VOLNTEERS NEEDED THIS SATURDAY
This Saturday the 18th, we need volunteers to meet at the farmers market site at 1pm. We will be pairing up to canvas the streets near the market to drop off invitation fliers to folks in Ward One. On April 25th, the Columbia Farmers Market will be hosting Neighbor Appreciation Day. Our hope is to just fan out to the streets nearest to the market for a few hours. If you can offer 1,2,3 hours, please let me know or just be there at 1 pm. CALL 823-FOOD.
RAIN DAY WILL BE TUESDAY THE 21st at 5:15 PM.

In case you haven't heard yet, the Central Missouri Humane Society is in the running for a million dollar make-over.
There are three phases:
Phase one we gather points to get into the top 20 (we are currently in first place, but this can change. First place in this phase wins $10K)
Phase two the head-honchos come visit all the shelters and pick the top ten.
Phase three America votes on the winner.

So, we need more members before Friday, March 13th. Mostly to cement our first place rank, but also b/c you can't vote in phase 3 unless you sign up in phase 1.
Zoo Too is a free site, kinda like MySpace for pets and their people.
We need all the help we can get, so please sign up, choose CMHS as your supporting shelter and start exploring.
www.ZooToo.com

Thanks Ya'll

Can anyone advise me about professional carpet cleaners in town? Taking into account environmental impact, cost, friendliness, professional ethics. I need to have my carpet cleaned before I host a wedding shower in May and I have no idea how to decide from the ads in the phone book.

Hey all, we just got a sectional and are getting rid of our couch. Its blue corduroy type, soft, comfortable, with the back and arms overstuffed, It does have 1 wear spot in the corner where the seat cushion and back cushion come together, It would be perfect for downstairs/den/play area for kids. I hate to just have it hauled to the dump. If anyone is interested just give me a call. Its out in the front yard now and I can cover it with a tarp. It will need to be moved sometime this weekend. If you are interested I can take a few pics of it and send them to you. Just a reminder we are in Centralia, 18 miles north of Columbia. My phone is 573-808-3153 or post on here.

Learn to Play African Hand Drums (djembe, ashiko, etc.)

Hey everyone! I hope all of you are doing well. I am presenting 3 workshops on West African drumming this fall. October 19th, November 2nd and November 16th. They are all 2 hours each beginning at 3:00pm and ending at 5:00pm. We will be exploring technique (how to play without pain), learn drum songs of the Malinke people from Guinea, West Africa, learn how to participate in drum circles and caring for your instrument. Handouts covering the information presented will be included in the price. The cost is $30.00 for each 2 hour workshop. You may sign up for just one or all of them. I am very pleased to announce that the workshops will be held at the beautiful Orr Street Studios. We will be surrounded by beautiful and though provoking art. If you haven't been the the studios yet, this is going to be a real treat! Orr Street Studios are located at 106 Orr Street in downtown Columbia. Plenty of parking. Pre-registration is required so please contact me at twomusicians@centurytel.net for more information and a registration form. The ancient practice of drumming is a great relaxation tool and with the holidays just around the corner, we could all use a great way to destress!

And now - my resume as a teacher.... My name is Pam Fleenor, founder of Divine Rhythm. I have been playing and making professional grade hand drums and percussion instruments for 15 years and I have had the pleasure of teaching others to play for the last 8 years. Venues I have performed at are many concerts and events around the mid-Missouri area including the Kansas City Reggae Festival. My website is www.wildwoodinstruments.com.

In Rhythm,
Pam

"100 VISIBLE FOR PEACE"--WEDNESDAY, MARCH 19:

March 19, 2003 is a date that will live in infamy. On that day U.S. President George W. Bush ordered the U.S. military to launch an unprovoked war of aggression on the nation of Iraq. Tremendous suffering, death, injury, destruction and dislocation have followed in the wake of this blatantly illegal and immoral act.

This coming Wednesday, the five year anniversary of this travesty, peace loving mid-Missourians will gather in large numbers at the intersection of Broadway & Providence between 4:15-5:45 p.m.

Our goal is to be "100 Visible for Peace." During the evening Rush Hour thousands of our fellow citizens pass through this intersection. While there is a weekly presence for peace, it is easy for some people to dismiss 10 or 15 of us standing on the corners. It will reach many more people to see 50, 75, 100 or more of us there; people from all walks of life, all ages, all classes, etc.

We invite you to join us for the Columbia Peace Coalition-sponsored gathering. Please come for whatever portion of the time you are free to. It is fine to join us for a short time while you are on your way home from work. We will have signs and banners available, although you are welcome to bring your own. Tell friends. Let's make this a high visibility peace event.

I wanted to let folks know that Gail Shen, funky creative proprietess of Gail's China Town, passed over yesterday afternoon after a bout with cancer. I didn't know Gail well but I always always enjoyed running into her on the street and visiting her shop for those strange doodaddies that she had in plenty. She was an incredible artist and a wonderfully playful person.

She will be missed by me and my daughter.

I'm crafting a gift for a friend and I could really use the help of a sewing machine to finish it up. The two that live at my house are (sadly) both broken. So this might be an odd request, but is there anyone in town who owns a sewing machine and would let me use it?? I'd only need it for less than an hour as it's a rather small project. I could make you some cookies or do a little jig in exchange....

For a taste, here is a selection from Walter Bargen's book, Water Breathing Air

MAP TO THE PARTY

IF you wait, you grow old, nothing
more. Traveling light is your only
illuminating illusion.

Either way you can't remain
time and place inseparable.
To settle is to amass names:

lespedeza, hickory, Providence Road.
To accelerate is to compress
latitude and longitude,

to shoulder wind in every
direction, to wear a hole
in the already worn cartography.

To grow old is to grasp sheer
granite faces, to negotiate
declivities and eruptions

of aspiration, to disbelieve
coded legends, to find instead
water's divides, to follow the rule

of thumb-civilization's always
down stream a steaming ruin,
a crumbling repository, a flow,

a seepage, the final flush
to sea level and lower. Buried in
the alluvium: Etruscan bronzes,

eroding pyramids coral-encrusted
hub caps, cracked glass fishing
floats. On an oil-blackened spit

the aging Archimedian rabble
gathers to count the grains
again, praying for a mistake.

I recently had my hair bleached and then colored purple, blue and pink (November 18). I thought it was permanent, but it has done a lot of fading since then when I wash and my tub is totally purple, and I'm thinking it may wash out over time. My boss just informed me today that I needed to correct it immediately (she used the words "normal color", so I guess that's open to interpretation). Any suggestions? Anyone have any idea how much this would cost to fix this professionally, or have a suggestion on who I should see in Columbia? I'm not against dying it a dark brown if need be.

Thanks!

What is the ENDGAME of the Illuminati and the New World Order?
Enslavement and Extermination?

"Love does not work evil to one's neighbor;
therefore love is the Law's fulfillment. Do this (have love), too, because you people know the season, that it is already the hour for you to Have you ever read or watched 1984 ?
Awake from sleep, for now our salvation is near.

Do not put this off till tomorrow!
If you remain ignorant , it will result in demise of everything beautiful in this world.

It will take education and informing others to put a halt to these cabals plans .
STOP IN THE NAME OF LOVE ! Stand Up !
Do you want Global enslavement ? Then Do something !

It will take a lot of Strength , and patience , but please DO NOT GIVE UP .

I want you to be aware of this presence but DO NOT FEAR , They feed on this fear , it gives them power !
Instead Love them without condition.
I am telling you that no matter how cruel and ugly these egocentric elitists become , it is in our best to love them .
We have to set an example and show that we are going to Live Life without Stepping on others .
This is Life's Version of Fear Factor !
Do you want to be a slave ? Then get up , And WAKE UP !
Educate , inform and research 4 urselves and the truth will set you free.
It is suggested to get a variety of opinions , and "facts" from many different sources .
everyone has their own perception , and this is thought to be based on our moment to moment experiences with our environment ,people, etc.

I know this sounds strange, but make sense of it yourselves > I can not do it 4 you !
The pieces fit , so ask some questions and get started with the puzzle.
You may think you are going crazy sometimes , but that is consistent with a majority of others, if not everyone .
And please do not try the high school and college cram sessions .
It is healthy to give your brain time to reflect and rest . Hey, did someone say meditation ?
maybe some breathing techniques ?
Well off you go , and you look so cute, with that curious and determined sparkle in your eyes.

Hello! We (my partner and I) are thinking of moving to Columbia (actually, 99% decided) in December. Anyhoo, we really want to meet some cool, fun, good people. :) Tribe has always been a great source of meeting great people. (We're from Anchorage, Alaska and have met at least 30 great friends from Tribe.) I heart tribe! ;-) We're currently in Columbia now visiting and checking out the town.

Anyhoo, does anyone want to meet at the Flat Branch this evening for some dinner? We'll tell you Alaska stories, and you can tell us CoMo stories!

Deva Dancers have a new home

After 10 years at the gym formerly known as Gold’s Downtown (now, Key Largo), the
Deva Dancers bellydance troupe will be holding classes in a new location.

Starting Wednesday, Oct. 24, bellydance classes will be held at Elm Street Yoga.

Beginning classes: 7:30 p.m.
Advanced classes: 8:30 p.m.
classes are $10 each, or $30 per month.

*please note that classes will be held on Wednesdays, rather than Fridays.

Elm Street Yoga is a spacious and lovely yoga studio located at 904 E. Elm Street, Suite
210. If you stand on Elm Street and look at the Upper Crust, the yoga studio is around the
left-side of the building.

We are excited to have such a lovely and accessible dance space and we hope to see new
students in our new location.

I am looking to learn a very basic level of Arabic and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on where to locate either good learning materials. Or even better if anyone knows of classes that can be taken locally. I am taking a trip to Egypt this coming May and want to be able to communicate at a basic level with people I might meet there. Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

Any inline skaters out there who have mastered this? I tried it for the second time today, going in a clockwise direction, and wiped out hard on the ninety degree turn (east to south) at the bottom of a hill. I've got the worst road rash of my life all down my right leg.

I've skated for years; I regularly skate the loop at Cosmo, so I'm not stranger to hills, but this trail is beyond me.
To: Phil Steinhaus (psteinhaus@ColumbiaHA.com)
Subject: Spark in the Park Events - Community Response to Hate
Dear Friends and Colleagues:

As many of you know, Neo-Nazis are planning to march in downtown Columbia this coming Saturday, March 10, 2007 sometime in the afternoon between 12:00 noon and 5:00 p.m.

The best community response is to ignore their message and their attempt to incite violence by staying away from downtown Columbia during this time. Their main purpose is to incite anyone in the crowd to attack them during their march thus causing the Police to arrest those in the crowd.

Please avoid this trap and incitement to violence and encourage others to stay away from downtown Columbia as well.

Our community has rallied against hate and has planned alternative events and activities designed to bring people together to celebrate our diversity. Douglass Park and the J.W. Blind Boone Community Center will be the site of “Spark in the Park,” an afternoon of community events and activities for youth and adults of all ages. Please join us by attending Spark in the Park on Saturday afternoon and show everyone that the best response to hate messages is tolerance and the celebration of diversity.

If you are unable to attend but want to make a difference in other ways, please consider taking the Hate-Free Pledge and donating funds toward the programs listed on the attached document.

Additional information is also available on the following web site: http://www.tolerance.homestead.com/

Please join our community in avoiding violence and messages of hate by staying away from the march and joining us at Spark in the Park or other community activities. Together we can send a clear message that hate is not tolerated in our town.

Please forward this information to others in our community.

Sincerely,

I'm just curious. The following event got posted yesterday, but I can't see it under ALL posts and neither can the other two folks I checked with. It also did not register as a new posting and so didn't prompt me to view the tribe to read it. It is, however, posted as an EVENT. Can you folks give me some feedback---can you see this event listed below in your ALL posts tab, or not? -Thanks, DA

I had a positive perception from our meeting for an estimate, but would like to get feedback from someone who has had work done by him.

Good dog needs a good home

Hi everyone,
I am looking for a home for a dog that belongs to a friend. The dog's name is Buddy, he is a 9 year old boxer with a good temperment. Well trained, good with kids, ignores cats and very sweet. He is also deaf and responds to hand commands. My friend is moving from KC to Columbia and none of the places he can rent will allow pets.

Please pass the message along to anyone who may know of a good home for Buddy, he will make a great friend. Contact Deb at the_chrome_kamuro@yahoo.com.

Thanks,
Pam

okay y'all...
...we evidently have a problem since we don't have a moderator.
just to keep this going i totally volunteer, but know that i'm not obsessively active in this role.
if anyone else wants to do it...completely fine with me, but we need to decide soon i'm guessing.

let's hear some thoughts and get this done.
over and out. ;)

Hey there, "COLUMBIA, MO" members--

This Tribe doesn't have a moderator, but as a matter of policy, Tribe.net likes all groups to have a leader. Can you collectively choose someone to moderate your Tribe?

When you've reached consensus, have the new moderator send a note to help@tribe.net, with the words "Moderator Change – COLUMBIA, MO" in the subject header, letting us know that you've selected a new leader. Please be sure to include a link to this discussion thread!

Thanks--

I found a dumpster filled halfway with computer suppplies - keyboards, mouses, cords - I wish I had a truck I would have filled it up!
I only had by back-pack, however, so I was only able to obtain a keyboard and a mouse and some cords - I also saw a usable 20lb propane tank - but I have no truck, if anybody on this tribe lives in Columbia, Missouri and has a truck I could give you directions to these locations (Computer supplies are in the alley on the second block before Boone National Bank facing north and the propane tank is next to a dumpster facing south down one block west of that dumpster).

Protest of Military Commissions Act on November 6th.

Students for Progressive Action is sponsoring a protest of the Military Commissions Act. Here’s more info from our press release:

“Abandoning the Constitution is Un-American: a Protest of the Military Commissions Act” to Occur November 6th

“Abandoning the Constitution is Un-American,” a protest of The Military Commissions Act, will be held Monday November 6th, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at speakers circle on the University of Missouri campus. The protest, announced today by Students for Progressive Action, will call on the U.S. government to respect international law, human rights and the U.S. Constitution. The protest will be a community-wide action on the part of concerned citizens

The Military Commissions Act, signed by President Bush October 17, 2006, undermines the U.S. Constitution and international law. Congressional dissenting views that accompany the act state that it “endangers our service members by rewriting and limiting compliance with the Geneva Conventions and with U.S. legal norms” and “violates separation of powers by stripping federal courts of habeas jurisdiction.” Amnesty International states that the act “violates international law” and “violates human rights principles” The ACLU characterizes the Military Commissions Act as “…one of the most radical rollbacks of civil liberties in American history.”

Dr. John Galliher, director of MU’s Peace Studies Program and professor of sociology, will speak at the protest from 11:40 to 12:10. His talk will address how the Military Commissions Act constitutes a threat to our constitutional rights and international law.
####

We’ve already sent this out to the press. Now the major concern is getting people to show up for the rally. Can you all please promote this rally in your classes, workplaces, and amongst your friends? That would be a huge help.

It would be really good to have a lawyer at the event. I am trying to get Dan Viets to speak at it, but so far he hasn’t returned my calls. If any of you know him, could you help me get him to speak at the event? Or if not him, are there any other progressive lawyers in the area that might be interested in doing this on short notice?

Thanks Everyone

Pam Fleenor, Columbia percussionist and drum maker will be teaching a 4 week long class in November. The class will start on Thursday, November 2nd at 6:00pm, each class is 1 hour long. Thanksgiving will be skipped of course and the last class will be on November 30th.

The class will focus primarily on djembe and ashiko, but those who have congas or doumbeks are also welcome. Learn to play hand drums with proper technique to accurately produce the full range of the drum's voice - without pain. Drums songs from the Malinke people of Guinea, West Africa will be presented. Other topics include caring for your instrument, how to tune drums and how to participate in drum circles. A written tuning diagram for rope tensioned drums will be provided for students to take home (it's not as difficult as you may think!).

There will be a limited number of drums available for those who do not yet own a drum. The class is for ages 16 and up. The location will be downtown Columbia, MO in an area with plenty of parking. Address and directions will be provided after registration is complete. The cost of this 4 week class is $40.00. Please contact Pam to register at twomusicians@centurytel.net.

Private lessons are also available at $20.00 per hour for a 4 week commitment. ($80.00).

I was shocked and intrigued by the honesty generated from the criticism and disparity of reviews from the peace website. Some loved it, some hated it...
I guess I feel that I must do the inevitable and ask for the torrent of horrible criticism that I am due when developing my own website. I would love to work with more people on this website. Some of it is not done and some of it is....but really ...it serves many different functions for me both personal and impersonal.

But the real question is: what does it do to your EYES?
fear breeding fear spiral.

Our global culture is teetering on the edge of extinction.

No 1 person alone can turn this around, but together WE CAN!

"The Structure of world peace cannot be the work of one man, one
party,or one nation. It must be a peace which rests on the cooperative
effort of the whole world"
... Eleanor Roosevelt

Our basic human instincts drive us to seek safety. This is what this
chaos is all about. Our essential human survival instincts are acting
out of context with the wider global cultural need resulting in
mistrust, fear and conflict.

Everywhere the media is bombarding us with WAR TALK, distractions and
negative belief patterns that encourage us to believe that the future
of our world is out of our hands entirely.

One place we still have communal access to, is OUR STREETS.

We can balance our GLOBAL CONVERSATION with collective self-expression
using OUR STREETS AS OUR MEDIA!

Chalk4Peace is one step, a catalyst that can transform our global
conversation as
we the people, en masse make our statement that is our common
aspiration for peace.

START NOW! Just DO IT!

Carry some chalk with you, invite a friend with you, to chalk
inspirations on the pavement whenever and wherever you fancy.

Chalk is harmless, cheap and washes away within a few days.

Especially PARTICIPATE in the Sept 16 – 17th
GLOBAL Chalk4Peace ACTION!

Make it happen in your Community!

(Scroll down for "WHAT CAN YOU DO?")

Lets us turn our grey streets into a living river of colour and
possibility -
With poetry, hearts, peace symbols, empowering statements, also
expressions of our frustrations and despair.

All will be seen for several days by thousands of people, then as they
are washed away by the elements WE CAN CONTINUE to find fresh places
to Chalk4Peace.

We don't need to be an artist to Chalk4Peace. Every statement, however
small or large becomes part of the amazing tapestry that is our
global future.

This unique event conceivably, could be the largest of its kind in
modern history.
It is a global effort that is happening.

We The People are spreading the word and making the effort to be a
part of
this huge creative endeavour to bring Peace back into the equation.

It is our goal for at least one million or more of us to participate
with this
sidewalk/pavement chalk extravaganza, at thousands of locations, in as
many countries, cities and towns around the world as is possible.

Does anyone know of any reicki circles going on in or around Columbia? I am badly in need. I don't have the $$$ to lay down for massages or acupuncture...reicki works best for me anyway.

If there aren't any started...would anyone be interested in starting one? (besides me)

Fellow Burners and OA friends......

Let me begin with an apology for the back and forth nature of this
issue. It was never my intent to flip flop on any policies we
implemented but I am finding that, as this is my first event, I really
underestimated how important some of these issues are to some of you
and I didn't know the law.

For that I sincerely apologize. I envisioned a member organized
function with qualities similar to Interfuse and Hullabalu but I
really wanted to provide an event that anyone that wanted to,
regardless of age, could participate. Interfuse 2006 was my first
experience and I loved it so much when I saw an opportunity to provide
this to folks that couldn't make the big burn I was very excited.

In my haste I used the term "family friendly" event because it was
part of my hope that the event could truly be family oriented. It is
an amazing site to see a childs eyes light up when they see someone
spinning fire or to see them actually spinning glow sticks. I think
this experience truly has a magic about it that I just didn't
personally feel I wanted to deny the kids. I didn't want to exclude
anyone.

We live in a time unfortunately where right wing agendas make things
that in reality are fairly harmless into a big deal. Thus our state of
Missouri has passed legislation that makes it illegal for me to be
able to say that Shipwrecked can be both "family/kid friendly" AND
"clothing optional".

It was a very tough decision to make. On the one hand I didn't want
to piss off the folks that feel strongly about their rights to be
naked when and where they want but I also have been saddened by some
of the emails I have recieved off list from parents upset they have to
tell their kids they can't come. Especially after I originally
announced they could.

Understandably this is going to make some folks upset and I do
apologize. I am announcing that the final, and I do mean final,
decision regarding Shipwrecked is that the event will indeed be NOT
CLOTHING OPTIONAL!

The difficulty here is making everyon happy.

its to damn hot

t's Soooo Hot!

The birds have to use pot holders to pull worms out of the ground.

The trees are whistling for the dogs.

The best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.

Hot water now comes out of both taps.

You can make sun tea instantly.

You learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.

The temperature drops below 95 F (35 C) and you feel a little
chilly.

You discover that in July it only takes 2 fingers to steer your car.

You discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.

You actually burn your hand opening the car door.

You break into a sweat the instant you step outside at 7:30 a.m.

Your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and
end up lying on the pavement and cook to death?" (Remember the
corner at Mitchell, on the way to Sturgis?)

You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.

The potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out
and
add butter, salt and pepper.

Farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from
laying
boiled eggs.

The cows are giving evaporated milk
&
Poi catch on fire without using flame

STAY COOL!
Not to mention all the other blissful things about Diana’s Grove including Sinking Creek, a wood fired hot tub, cozy cabins, healthy & natural meals, meditation walks in the labyrinth under the stars & the nature observatory!

Tickle me Elmo joke

There is a factory in Northern Minnesota which makes the Tickle Me Elmo toys.
The toy laughs when you tickle it under the arms.
Well, Lena is hired at The Tickle Me Elmo factory and she reports for her first day promptly at 8:00 AM.
The next day at 8:45 AM there is a knock at the Personnel Manager's door.
The Foreman throws open the door and begins to rant about the new employee.
He complains that she is incredibly slow and the whole line is backing up, putting the entire production line behind schedule.
The Personnel Manager decides he should see this for himself, so the 2 men march down to the factory floor.
When they get there the line is so backed up that there are Tickle Me Elmo's all over the factory floor and they're really beginning to pile up.
At the end of the line stands Lena surrounded by mountains of Tickle Me Elmo's.
She has a roll of plush red fabric and a huge bag of small marbles.
The 2 men watch in amazement as she cuts a little piece of fabric, wraps it around two marbles and begins to carefully sew the little package between Elmo's legs.
The Personnel Manager bursts into laughter.
After several minutes of hysterics he pulls himself together and approaches Lena.
"I'm sorry," he says to her, barely able to keep a straight face, "but I think you misunderstood the instructions I gave you yesterday..."
"Your job is to give Elmo two test tickles.
If you don't send this to five friends right away, there will be five fewer people laughing in the world!

Looking for Practice Space

Hello Tribe!

My name is Stuart, local artist/musician type. Currently I'm working with another musician on creating a sonic collaboration (a.k.a. a band) and we need a practice space. What we are looking for is a secure space where we can store our equipment, that has electricity, plumbing, airconditioning and heat would be great, etc. where we could practice at any hour of the day or night. We aren't overly loud, but can rattle a few bones from time to time. The music is sort of neo-tribal dream stalker ambient juju brain searing dance bliss music...kind of. We could go up to as much as a couple hundred bucks a month rent if need be.

The practicing in a storage space idea won't work. We need to be able to keep some drinks on ice, make coffee and then have a place to deposit it after we've processed it.

If anyone has any ideas or possibilities, please let me know either through TRIBE or directly to my email - Stuart@DEStudios.net

Thanks!

To anyone coming to the pool party saturday, please bring your drums. I am trying to organize some post-dinner drumming for fun, entertainment, and to give the poi people something to spin to. Any drum/percussion things are more than welcome. Just load them up and bring them with you. I personally am bringing my rainstick and digideroo. I know there'll be at least 2 drums so far as well. Hope to see everyone there, Mooncrest

What an awesome fire spin out at OA last night!! The fire spinners were amazing. At one point there were at least 4 going at the same time! There was a wonderfully sensual topless fire spin by a beautiful Fire Goddess named Sparrow. We had a nice drum jam going for the spinners and dancers and it was awesome to see all of these elements mix so well together! OA is an incredible place to camp and spin and drum and dance and party!!!!! Jessie's new fire dart was awesome too! What a fire loving freak you are!! So i hope everyone can make it out to OA again this Sat July 8th for our 1st annual Howl at the Moon Fire Spinning Campout! Cant wait to do it again!
Peace & Fire,
Date: Sat Jul 1, 2006 12:18 pm (PDT)

Join us at Ozark Avalon on Monday July 3 for our traditional
Interdependence Day
Celebration. This change of date will allow folks to make family events
on the 4th or
just have an extra day to travel and recover from the festivities. We
will BBQ around 5pm, do a Burn and bonfire and have a great Bring your
Own Fireworks
Display. Come early for tie dye or to enjoy swimming. We invite all fire
spinners and Poi artists

to join in our tribute to the Fire elementals and our warm feelings of
interconnectedness to each other and all living things.

\

Celebrate Interdependence Day with lots of sun and fire magick. Bring
white stuff if you wish to tie dye.
If you come just for the Interdependence Day Celebration fees of $8 per
adult (children free)

or $15 per car will apply and include camping before or after. If you
plan to drink at all

we encourage you to stay and have indoor space if you do not have a
tent.
Ozark Avalon is a 501-C-3 organization and all fees go towards
event expenses and purchase and upkeep of the land.

Fire, Burner Culture and the Media (dont mix well!!!!)

OK everybody...i just wanted to get my 2 cents in before Kaos and i head out to Trance fest tomorrow night. I have been invloved in many groups before including the local s&m group here CEPE. I have marched thru the streets of SF and battled with horse mounted riot police. (remember the Death Squads in El Salvador? and the genocide at Big Mountain in AZ??) I have seen how the media deals with people like "us". Let me just say for the record that i am opposed to any sort of media coverage of anything that we do. We are not a band trying to sell records or tickets to a show. We dont need publicity! We dont need the media to write a story about something they have no idea about. We dont need a bunch of "normal" people tilting the energy and good vibe that we have created so far. I definitly do NOT want my picture in the paper or my name in the paper or any of our Groups emails or url's listed in the paper either. I hope im not the only one here with an aversion to the media! Somehow i doubt i am! Thats why i love you guys and Tribe.Net and want to celebrate our culture by having a fun party in August. I think the keyword for this discussion should be DISCRETION. When CEPE was approached by a Missourian reporter a few years ago we turned them away and nobody gave them any info. Thats what i think should happen here and now as well. Before it gets out of control. Kaos and i are discussing an idea to create a private email list for the Fire Group so that we can communicate without the media watching us. Which they are now. The Missourian reporter will be reading this post for sure. He found us on Tribe via the burning Man Tribe. Anyway...i just wanted to voice my opinion about the media before saturdays gathering since i wont be there. I would love to hear what some of your opinions are about this. But dont try to change my mind about the media cuz it wont work!! Hehe. Have a Super Fun Independence filled weekend everybody! I know i am! See you all soon.

Promoter Extraordinaire Tony Kaos and I were discussing the party tonight and we came up with the briilliant idea to have a Morroco theme to the party! Yes! We have lots of Morrocan music, a hookah, and we could have Morrocan food and tea! And of course bellydancing! And drumming! And fire! Jajouka is dancing in my head!!

Moving fire spinning night

Hey all, starting this week we are moving the burns to Saturdays and I
think everyone liked having it around the burn pit at Stephens Park.
for those who dont know that is up on the top of the hill inbetween
the two big shelters. There is a smaller one and the fire pit is on
the other side of it. I will try and get a sign or something together
so folks know we are there. So grab your poi, firends, and camera's
and come out and enjoy the night with some cool people and of coarse
some fire spinning. see you all saturday

3rd annual pagan pool party & spinning --- just need to be pagan friendly

This will be the 3nd annual Pagan Pool Party and Pot
Luck BBQ to help raise food donations for Mid-MO Pagan Pride Day in Columbia. It will be July 15th of 2006 in
Centralia,MO. (about 18 miles north of Columbia) We have rented both the
shelter and park area near the pool.Due to the heat of last yr we will start the BBQ later. It will start at 5:30. Then we will
move over to the pool at 7:30-9:30. Please bring a dish to share and
what you wish to BBQ. The signs will read
"PoolParty" for those who are still in the closet. This is very kid
friendly event. The Pool has a kiddie pond. The main Pool has 2
racing slides and diving boards plus a new 125 ft water slide.
(picture in photo section) This is all free of charge but we do ask for
donations of 2 cans of food or non perishable items for Mid-Mo Pagan Pride. Last yr we raised 95 lbs of food and hopefully more this upcoming yr in 2006.

**There will be a drawing for kid(12 and under) prizes again this year and maybe even one for (12-16) and hopefully 1 for over 16.

***Feel free to use this site to promote other pagan events and groups throughout the yr.***

I want to thank all those who came out and helped us spin. It rained the whole time!! Think that would stop us? HELL NO. We had fire spinners, lighted spinners, drummers and alot of supporters. There bands couldnt play due to the rain so we became the entertainment for the evening. tut, kaos, satia, joe, jesse, trish, jim, leslie, and tim Thank you so much for your help last night. You guys rocked. We had the crowd hoooooping and hoooooollering and some even braved the downpour to stand out near us to watch. This was great, Kindra & Boyd loved having us there and we had a blast being there. She came by several times thanking us and wanting to make sure we had enough food and drink. Even with the rain it was an awsome day. Glad we were apart of it. Many many thanks to those who showed up.
Sheridan
P.S. Maybe next time we will have fire staffs, If the boys dont forget them again *hint hint to jesse & joe*

Next sunday I will have a mixture of 70%oil 30%white gas. Several say it burns longer and cleaner with alot less throw off. What do some of the rest of you use?? I knwo we have been using just oil and several times it has come up about the different fuels. I will also try and get my butt in gear and make some more practice poi......Yes i know i have said in the past but believe it or not i have the material just not the time to do it. Who knows maybe i will just watch this week and make poi while everyone spins. We will just have to wait and see.
