Making your own Playsilks with Kool-Aid: Way cheaper than buying them already dyed and super less yucky chems with the Kool Aid, so if your little ones are big enough to help, they can!
Making your own board books: I've found that PK likes to go through her Dad's Bicycling Magazines, and My Cooking Light Magazines, plus we've gotten a few calendars of animals and whatnot. So I've been thinking about combining some of these images, along with our own photos of weekend outings into board books!

Is it as simple as I want to think it is?
What is the best fabric to use?
To me I would think somehow mixing fleece and t-shirt material. But I know I saw on on a website that they had a removable pad to make it extra absorbant. How would I fill something like that? More fleece? Some sort of stuffing?
When kiddos are teething are they less likely to contribute to the diaper rash that's common?

I know that my mom used cloth on me for a long time but that was 22 years ago and cloth diapers were a lot different.

And should I pattern it after the diapers they're using now and put elastic in the legs?
I would just trial and error, but I am just farking awful at sewing and if I don't have a complete plan of action, along with all my potential screw ups I'll never manage to get even one completed.

So, while little mister Cian was taking a nap, I laid him carefully on the paper and traced him. Then I colored it in to look like he did that day and dated it. Jimmy got a real kick out of it. I think it's a pretty cool memento for any parent.

And I've been on a real creative kick lately and just pumping out all kinds of strange ideas, my favorite at this moment is, by far, some sculptures I'm planning on making for the kids. I want to get some wire and plaster and make some things to hang on the wall, like, a mermaid, or a car, or a moon. I think the kids will really enjoy it and since I'm renting and can't paint, I can roll out the banner paper and put up a temporary mural behind it and make it fun and interesting. It'll sure look better than the wood paneling and floral wallpaper!

okay, I'm now finally on maternity leave, with a week before the girl is supposed to arrive.

I purchased this very cool flannel fabric, on sale from Jo-Ann fabrics (at 2.00 a yard!), and made some swaddle blankets by just cutting the fabric into 45 x 45 inch squares, and then finishing the sides with a zigzag stitch. With the remaining fabric, I planned on sewing some hemp terrycloth on to the leftover fabric, making some nice wipes and a few burp cloths, so I have a "rougher" side and a smoother side to the wipe, just like a few other wipes I had seen..

Well, I just made my first one. and it almost looks like a cross between a hat and a burrito. I call it "the frankenwipe". It will work, but it's reeealy sloppy looking and totally deformed. My two big mistakes:

1) The terry cloth is kinda stretchy, and I side stitched on that side - so I unwittingly pulled it out, effectively making the flannel bunch up.

2) I also used a regular foot, rather than a edger foot, so I had to eyeball where I was seam wise.

Tomorrow, I head back to Jo-Ann, and get a new foot and try again.
