Namaste all
Tried for a drum circle in Princes Island Park this past weekend, but it seems we all sort of missed each other. But we'll be trying there again on a semi regular basis. For now Sundays seem to work for everyone and Princes Island is pretty central.
The only thing is, the folk festival is there this weekend, and eye'm wondering if anyone other than myself is too broke to go and wants to meet up for a gathering?
Also, where would you like to meet? somewhere central would still be good....are we ready to brave riley again?

Re: Drum Circle
Tue, July 24, 2007 - 11:18 AMIts hard to say, I was talking about this with a few friends of sunday when we found no one was at princes island.
Riley works, but its full of gutter punks and 14 year old kids with stretch pants and big black hair. Theym attract police and so do drums apparently :P. Someone was saying that the cops just drive straight through the park now!
The folk fest doesnt leave much room for anything else though, but hopefully riley might have to work. -

Re: Drum Circle
Tue, July 24, 2007 - 12:38 PMHey Becky, I was there on Sunday, listening for drums, smelling for hippies but I could not find you guys. Can you be more specific as to WHERE IN PRINCE'S ISLAND?
As for this weekend, I could use a few drummers and musicians. Sunday for sure, Saturday possibly. Meet at the busking circle at Eau Claire around 9. -

Re: Drum Circle
Tue, July 24, 2007 - 2:36 PMawww....we missed each other! eye got there at about 6:30 and left at 9 :=(
But eye know tarzie and the burning man crew were there right in front of the "main stage" spinning and what not.
for this weekend, drummers and musicians could go help busk for sure but then that leaves the hoopers and spinners out of the loop....unless we've got room for the flocks to share.
Sheraka....any suggestions? Small space to work with but we could make it work if you want to try. other than that eye would say Riley or further down on the path near folk fest -

Re: Drum Circle
Tue, July 24, 2007 - 5:35 PMRight now it's just a small gig and we are feeling too overwhelmed to coordinate more than like 3 performers. Sorry. Other performers are welcome to form a show of their own, but for the time being we are focusing on building Dizzy Carnival. I'd love to play afterwards with whoever wants to spin, dance and play.
It may not be happening Saturday night though. Just Sunday for sure.

pathway to walk on to downtown
there are plans in place for a metaphysical festival.
perhaps we could facilitate something to this degree

Re: event location
Thu, July 26, 2007 - 11:50 AMEdworthy park would be sweet, but probably a long transit ride for people who dont have cars and/or live downtown. The police and nasty hoolans in the parks kind of ruined it for the rest of us in the inner city though, so maybe somewhere a bit out of the way might not be a bad idea. I would suggest confedderation park, but theres so many houses around there, someone would probably call and complain about the drums. Princes island is probably our best bet, and the main stage the most obvious area. We can scratch this weekend off though, cause folk fest has blocked off most of the park :P. -

Re: event location
Sat, July 28, 2007 - 12:03 PMwell we could also try one of the smaller community parks or a school field or something. There is a pretty unknown park down in Mission that could work. It really is just going to take people meeting up and making a strong enough sound that we take back the parks.
Princes Island work so well because it is central and unless we're all willing to change the night, there are still people that work Monday Mornings and less travel home, the longer they can stay.
So...further down the path at Princes Island for tomorrow would be great....like down towards the foot bridge (10 street bridge). There is a pretty big area there to work with.
