That's right. It's big. It's bright. It's loud. And..... this year, it burns. If you're going to Burning Man this year, stop by the Towers of Shiva project, located at 6:30 & playa. Bring your fire tools, fuel, duvey and come play one last time on the Shiva stage Mon-Thurs from 8pm-4am. On Fri 9/4, it will be shut down and prepped to burn at 11pm. Before the burn, we invite all fire performers to strut their stuff around the perimeter before we set it ablaze. A not-to-be-missed event......

Anyone have poi to sell?

Last year after one of the shows at Mapes Plaza, someone walked away with Ricochet's poi.

She's been living with me here in Monterey and if RCB had a tool workshop, she's missed it.

Does anyone have any "extra" or old poi that we can buy from you so she has poi for Burning Man?

hey everyone.
My name is Matalvin, and my girl and I are going on a vacation from the 12-19th, out to Cali.
we were wondering if there will be any spin jams or burner get togethers. within that week.

We'll be landin' in Sacramento on Tuesday. traveling up to Lake Tahoe, and Reno for a couple of days.
(also hoping to make it out to Aliens class)
then we'll be going through SanFran, and hopefully down to Santa Cruz towards the end of the week.
Hoping to meet some west coast burners, and get to know some people out west...

Bliss and Ian Teach Staff and Poi Classes June 2nd, take two...

Controlled Burn is pleased to host and proud to be able to present to the community two fire workshops by “Bliss Butterfly” and “Ian Michael Smith”.

Bliss is a professional fire bellydance instructor, performer and an avid student of the movement arts. She began her practice of yoga at fourteen and incorporates the balance of acroyoga in dance prayerformances. She has offered a variety of workshops at events and festivals which include yoga, bellydance, hoop bellydance, fire bellydance, and double staff dance. Her philosophy on the art of fire began and continues to stem from a dance backround and gives emphasis to proper body mechanics, technique, movement and interaction with fellow dancers. All workshops with Bliss begin with warming up muscles with specific stretches for the areas of repeated use in class. Bliss is a fiery bellydancer and enjoys sharing the inspiration that is this community!

Ian has been fire dancing for about eight years. Poi is his favorite and he also spins staff, double staff, double whips, contact juggling, and ball juggling. He currently performs with Vulcan Crew, Copper Lantern Fire Theater, LumenAscent, Think13 and have recently started to work with Bliss Butterfly. I am also a modern dancer. I have trained extensively in the Axis Syllabus, and currently perform with Capacitor and Corpi Liquidi. He was involved in founding the Spinagogue, and am currently involved in creating Kindle, the first fire arts culture magazine.

Bliss and Ian will be offering two workshops:

6:30 pm- 7:45pm - Intermediate Staff Dance

This Class will focus on interactions between the staff and your body. We will do a quick overview of off-center spinning then work with using the momentum of the staff to move your body and visa versa. We will then work with aspects like quality and levels and end with ways to utilize the hand that does not have the staff in it.

8:00 pm-9:15 pm - Poi Dance Techniques (All levels)

This class will focus on techniques and drills I have found useful when learning to dance with poi. We will cover pendulums, stalls, polyrhythum, turning, and hip transitions.

Cost: $25 for one session, $40 for both sessions.

Please note that money contributed goes DIRECTLY to the instructors. Controlled Burn is facilitating these workshops to happen, we make nothing from them.

From 6-8 p.m. will be Interlocking Partner Poi. This class is for advanced beginner and up levels of skill and demonstrates how to interact and flow with a partner.

From 8-10 p.m. will be about Framing. More details and better description will be posted as it becomes available, but we are very excited about this opportunity.

Alien Jon teaches with Nick Woosley, one of the best known and prolific poi spinners today.

With the help of Nick Woolsey and playpoi.com I'm currently booking more workshops date around the US. This is part of a tour to raise the cash so that I can go to Bali and then tour Europe with Nick, so as to further our collaborative poi endeavors and share with the world.

Recently, Controlled Burn sent a willing member out into the community to discover what it wants from us, and what its current perceptions of Controlled Burn are. We thought it important to lay out here, on our public face, what we learned, invite additional feedback, to let you know that we talked about what we learned, and have made some decisions collectively based on the feedback received. Below you will see a statement/concern, then Controlled Burn’s response:

C: Controlled Burn is “rudderless” and will fall apart without an Executive Director.

CB: At our board meeting last week, the board voted to suspend the office of Executive Director, and each of the managing directors to take a more active, collective portion of the responsibility for the operation of Controlled Burn. This decision will be revisited at the end of the current calendar year, prior to initiating elections for 2010. We are excited to try this new experiment, and hope you will stick with us through what is sure to be an exciting year! We appreciate and thank Howard Chen for taking on the Executive Director role during the last couple of years; he was instrumental in helping with the organizational process that has gotten us here where we are. Controlled Burn is committed to staying a viable educational and public service to our community…bringing fire performance art to the forefront of our community and sharing those skills with anyone willing to take the time to learn them.

C: Retention/Recruitment: Controlled Burn is exclusionary because of the cost involved with requiring insurance and fire marshal’s cards for performing members.

CB: We acknowledge that this is an expense and one that can appear daunting to some. The board voted last week to make a concerted effort to make participation in Controlled Burn “free” except for tool and costuming needs. To this end, we have developed a program where 50% of revenue from Controlled Burn shows will be set aside to reimburse members for fire marshal card and insurance expenses. Initial reimbursement will be $50 upon CB’s receipt of documentation that insurance has been paid for the year (a receipt, insurance certificate, or copies of check and insurance renewal/application). Subsequent payments will be made on a gig-by-gig basis, distributed monthly at members meetings up to the cost of insurance and fire marshal card, currently $227.50. This on-going tally is performer/performance specific. If the member wishes not to take their reimbursement, this will be considered a donation back to Controlled Burn, for which a tax-deductible donation receipt will be provided to the individual.

C: Controlled Burn’s musical choices are not edgy enough, like they used to be.

CB: Last year, Controlled Burn tried an experiment with two separate “themed” shows. Because our “themes” were “The Spans of Time” and “Controlled Burn Cabaret”, the musical choices for last year were not what would be considered “normal” for Controlled Burn. We hope to get back to that driving, jump-in-your-seat music you have come to know and love us for. Stay tuned!

C: Community upset that Shiva Vista did not burn last year. Community upset that they haven’t heard anything so far this year about Shiva Vista.

CB: Controlled Burn applied for an art grant from the Burning Man organization to help fund the final EVOLUTION of the “TOWERS OF SHIVA” this year. We were required to wait until we were given the okay that said funding had been secured before we could begin planning. However, we haven’t been sleeping on the job! Meetings have been held, designs created, and this year THE SHIVA VISTA STAGE WILL BURN!! We are very excited about this, and hope to make this an opportunity for anyone who’s had a meaningful experience on the Shiva Vista to come and say goodbye to it, burn there one more time, then join us to send off Shiva into the ashes to be born again to something new…what, we aren’t sure yet =) The website design has been redone, the information has been updated and continues to be so. Light up the Holidays with Controlled Burn!

Controlled Burn is proud to be participating in the California Avenue Merchants Association Christmas Party for the second year. This FREE event will take place Thursday, December 11, 2008 with short sets taking place from 5:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. Controlled Burn will be performing in front of the Blue Plate, (located at 236 California Avenue), Reno.

Controlled Burn will light up the night with Holiday-inspired costumes and choreography to get everyone into the Holiday spirit! It will be toasty warm where we are, regardless of the weather outside, so come on down and join us!

If you cannot make California Avenue, head up the mountain on New Year’s Eve for Controlled Burn’s THIRD annual “Fire and Ice” celebration at Northstar at Tahoe. We will be performing three 10-15 minute sets at 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. So get your ski on early in the day, celebrate with some live music, and then watch Controlled Burn light up the night sky! “Misfits of Nevada " This entry will twist the title of the movie The Misfits. Burners are encouraged to outfit themselves in their finest burner attire with western flair. Movie character personalities also encouraged. Entry will include art cars/mutant vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.

"The Godfathers of Fire" will be dressed in mobster, gangster, showgirl attire. Dave King will be shooting off his propane effects & Johnno, The Rhino will be in charge of the beats. Entry will include propane effects, art cars, stilt walkers, hoopers, cyclists & support crew. If you want to come out and play with fire, insurance and fire marshal card is required. If you are a hooper, stilter, cyclists, etc. no insurance is required, dress up in either theme and come on out and play with us. Line-up time is 9am on West Long St. in Carson City on Saturday 11/1.

Okay, so here is the line-up as far as it exists NOW. I will update it weekly until I leave for the playa 8/22.

IMPORTANT INFO, FIRST!
- OPEN FIRE JAMS: If a DJ is listed at a time when no other performers are listed, fire performers are welcome to come and spin at the Shiva Vista Project. We request that if you plan to spin, that you bring fuel to share.
- SAFETY: If you plan to bring a large group of fire performers, please plan to bring along your own fire safeties as well. SVP will have staff available on site and onstage for general fire safety, but we can only handle a reasonable number of people at a time. IF YOU NEED extra safety/perimeter staff, YOU NEED to let me know ASAP so I can secure Rangers/security. It's close and toasty venue!!

Water for fire: got a garden hose in reno?

Hey. I'm looking for someone who lives in Reno and will let me use their garden hose to fill a ~50 gallon barrel with water, late at night on July 3rd. It's about as much water as you'd use to take a bath.

I'm part of a Bay Area fire art group called Interpretive Arson (interpretivearson.com). Our most well-known project is Dance Dance Immolation. We're bringing another big fire toy, called 2pir, out to the playa for the 4th. We use a water-bath style tank heating system, which needs a bunch of water, and I'm trying to figure out how to avoid hauling that 500lbs of liquid over the mountains.

Traveling Cirkus looking for venues to play at pre-BRC

Cirkus Pandemonium is a traveling cirkus troupe that embraces the new-wave small top cirkus movement. We have been touring since 2005, and have been developing a show that combines acrobalance, aerial silk, unicycling, juggling, burlesque, and sideshow acts with a theatrical world of goblins and faeries. We will be in Reno, Nevada from the second week of August through the beginning of the Burning Man festival, and are interested in finding venues to perform in while we're in town. If you don't know, Nada Motel is this year's incarnation of Dada Motel. http://tribes.tribe.net/nadamotel. Last year we had 17 motel rooms filled with art exhibitions and off-shoot events all around downtown such as the tower of TV's, the Neon Trainyard and Shiva Vista-ites spinning; these were all down on 4th Street.
This year we're staying more confined to the intersection of 2nd & Arlington where our two motel locations are: Hotel El Cortez and the Town House Motorlodge. The TH has a very big parking lot where I'm hoping HOOPERS, SPINNERS, BURLESQUERS, and AERIALISTS would like to participate. Actually some of that would happen inside the Trocadero Lounge, which, for our event will be called the Cock Fight Lounge; music, dancing and entertainment happens all 4 days. Tova is heading up the Cock Fight Lounge; so go to our tribe and hit her up if you wanna know more about the Lounge events or to BE a lounge event.
Events are free to the public. This is a DIY, crowd-participation event and we've got DJs coming from LA, artists coming from LV and Sacramento, so I'm telling you it's BIG.
Last year we had 1000 people come through the Cortez. This year.......?

Dark Skies Arts Festival - Workshop Leaders Wanted

The Dark Skies Arts Festival is looking for a few talented fire performers who are willing to hold a couple of workshops during the festival, performing in the evening, and who are willing to have a fabulous time hanging out at the Southern Nevada regional burn. We have a very limited number of free/artist tickets available to select fire professionals by participating at Dark Skies. It's all happening June 19 to 22 in Meadview AZ. Just 107 miles east of Las Vegas. Dark Skies is being held on 80 acres of private land in a beautiful joshua tree forest
Currently we need the following workshops covered: Fire safety, intermediate and advanced poi, and all levels of contact staff. Other fire toys are welcome too. Greetings earthlings! Yuri's Night is GO... IN SPACE!

Recently one of our friends inquired if they could get free admission if they were performing outside at Yuri's Night. Because this is a fund raiser for art installations Zsu Zsu and Jackbot, we do ask that you contribute to our cause IF you choose to come indoors. Since the event producers have shelled out cash for both the open flame and special use permits and there is no charge for enjoying the outdoor events, we hope that you feel welcome to perform and dazzle the crowd that we provide. We've made every effort to keep the ticket prices at a low $10 in advance and $12 the day of the event.

There is a way to get in free:

1. Attend the final Mission Critical Planning Mixer tonight (Friday) at Bliss at 535 E. 4th Street
AND
2. Show up at 1:00 PM on Saturday, the day of the event, and volunteer to help us set up, decorate, bring stuff, massage and feed the worker bees, you know... stuff.

If you can do #1 but not #2, feel free to bring a little cash to the mixer for the last of the discount tickets.

Controlled Burn to Offer Intermediate Spinning Classes

(Reno, NV) Controlled Burn, Northern Nevada's Premier Fire Performance Group, is offering 3 classes to be taught by expert fire performer Lester from FireGroove (www.firegroove.com). There will be 3 classes held: intermediate/advanced poi , intermediate/advanced staff , and double staves. The classes will take place Saturday, March 29th, 2008 at Horseman's Park (located at 2800 Skyline Blvd, Reno). Costs for the class are $25 for a single class, $40 for two classes, and $50 for all three. Proceeds from the classes will cover costs of travel for the instructor and help to further Controlled Burn's ability to remain a community organization.
"We are very excited to be having Lester here to teach intermediate and advanced classes," states Carlyn Perona, Educational Director for Controlled Burn. "Lester is an expert in fire spinning and we look forward to taking the class ourselves to further our abilities as well as being able to pass this amazing opportunity on to everyone in our community."

Well it’s official, Cody and I have sold our house and are moving out. Hopefully it won’t be too long till we finish buying the new house.

I know it’s late notice but, WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! Cody and I are trying to empty out the house this weekend. I promise it will be an easy move. We have a single story house and have rented a container for all of our furniture that is in our driveway.

Looking for Burners to rent to

I have two apartment buildings I am cleaning up in the middle of downtown Reno (across the street from the Siena parking lot). Eventually I want to get solar energy, a green roof, murals painted, a coffee shop started, and a community garden in the courtyard, but the first step was to kick out all the meth heads which, after much effort, I did and now it's on to getting good (i.e. interesting/cool, etc, can pay rent, won't burn down my place making a meth lab, eclectic,etc) renters in there.

There are two buildings on the property (one from 1902 and the other from 1925) and have a lot of potential and I would love this to be a cornerstone on cleaning up this part of downtown and getting a scene started there. The rent is: studio $650 (utilities included) and one bedroom $750 so if you know of anyone who may be interested please pass this along.

On another note, I'm really looking forward to seeing many of you at the club for the Shiva Vista Project!

the fire flier is in my pics and we have over 20 fire dancers confirmed so far, 4 decorated fire barrles, a heated shelter and dj booth/groove space, fire visuals everywhere and lots of fire!

Controlled Burn to Offer 6 Week Skillz Training Class

We are now offering more structured curriculum that will allow you to become a great spinner! Our first session begins Wednesday, January 9th at 6pm to 7pm. We will be instructing you on poi, staff and devil stix. The class goes from Wednesday, January 9th and repeats itself every Wednesday from 6-7pm until February 13th. The 6 week training course is $50. If you drop in during our classes, the charge is $10 per session. We will be holding these classes at North Valleys High School. If interested, we strongly encourage you to pre-register on our website at www.controlledburnreno.com. Registration for Devil Stix is required. You must be 18 or over, or have your parent or guardian attend the first class to sign a waiver and the safety class to learn to be your personal safety.

Munz Amplified Poi Screen

I was brunching with robotic genius, Chris Munz today and he shared with me an idea for Yuri's Night that made me want to run home and tattle to y'all...

If we took a couple of those LED poi balls, cracked them open and replaced them with Infra Red LED's, he could put you behind an interactive screen with an IR camera on you, then track the balls with his computer and project a new image back on the screen and over your silhouette complete with trails, fire, colors, the possibilities are staggering.

We will be able to park a fuel-containing vehicle just behind the Northstar Club. The plan is to unload tools, etc... Into the Village Lounge around 5-ish. Fuel will be all in one vehicle (Our Exploder has lots of room, or something...) and park close by. 30 minutes prior to show time, we will move tools from the Lounge. 15 minutes prior to show time, we will cart fuel (Mark is going to have a fuel dump and space on a wagon for us) to the performance place. We will perform, and then return tools to lounge and fuel to car(tentatively). We must have someone at the performance site for 30 minutes after each performance on fire watch. (I can't imagine we'll take less than 30 to clean up, but just FYI.)
Rinse and repeat.

Remember: *Wear good shoes!
*When lit up, please stay 10 feet from the audience at all times. This is a stipulation of our permit, and the fire dept. WILL be there.
*White and red costume (or, variations on the 'Fire & Ice' theme)
*Also, just a reminder that the entire time you are at Northstar, you will be dressed as and recognizable as a member of Controlled Burn, and all of your actions are highly visible and reflect upon the rest of the group (read: don't be an asshat.)

Controlled Burn to Offer a Full Day Fire Skills Workshop

(Reno, NV) Controlled Burn, the cutting edge fire spinning performance group, will be offering a full day skills workshop on Sunday, November 11th, 2007 from 10am to 6pm in order to provide a more intense teaching experience. (The exact location will be provided upon registration.)

This workshop will offer smaller class sizes which will allow for a more personalized learning experience. There will be classes offered for all levels of poi and staff spinning. Controlled Burn will also be offering tool-making workshops so those interested can learn to make their own custom-made tools.

"We are extremely excited to be able to offer this workshop to our community," states Leilani Macedo Director of Business for Controlled Burn. "With our regular classes being so popular, this will allow people to learn skills at all different levels of experience and to get a more one-on-one feel."

Everyone is invitied to attend the fire skills workshop on Sunday, November 11th, from 10am to 6pm. The cost for registration is $50 per person including lunch. The schedule of workshops is as follows:

NV Day Parade Sat Oct 27

Before I get to the Parade info, I want to tell about
the 2 day Burner Bonus party w/camping that goes along
with the package!

They welcomed my idea to be our host, for our NV day
weekend needs! This is our Bonus we haven't had in
previous years. Thanks! The property is large.
Vehicle camping in front (bus and RV OK), tent camping
in back, party in the middle!

Friday night party for the folks that want to arrive a
day early to be prepared for
Sat(logistics/prestaging/set up camp/party,out of
towns). Even if your not camping it is okay to stop
by! Most likely a low key party (ya right). Gate opens
at 5pm, party gets going after dark.
If you need early arrival before 5PM call me to make
arrangements.

Saturday after the Parade, It is a good time to get
every body's cars to the party site then car pool back
downtown, if desired. Driving on Sat is high risk and
parking is extremely limited. Some folks will stay
downtown for an hour or two before going to the burner
bonus party. When you decide to get off the downtown
streets, the party should be going pretty good.
Camping is encouraged.

This is a bring your own booze and potluck friendly
event.
Someone please bring some fire wood if you have it.

The Parade info:

The Theme this year is "Mysteries of Nevada Area 51"

Reno, Carson, Tahoe, Minden and Gardnerville area
Black Rock Citizens, are welcome to participate!

Rules:
Everyone in the parade must be in a "costume" relating
to the Theme!! (such as aliens, men in black, secret
airbase uniforms, fire suits, astronauts, black bikes,
flying saucers and things mysterious and
indescribable). Family friendly of course. Expect to
walk, skip, dance, stilt or bike your way down the
street. Hula hoops, Poi and Staff streamers are OK

Four mutant vehicles for the parade have been chosen
so far. Additional MV's are by approval. Flying saucer
type MV are preferred.

The way it has gone in the past:
Call time is between 8:00 and 9:00am on Saturday Oct,
27Th. Meeting Location has not been assigned yet.
Expect another email with meeting spot.

Parade runs 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

We don't enter the Parade until well after 10:am so
you have some leeway if your running late.

If your there early, no worries, the Preparade meet
and greet gathering is a Hoot!

The Plan:
We have two Parade entries this year.
Burning Man and Controlled burn!

Our parade Shin Danger Ranger is bringing two MV's
down form Gerlach. Names of the vehicles to follow.

downtown are going to be pitched to NV day committee
in Oct. Following Dave Controlled Burn then,

This MV with its most excellent sound system will
provide a crowd pleasing atmosphere for us to dance
to! We might need to "pass the hat" to offset their MV
expenses.

You can see this MV at the Decomposition party Oct
20Th! Please encourage them to keep their MV active
for another week and participate in the NV Day Parade!

Johnno and Osh will be our DJ's for the NV day
parade! MV provided by dj T dub and his group.
In case "The NeuroWeapon" falls thew, we will use
Johnno's sound system and put it on Dave's truck.

If your a "fire performer" you must have a Nevada
State Fire Marshal Card and Clowns of America Ins. or
Equal in order to perform with CB.

The NV Day Parade is a good time! Ask around, It is
worth coming too. I look forward to it.

October 24th class and practice cancelled

We must postpone class and practice (and dinner following practice at Twin Dragon) until next week due to a minor, but hugely inconvenient (messy) incident at North Valleys High School: something to do with a bathroom, some smoke, some flooding -- you get the idea, you were in high school once.

Some of Controlled Burn will be participating this weekend in the Blood Moon Festival in Sacramento and others in the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City. Look to our website at controlledburnreno.com for details. We hope to see you in the crowds this weekend, or again next week for our regularly scheduled program.

Computer Recycling Event

The leaves are changing, there a clean crisp nip in the air. That means it is Fall Cleaning Time. Yea! During the cleaning process many of us find things that we don’t need anymore but doesn’t belong in a landfill. We can try Freecycle, but it if it is really broken, no one else wants it, so we don’t know what to do with it. One of the biggest problems is trying to environmentally dispose of old computer products. I received this the other day and thought I would pass it on for those of you who have old computer products taking up space and need to find someone to take them off your hands.

calling for HELP?

Titwi/Kurt and I were wondering if anyone would be willing??? to help us organize a Clean up party (not BM stuff or Dust removal) Our new house has a big back yard full of dead sage brush and misc crapola from the previous tenant.
We are thinking of renting a 5 yard dumpster and just getting rid of it, instead of hauling it out to the dump which would be just as pricey as dumpster.

We will feed and drink and sleepover any and all help. We would even need thoughs people who cant lift stuff for party support!

We are thinking maybe Sept 29-30th?

Any idea's welcome or if other dates are better also helpful.

Was trying to stay away from Sept 7th S.F. Decomp. and Oct 20th Reno decomp.

I will be putting this out on tribe Reno burners etc... as well.
Please, I know not a very humble way to say HELPPPPPPPPPP but we need some.

Good Day, my name is Serita M. Wesley; I am a casting producer with the ABC Documentary Series “Wife Swap”. I am currently in the process of looking for fire arts performers and their families to feature on our 4th and 5th season. My thought process behind this outreach is as follows; ideally we always look for people with very interesting professions and professions that are not commonly featured on television. Poi and other fire arts performers, I would imagine are very artistic and eclectic people, who are not afraid to be themselves, enjoy performing and more than likely would encourage their children to follow their hearts with whatever it is they wish to pursue in life. It is not my intention to solicit any of your member information, I am merely asking that if you know of anyone you would like to refer you can either contact me wit their information or have them contact me directly. Perhaps you could create a posting under the general information section of your website or you could distribute a mass email and have people contact me as they wish. Just in case you are not familiar with the show, allow me to give you the basics…

* We air every Monday night at 8 pm on ABC.

* The main requirements for the show are- must be a two parent family with at least one child in the home between 7 and 17 years of age.

* Wife Swap is a 10 to 11 day taping commitment. Mom will be gone for 7 or 8 days during this time.

* The process involves filling out an application and making an audition tape. If we think you are a good family for Wife Swap, we will begin to look for a match for you and come to visit your family for an afternoon to make a tape that will be edited and presented to the network.

* Each family that participates in the program will receive a $20,000 honorarium upon airing of the episode and anyone who refers a family that makes it on to the show will receive a $1,000 finder’s reward.

The folks at TV Free Burning Man are once again taking over the
airwaves at Current TV to bring you the Burning Man After Burn
Weekend – 2 and a half hours of continuous coverage form Burning Man
2007. It all starts Saturday Sept. 22 at 7PM PST (10PM EST). A full
hour of TV Free Burning Man pods will be followed at 8PM PST by the
rebroadcast of the burning of The Man. Then, at 9PM PST, it’s the
world premiere of TV Free Burning Man’s complete coverage of the
Crude Awakening burn.

So pull out your playa gear, pull up a comfy chair, and settle in for
a 2 and ½ hour flashback to Black Rock City. Then entire block of
coverage will be rebroadcast on Sunday Sept. 23 at 7PM PST in case

Truckee River Clean-up - September 29th

I wanted to let you know that The Truckee River Clean-up is coming up next Saturday in case you wanted to help clean up our beautiful river. It is such a benefit to the river and is actually great family fun. After the clean up will be a BBQ at Rock Park. This year I am a leader at Ambrose Park which is on River Lane which is off Fenno Way off Mayberry Drive between McCarren and Dorostkar Park. Being a leader means I get manage the sign in sheet, hand out trash bags and give out the BBQ tickets . Come out and work Ambrose with me or sign up for one of the other parks. There is plenty of fun to go all up and down the river.

Just want to give a big thanx to Controlled Burn for including me as a performer in the inner circle at Burning Man this year. I appreciate that though I left my dear pyro friends of Reno, I retained my CB member perk performing in the circle. Wish I could have been around more and provided more of a helping hand for all you schweaty dust bunnies out there. You guys are great! Shiva Vista was amazing! What a spectacle to see my small platform idea for the Rock Opera of '06 turn into something so huge and evolve yet again for '07 with the ambitions of RyanO and Donna and now so many more kind and helpfull people who all shared a dream. Who knew? Thank You to everyone who helped Controlled Burn directly and indirectly. I have had the rare and wonderfull opportunity of performing every year at the Man thanx to CB and I will always remember that. Favors will be greatfully retuned! The group has evolved so much in the last four years, don't stop!

I cant find my poi from Wednesday night practice/community burn at horsemans Park...they were in my tool bucket sitting behind the white board, perhaps did someone "borrow" them and then when trying to return them find that we had already left??? No harm no foul, just PLEASEEEEEEEEE can you contact me so I can come get them! I desperately need them for Burningman, and its way to late to order a new pair in time!!!
oh please oh please! I beg of the universe to return them to their home. I made them myself, their very sentimental to me. Plus I thought I might spin at my wedding out there...?

OFFICIAL RULES and REGULATIONS

No purchase necessary to enter. Open to residents of all countries, and all ages. Contest to be held at Burning Man on Thursday, August 30th, 2007 from 10:30 pm to 12:30 am at the Shiva Vista Project Stage. E-mailed entries must be received before midnight PST on August 22, 2007. Mail-in entries must be received by August 22, 2007. On-the-playa entries will be taken on a first come, first serve basis, and are limited to space availability.

Theme: A parody of the T.V. show “American Idol,” Fire Performers will compete for Fire Trophies by surviving their elimination round, only to come face to face with our three Fire Idol Judges in round two.

Contest Description:

First Round: will consist of 2 to 4 contestants performing with fire (with the fire tool of their choice) on stage, simultaneously, for approximately 1-1/2 minutes. One person from each grouping will be chosen by our judging panel to advance to the second round. Each judge will also have one “wild card” to advance a person of their choice forward who would have otherwise been eliminated. Tie-breakers will be decided by the Contest Announcer.

Second Round: will consist of a solo performer with the fire tool of their choice. Each solo artist will perform for approximately 2 minutes before coming face-to-face with our Contest Judges. Each judge will be allowed a small amount of time to critique the artist’s performance. Each judge will then choose the top three winners, with audience participation as needed.

Contest sponsors will provide all music for both rounds. Note: Music for second round will be extremely challenging.

Judging: Contest winners will be selected by our three-member Judging Panel, as well as by audience participation if requested. All decisions of the Contest Judges are final. Employees and Family Members of Fire by Trick Concepts, Los Angeles Fire Effects, and DarkStep Productions are ineligible.

Contest Rules: Participation is limited to 64 people. Entries are chosen by first-come, first serve until limit is reached. Each contest participant consents to having his/her photo and name (or nickname) displayed on the Fire by Trick Concepts website on the Front Page and/or in the Photo Gallery. The contest Sponsors (Fire by Trick Concepts, Los Angeles Fire Effects, and DarkStep Productions), Judges, and Volunteers are not liable for injury, loss, or damage of any kind to persons, clothing, tools, etc… resulting from the acceptance of participation in this contest. Not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, or illegible entries, or entries containing incorrect information. Not responsible for any problems or technical malfunctions of The Shiva Vista Stage or sound system. Your entry into this contest is consent that these stipulations have been met, and that you agree to these and all contest rules and regulations.

Burner in need of a tow

I'm cross posting this from the burning man tribe.
If someone is looking to get some gas money for the trip this might be a good opportunity

i live in fallon, so the haul would not be that far from burningman. does anybody have a truck they are driving to bman and that is not already hauling something, that they could accomodate my rig? it's about 15 ft long. i have 2 grown kids that want to attend bman for the first time, and one has major health issues, and i'd like to have him in as protected an environment as possible.
i've called all the reno truck rentals and everybody's sold out to burners.
i'll pay for gas, etc.
