You are not the only one I have seen this with, it is desturbing from my point of view that the prices for knitted or crocheted items tends to be very low.
I tend to get my prices by timesing the yarn cost by 3 to 12 times the yarn cost (the 12 is the solid pet toys I make from acrylic yarns, jingle bells, & super balls).

I have a business associate selling my hats online. 98% of my work is by hand. I am still working on keeping up with requests, I am even thinking about to take on an apprentice/partner.
So far I have found machines just don't cut it with the knitting specifics of my clientele. Not to mention that the only knitting machine shop near me is 2 1/2 to 3 hours away. So if the thing breaks down I have a long drive & the last time it took 6 months to get my machine back which is just not feesable to keep up with demand.
