I have to admit its been my not-so-secret dream to work with Elvira someday and I just can't believe that it's about to come true- beginning next weekend! It's fairly obvious that I adore her. So much of what I do was inspired by watching her hostess horror movies on television when I was a wee queen. I was obsessed with Elvira and Pee Wee Herman all through the 80's. Ironically, I had no idea that the actors playing these drag icons were super close friends in real life. Cassandra Peterson and Paul Reubens are two people on my Midnight Mass special guest wish list. I figure now that we've booked Cassandra for the opening weekend, I'll have to work on getting Paul for next summer's Mass (our tenth season).

I'm nervous. I hope she likes me. I hope everything goes well. I desperately want her to be nice. I want us to be friends.

THE SISTERS OF MERC-LEE SIMPSON!!!

MC2 and I went to see The Sisters Of Mercy last night at The Warfield.
What a DISAPPOINTMENT.
They were obviously singing to a DAT track.
They fogged the place up so much, you could barely see them.
The first half of the show, being several feet from the stage, we
were caught in some sound vortex, could not make out the lead
vocals.
Barely, only to thank the audience twice, spoke to the crowd.
What a let down after being such a fan for many, many, years.
Anyone else go???

Hey all,
I have the fortunate opportunity to perform with some great
Bay Area performers.
Having the gift of being able to schedule performers at two
venues in SF humbles me, but what is missing sometimes
is the lack of support that local talent receives.
I usually bash a lot of no talent, mega millionaire (spell check),
crap bands and singers, but aside from that, I had the pleasure
of having Zodiac Death Valley perform at Martuni's yesterday.
The band consists of Nate and Nick, their incredible talents
are amazing.
I know Nate from Harvey's, and he is a great guy.
If you ever see them on the bill somewhere, do yourself a favor
and check them out.

Moments that were indelible:

1. As many times as I've seen Loveless out in public and on-stage, I've only seen the "cupie-doll" look -- with the double set of lashes and the mod-60s kind of look. Do you know that I was outside talking with Monistat and Loveless joined the conversation and I didn't know who she was ... until she performed and her name was announced. THAT is what a little chameleon she is. And I LOVED her two numbers ... she's so subtle, too -- those numbers could have been ruined with too much business, but she kept them poignant and true to the lyrics. BEAUTIFUL!

2. The shooting jizz was a riot.

3. Salon keeps getting prettier and prettier. I was standing next to her brother during her song and we were both surprised by how goooooorrrrrggggeeeouuus she has become.

4. Glamamore. Is. Brilliant.

What's up with the electrical situation, Cookie? You'd think after the fire during the days of Elephant Walk and the rebuilding ... and the second fire at that location ... that the wiring would be beyond reproach, but I guess not. Very odd. At least you had sound all night long.
