Hi all,
I'm entering my first competition this August ( www.nebdc.com ). The time limit for my category is 9 minutes. The time limit for some of the other categories is 7 minutes. The songs that I'm finding that I love are 7-8 minutes. Yes, I could edit different pieces together, but I would prefer to dance to one song that has it all.
My question: Is it a faux pas to use music that does not take advantage of the full allotted time? As I said this is my first competition experience so I'm wondering about this. The site does say time limits are strict (of course!) but my music-too-short question remains... Your feedback is really appreciated!

Re: Music length for competition--too short vs. time limit
Thu, February 12, 2009 - 3:45 PMJust because you get 9mins doesn't mean you HAVE to use them!
Just make sure you include a variety of fabulous moves, have a stunning costume and a huge beautiful smile!
Good luck,
Cassiopeia

Re: Music length for competition--too short vs. time limit
Thu, February 12, 2009 - 7:36 PMIt is far worse to go over the time limits, as they tend to dock points from your total score for that. I wouldn't dance to like a 3 minute song, but 7-8 should be good. -

Fri, February 13, 2009 - 8:00 AMYes, they do and it can be between 15 and 25 points. Certainly not something any dancer wants.

Re: Music length for competition--too short vs. time limit
Fri, February 13, 2009 - 7:58 AMMost competitions give you a grace period, because of differences in recorders and player. I know Wiggles of the West does. I agree with Cassiopea leave them wanting more.
