is my original message to the said girl:

hey girl, havent heard from ya in a while. You still interested in bellydance? i've got lots of things going on that you can join in on!

This was her reply:

Yes I am. I would love to get involved. Give me all your details. I haven't attempted anything because I just took my trainer test last weekend and you said Katie is into drugs again so I have avoided going there. Just let me know. If you'd like to reach me other than email my number is (i deleted this to protect the girl). I work til five everyday but just leave a message and I'll get back with. Thank you sooo much!!!

SO she obviously thought the mail was going to ashley bennett, well, it went to me. SO STOP TALKING ABOUT ME BEHIND MY BACK AND ON THE INTERNET!!!!!!!! I can succeed in bellydance without you ashley bennett.

I am a bellydancer for the passion of the dance. I have been a dancer since i was 3 years old. I took classical ballet for 10 years along with jazz and tap. Now, i am a bellydancer. And if i dont make it to the "BELLYDANCE SUPERSTARS" it doesnt mean im not good. And it doesnt mean i havent had success. The difference between you and me is this: You need to be known as a bellydancer by people in order to keep your interest in it. If all you had was yourself, you wouldnt keep up with it. So, stop what your doing to me. YOu have done enough damage to my heart to last a lifetime.

I think i have vented enough for now. my only hope is that someone gets to read this before ashley deletes cuz it might make her "look bad".

If you have an opinion on the situation, then voice it. There is nothing that anyone can say now that will hurt me more than she already has. So let me have your worst.

with our performance after the Bastet workshop, here in Columbia. Natalie and I have taken a local performer, "The Dubber", up on an offer to perform at a place called The Red Tub. It's low key, but the vibe it amazing. Nat? Are you there? Can you think of anything else to add?
Oh... here's a vital tid-bit... that performance is in one week. That is, next Saturday.... the... 21st? Please bear with me. It's 5AM. I just got home from work.... I really just need to get to bed. Hey, Nat, is Bastet really joining us? Please help me out here - I remember nothing of what you have told me.

Other bashes are sure to come - so we'll keep you posted.... they seem to usually follow a workshop. Thank you to Denys and Vincent - amazing drummers. I have to say my favorite part was watching Denys and Natalie flinging themselves around in a swing dance. AMAZING! We had no idea you two could dance like THAT!

senseless raving and ass-kissing.... me and my obsessions - bah!

Ok, thought I'd take a minute to acknowledge me latest obsessions.
In the beginning.... there was FCBD, The Indigo, and BDSS....
When I tuned into the regional scene, the first that I encountered were troupes around the CSRA, most notably - Alchemy and their fearless leaders, superb Mari [and the infinitely delightful - and pregnant - Jeannie]
After a happy festival and sushi from Wicked Wasabi in Augusta, I then found myself nestling, once in a while, under Natalie Brown's wing (I miss sleeping with you, by the way) I still feel warm and fuzzy when those huge fluffy skirts enter the stage, with Delirium inside of them.
Awalim is positively thunderous! I love their new take on tradition - their crazycolorful costumes and Katya's round, sparkly face... I believe there was a conversation between three un-named SouthEast bellydancers, at the Raging Burrito in Decatur [what is it with bellydancers eating such angry food?!] , about wanting to have her sparkly babies. All the girls in Awalim are warm and wonderful - Ziah has really done a fantastic job putting together such a forceful troupe.
Back at Third Coast, I got my first (tearful) taste of Zaphira, via Maria and Olivia - and I've been a total groupie ever since. Olivia performed at Tribal Con and totally dazzled us. I remember a conversation, not long before the performance, in which she was worried she wouldn't live up to the name.... psh!
Now I'm all over Unmata. Can't get enough of freakin' Amy and Shelly - those girls are so warm and beautiful and... had anyone noted: NATURAL? hahaha!
Anyway, I'm just bursting at the seems. There are so many other incredible, expressive dancers :::cough:::bastet::::cough::: and about a trillion others. I'm so lucky to have found such a beautiful, talented community of smart and loving ladies.... tears!

After Southern Oasis, I'll be returning to Columbia with miss Natty. She has welcomed me into her home so that we can both submerge into bellydance for a while. It will probably be at least a couple months - so Jenni and Katie, take care of Waycross for me. I'm sad about making such a huge change, but I'm really exciting about getting to study with Delirium the way I've been wanting for quite a while now. This is gonna be quite the adventure!

I just received a call from Copeland Productions and, its bad news. They've just informed me that not enough people have registered for either workshop to justify them. Alchemy was unaware of any specific quota of people that needed to be signed up and was unaware that the Kami Liddle workshop was in danger of being cancelled at all. I'm sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause anyone. It was out of our control. Everyone who has paid through PayPal will be refunded.

Last day for reduced price registration to Kami Liddle and Petite Jamilla workshops in Augusta, GA!

Sorry for the Crossposts.

Just a reminder that tomorrow, Friday 12/01/06 is the last day to pay $65 for the belly dance superstars Petite Jamilla and Kami Liddle. Prices will be $75 at the door.

PETITE JAMILLA workshop will be held on Saturday 12/02/006 from 10am-1pm. Registration starts at 9:30.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
Modern Drum Solo ChoreographyL A fun all-levels fusion drum solo choreography that incorporates modern movements. In the choreography, you will learn how to isolate circles on the lateral plane of the body.

ABOUT PETITE JAMILLA:
Our youngest member Petite Jamilla, as pictured on the cover of Live at the Folies Bergere DVD has been touring with the Bellydance Superstars since January of 2004. Performing the celestial and inspiring double veil as a featured part of the show, is just a fraction of what this talented dancer has to offer. Since she was 17, Petite Jamilla has been teaching workshops that range from Zill Techniques with Modern Incorporations, Choreographed Fusion Drum Solos, and Spinning Introductions with Double Veil How-Tos. By the age of 20, she had produced 2 instructional DVDs (Beginners Dance Movements, and Secrets of the Double Veil) available for purchase through www.bohemianmarket.com. Cross-Cultural Fusions are a passionate focus for this dancer as her Irish/Native American ethnicity became the incentive to further explore and push the boundaries of fusion in dance. With training in Bellydance (taught by her mother, Jamilla Rasa), Polynesian, Scottish Highland, Modern Irish, and Cape Breton Step Dancing her unique blend began an unclassifiable style. Dually equipped as a classically trained musician in Western style compositions and Scottish/Irish blends - it was, of all things, the Highland Bagpipes that showcased Petite Jamillas talent for the critically acclaimed Rod Stewart in February of 2000.

KAMI LIDDLE workshop will be held on Sunday12/03/006 from 10am-1pm. Registration starts at 9:30.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
Layering Tribal Fusion Movements with Control and Precision
This class will begin with posture and technique drills, focusing on executing movements correctly and gaining muscle memory which is crucial in layering. We will continue by layering these movements on top of each other and eventually working towards layering 3 movements at a time. These moves will then be put into combinations and a short choreography will be introduced. All levels are welcome, beginning and advanced variations will be offered.

ABOUT KAMI LIDDLE:
Kami's style is what she calls a modern fusion of an ancient dance. Although she is primarily a tribal dancer, she pulls from the various styles of belly dance that she has studied, as well as modern, hip hop, jazz, and bhangra dance. Kami performs both as a solo artist and also collaborates with other dancers. She is a guest artist for The Indigo, directed by Rachel Brice, and has also worked with Samantha Riggs of Boom Boom Bollywood on choreography and periodically performs with the company. Kami was nominated for 'Best Kept Secret"and 'Best Interpretive Artist" for 2005 by Zaghareet Magazine and won the title 'Entertainer of the Year 2005" at Wiggles of the West. Kami currently tours with The Bellydance Superstars.

*** NOTE(S):
- There will be a variety of merchandise available for purchase at the workshop including apparel, jewelry, DVDs and CDs.
- Children under 12 are free. Very young children must be well supervised so as to not be disruptive.
- There will not be a microphone provided at the workshop, so if we can all cooperate and wear fringe and tassles rather than coin belts it'll make it easier for everyone to hear.
- I will have some change, but if you are planning on paying at the door, please try to bring exact payment. Thanks!

Your nights are filled with music and dance, with henna, campfires, and with frienships old and new. This is Bahaia's HOT Dance Camp!
next performance idea

hey guys i really think we need a scheduled performance to keep us in the spirit! Also to raise money for seladora expenses so here's my idea!

Location: planet groove
to decorate we get items that we already have (rugs, pedestools, anything pretty to go with our current theme, etc. the idea is not to spend money though we're gonna make it this time!!!)

How long can three people last: my proposal is 45 minutes. maybe we can bring in kristena and lara for a "beginner's routine" to fill some time in. im sure our brilliant director ashley can tweak a routine for them.

ok so what routines do we have?
1.i cash radii
2.searchers
3.violin solo
4.rare bit fiend (almost complete lol)
5. drum solos (total of 3 for me, ash, jenni) it's not impossible to teach the short one to lara or kristin
6. tribal fusion solos (taht would be 3 again.) this is where i propose we could make lara and kristin there own routine, because fusing waht they can do in a dance would be more possible here.
7. duets (hey we can come up with these anytime!)
8. IMPROV (i love when we just make stuff up! and so far our audiences have too!)

okay so when: i propose 3 weeks from today. on a friday night so that "school" kids can be eligible to come. say start at 7 and end at 7:30-7:45. if we charge like 2 dollars a person, and 50 people show up...that's 100 bucks. We could do multiple showings to increase profits. like from 7-7:45, then 8:15-9:00, then 9:30 to 10:15. or we could do 2 showings on friday and 2 on saturday and then a sunday matinee. If we all pitched in for that 30 dollar ad in the paper we could run it the wednesday or thursday before and pass out fliers. i can print out black and white one s for free to hand out.

so yeah my head has been going with this for a little bit. let me know what is actually possible so we can get started. YIPPEE

We had a blast in SC with Natalie. the only thing missing was you.... though we're waiting for the "go ahead" from the Art Bar, we're thinking about whipping up a new choreo to give on Oct. 27. You down?

Katie's getting her septum pierced and I - whilst rummaging through a closet containing literally generations of clothing in search of a sweater to wear to school - found an almost new Dior sweater (circa 197-something)... lucky lucky!!

and now I'm on my way to being an ALL - THE - TIME bellydancer. First step: Make more classes..... And Jenni, I found your wallet in the back seat of my car. I hope there wasn't any money in it, cause there isn't any now - and there have been many people in my back seat lately! (including skateboarders, bellydance newbies, and repairmen!)

so when do you guys think would be an acceptable time to perform at hot toddy's again...like in 3 weeks...i for one definetely want a little time to perfect my drum solo and my tribal solo...i want to change my song to the sahan one on pentaphobe...it's 4 minutes and 45 seconds but i think i can swing it and if i cant i found a spot to cut it off and it would make it a little over 3 minutes what do you guys think???

also, about our little inprov bit...james said that it was kinda boring cuz we kept going in the same pattern (jen, ash, me) over and over. he suggested that we change it up a bit to keep the interest of the crowd....but he said it was really cool that we all just got up there and perfromed without rehearsing it at all...that made me feel pretty good!
