Bracelet found in chicken gizzard after 25 years

Now this is amazing:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071130/ap_on_fe_st/odd_bracelet_chicken_3

FAIRMONT, Minn. - It won't fit him anymore, but a Massachusetts man has his metal identity bracelet back after it was found inside a chicken gizzard in this southern Minnesota city — more than 25 years after he lost it in his grandfather's barn.

Aaron Giles, 31, of Gloucester, Mass., lived in Fairmont as a child and played hide-and-seek and other games with his brothers in their grandfather's barn near Sherburn.

"I would spend most of my time out at his farm and that's the only place I can think of that I would have lost it," Giles said Thursday, adding that he thinks it was lost when he was 4 or 5 years old.

The barn was dismantled a few years ago, and the materials were used to construct another barn in rural Elmore, about 45 miles away, he said. Giles thinks his bracelet was imbedded in the barn materials when they were moved.

Workers at Olson Locker in Fairmont were cutting the meat of chickens that came from an Elmore farm when one of them, Brittany McDonald, came across a shiny object in a chicken gizzard. McDonald, whose grandfather owns the locker, saw Aaron's name, address and phone number engraved on it.

"It's the strangest story that I have ever heard in the meat locker business," said Mark Olson, McDonald's grandfather. "I've heard of livestock swallowing unusual objects, but this situation stands out."

Olson was able to track down Giles' father, Doug, who had moved to Arizona. Giles says he received his old bracelet in September.

"It was in pretty immaculate shape. Everything was working on it, and all the engravings on it were still legible," Giles said. "It was quite the surprise."

Giles said he expects the bracelet to stay in his family for many years to come. "I have no plans on trying to lose it again," he said.

Big, Big Bug

Wowza! Big and old.
http://www6.comcast.net/news/articles/science/2007/11/21/Biggest.Bug.Ever/

LONDON —

This was a bug you couldn't swat and definitely couldn't step on. British scientists have stumbled across a fossilized claw, part of an ancient sea scorpion, that is of such large proportion it would make the entire creature the biggest bug ever.

How big? Bigger than you, and at 8 feet long as big as some Smart cars.

The discovery in 390-million-year-old rocks suggests that spiders, insects, crabs and similar creatures were far larger in the past than previously thought, said Simon Braddy, a University of Bristol paleontologist and one of the study's three authors.

"This is an amazing discovery," he said Tuesday.

I thought this was the best place to say that right now.........even with all the crap going on in the world and even though I'm having a bit of a trying time with my kids........in spite all of that, I'm feeling very appreciated and loved and acknowledged. I wish I could feel this way every day. Days like this are very, very, very good.

So, for now, I'm thankful and happy and I'm passing along the love and appreciation.

I usually don't groove on these emails that go around with inspirational messages... but this one goes with a picture I just had to post here, so I am.

As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that
wasn't supposed to ever let you down probably will. You
will have your heart broken probably more than once and
it's harder every time. You'll break hearts too, so
remember how it felt when yours was broken. You'll fight
with your best friend. You'll blame a new love for things
an old one did. You'll cry because time is passing too fast,
and you'll eventually lose someone you love. So take too
many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you've never
been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset
is a minute of happiness you'll never get back. Don't be
afraid that your life will end, be afraid that it will never
begin.

So send this to all of your friends (and me) in the next
5 minutes and a miracle will happen tonight

Live simply. Love generously.
Care deeply. Speak kindly.
Leave the rest to God.

(so instead of sending to all my friends I posted here for my friends here...a bit more low maintenance, that's all I can do today. So perhaps I'll receive simply a low maintenance miracle.)

Enjoy.

My favorite parking spot in the shade - always waiting for me when I go to run errands
The shopkeepers visiting each other and having their lunch in each others' shops
The plethora of locally handmade (yet affordable) items for purchase
The simplicity of having less choices - saves a lot of time when shopping around!
The polite drivers
The waving and smiling and hellos
The shop dogs and cats
the dogs walking around with their owners
the smell of good food cooking
the friendly librarians and the awesome book sale
the amazingly helpful store clerks at the clothing stores
the sweet folks at the thrift stores who make me smile
the generous wealthier people who give away expensive new clothes and other items to the thrift stores and library book sale! Seems most who have second homes here actually care about the community here, and being a part of it.
the siamese cat who plays down by the river
the artists who keep bugging me to have them over to see my art
the feeling that someone isn't always waiting to steal your stuff
Driving behind a truck with a bumper sticker that says I heart spinach.

That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world

http://www.messiahlutheransterling.org/symbol24.asp

The symbol of ST. JOHN is the eagle, because from first to last his Gospel soars on eagle's wings to the very throne of heaven. The figures near the bottom of each window are merely decorative.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:1-14, NKJV).

Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” (John 20:17, NIV).

This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true. Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. (John 21:24-25, ESV).

she was telling me of her meeting with her step-mother's great-grandparents, which makes them her great-great grandparents...who are 97 and 98 respectively (the lady is the elder apparently).

I asked her if they were nice and if she had had a good time, to which she responed 'oh yea I guess..." then she paused for a moment and continued on to say "they weren't very User-Friendly"....

i just about died! It was so funny...I commented that I hoped she didn't say that aloud to them, she said no she hadn't, it just came to her...

Can someone give me some advice on what to do about leg cramps. I don't get them very often, but when I do, boy are the doozies. I am limping for two or three days after ward. I always get them while I am sleeping (What a way to wake up).

What can I do to stop getting them, and what can I do to get over them if I do get one.

“Feel the Barbary!” opening at Theodor Suessador Gallery
Today July 6, 2007 - ?

Emerging Phoenix painter Barbary Barb is an artist and crafter whose self proclaimed favorite color is green. Her whimsical, edgy and bold style salutes and amends pop- and counter- culture imagery of pin-up posters, tattoo art, anime, and the iconic feminine.

This exhibit, juried by Barb’s on-line friends as a surprise party of sorts, showcases the work she has hand-picked to share with the tribe.net community over the past year or so. Fan art from the past and present will be viewable alongside Barbary paintings, collages and digital art. Viewers can continue to post contributions. Don’t miss new creative works by artists like Fang and Gilbert!

The Chapel of Sacred Mirrors (Alex Grey's temporary art gallery in NYC) needs your help. They want to expand from their current one floor apartment location to a 39 acre area that will be permanent, but the spot they found must be bought by next week! They are trying to raise $1.8 million. Please help this wonderful gallery and artist succeed in this goal. Do anything you can to help. If you've been to the gallery, you know why this is so important. If you haven't, shame on you!

Our favorite carry out place closed early tonight. He knew I was hungry, bored and getting restless. We didn't want to go out because he had eBay auctions ending, so he made me a lovely cheese omelette and brought it to me at my desk. Tomorrow we are meeting friends to go to a rock show, then stopping to buy flowers for the front flower bed. He knows nothing tickles me quite like beautiful rocks and playing in dirt!
(If I'm really lucky, I'll talk him into buying me a new lawnmower.)

What kind of music do you find amazing? We each have favorite groups, but what style really gets you going, sets sparks flying, makes your day turn amazing just by hearing a strain of it?

Coveting my EX husband...

...because I know ya'll want to...
This thread is hereby dedicated to Stupid Things Our Exes Have Done and/or Said. EX bosses, EX boy/girlfriends, EX neighbors, EX doctors, EX waitresses at your formerly favorite coffee shop...anything goes.

My EX husband was once replacing the radiator in our car. When it came time to cut the copper pipe, he had no hack saw. He opted to use a circular saw, and in the process cut the cord off the saw. I can't believe he didn't get electrocuted.

My EX doctor asked me where I worked, which was a senior assisted living apartment house. He mentioned that he has a patient who lived there. No biggie. He went on to mention not only her name, but that "she wouldn't have the lung troubles she has if she hadn't smoked for 40 years". All this while he had his hands in my...well....you know.

Next!

So...I've been thinking for a few days of a million ways to help my daughter and her boyfriend, so I thought I'd get some advice here. Things have changed a lot since the last time I had a baby. (Velcro diaper closures?? Hello?!)
What's the one thing that is the biggest expense? I suppose cribs, car seats and nice strollers fall into that category. What's the one baby thing you just couldn't do without?
I'm sure college is up there, too, but we're not in any position to start a trust fund yet!
Any suggestions?

I think a great way to get things going is just to do it, put things in motion and iron out the kinks as we go along. So...how about a really simple first contest to start?

I was thinking perhaps just a simple photo contest. Original photos taken by each member. Something amazing as photo subject. We could all vote on the winner and go from there.

What do you guys think?

keep your cat - amazing story

Cat saves family from poisonous fumes

April 6, 2007
NEW CASTLE, Ind. - A cat helped spare a family from death by carbon monoxide poisoning by jumping on the bed and meowing wildly as fumes filled the home, the owners said.

Eric and Cathy Keesling said their 14-year-old cat, Winnie, played a crucial role in saving their lives March 24 after a gasoline-powered water pump in their basement caused the odorless but deadly gas to build up.

About 1 a.m., the domestic shorthair began nudging Cathy’s ear and meowing loudly.

"It was a crazy meow, almost like she was screaming,” said Cathy, who hesitated to get up until Winnie’s caterwauling and jumping persisted.

When she finally climbed from bed, she realized she was nauseous and dizzy and couldn’t awaken her husband. Because he had undergone minor neck surgery the previous day, she decided to call 911 but was so disoriented she had trouble dialing.

Paramedics found the couple’s 14-year-old son, Michael, unconscious on the floor near his bedroom. The Keeslings were taken from the home in oxygen masks, treated for carbon monoxide poisoning and soon recovered.

Cathy Keesling said Winnie acted similarly last summer when tornadoes tore through the area, 45 miles east of Indianapolis.

“I really believe cats can sense these kind of things,” she said.

It is rumored that WalMart is phasing out their fabric departments. This was told to a friend of mine by a fabric counter clerk. She suggested calling 1-800-Walmart to complain. I don't know if it'll help, but it can't hurt. I'm sure someone among us would miss the $1 a yard selection.

Here's the agenda:

1 - Make the tribe amazing
2 - Everyone posts why they should be moderator
3 - New moderator is appointed on chosen date

Ready...go!
