Wow that was really cool, i can understand why some people accuse you of being choreographed, but they cannot say that anymore...you were dancing to live drum, and its a case of whatever the drummer decides!
You all dance very well together, and because you know each other so well, it comes across wonderfully in your improvisation.

Is choreographed a bad thing? I don't think so. Ofcourse there are ATS rules, but I've read somewhere that even FCBD sometimes uses choreo....read=sometimes.

no its not a bad thing - but we see a lot of tribal troupes over here that claim to be improvised but in fact are choreographed. We are proud to be improvised and developing our own combinations. I always thought unmata were 100% improv but in a recent interview they said they were 50% choreo:50% improv

I agree that choreographed is not a bad thing, i've only ever danced to a choreography at Hafla's, but i was merely pointing out that Covert Bling are improvised tribal dancer's, but as they are so good they get accused of being choreographed, even thought its not the case, and that the Live Drum Improvisation that they did at the swindon hafla, should put an end to the those comments.

As Emma pointed out there are some tribal groups that are not honest, and claim to be something they are not.
It doesn't matter what dancer's do, as long as they are honest about their inspiration, and methods, so that when there is a group that dance well improvised, they get the credit they deserve.
Its the same for drum solo's, some are choreographed, and look great for it, but when a dancer gets up, and improvises, thinking on their feet if you like, well thats a wonderfull skill, and they should get credit for doing it

Cor, yay for us! I don't think any one of us really minds if people ask if we're choreographed, I'm sure they just don't believe us when we say we're not. So it's very cool to get this bit of footage with the drummers. The drummers were good - I wouldn't claim a psychic link but we were following them and they followed us in equal measure so that was very enjoyable.

Does anyone object if I put the link up on my new website?

I posted 2 videos on Facebook group Lets bellydance Reading and Basingstoke, one of Sara's performance and one of Covert Bling, I was sitting right in the centre at the Swindon Hafla so had a good view point. I enjoyed the performance, you looked very confident and powerful, well done.

Its a good thing right, being so good people think is choreo!
I've seen the Unmata live, and the are so fast that you will start to think is this possible to improvise?? But ofcours its possible, its like whe all know, not just one move, its a combo, so the know what comes next....and ofcourse a little bit of choreo....
I only dance choreo....not good enough yet to improv, and ofcourse fusion is not easy for improv...or am I wrong? what do you think? Is Improv a ATS thing only?

I think its possible to improv anything, although obviously the look will always be different. Improv may not always allow you to recognise all the instruments and layers in the music at once or give you time to reflect them in your dance, but I'm sure its possible to some extent. It's what I'm aiming for in the future anyways!

My ladies - including Lou lou - will be 100% improvised on Saturday, although they do know the music fairly well. Wish them luck - its their first performance to the outside world !

Hope it went well on Saturday - Improv is frightening when there are others following what you're doing! At least as a soloist you can just go with the flow and not have to worry about anyone else.
