I need help. I've been silk screening images onto fabric... I set the dried ink with an iron... and when I washed the fabric... the image washed out in some places and ran in the others. I've been using Versatex fabric ink. Does anyone have any experience with screen printing on fabric... what type of ink did you use... how did you set it? Thanks.

Re: silk screen HELP!
Sun, July 6, 2008 - 2:22 PMI use Speed Ball inks. They set pretty well and they don't run or wash out.

Re: silk screen HELP!
Tue, July 8, 2008 - 8:38 PMspeed ball inks are good for fabrics or you can continue to use your inks and add a catalyst/binder to it so the color adheres to the fabric.
Most commercial screen printers buy pure pigments and add the catalyst.
Try speedball ink
versatex inks
What type of fabric are you priting on? Many inks like speedball and versatex are primarily for cotton bases or cotton blends as most inks adhere to cottons best.
If you are trying to print on nylons or polys these inks will slide off in wash process.
You would need to get inks that are specfically formulated for synthetics - like wilflex, rutland etc
