Another reason Microsoft sucks

As technology advisor to Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and director of the state’s Information Technology Division (ITD) since 2002, Mr. Quinn had spearheaded a drive to make the state’s information systems use an open data format. He also ran into controversy over his plan.
He announced the plan in September and said that beginning on January 1, 2007, all electronic documents created by state agencies had to be in OpenDocument Format (ODF), an open source data format used in OpenOffice.org and Sun Microsystems’ StarOffice 8 (see Sun Readies New StarOffice).
Microsoft called the plan “inconsistent and discriminatory” and lobbied against it.

hey, "embrace and extend" is what ms is all about. they don't want to kill open doc standards, they want to help it along! =)

They even are trying to get Quinn fired by sicking budget oversight watchdogs in on it. Dredging anything they can on the guy, lucky for him he's clean and his boss is behind him.
