Hey, Andrew,

Don't just tease us like this; let us know where the title comes from. I have never heard of the sacrum deescribed as the Immortal Bone.

Please enlighten me.

Thank in advance,
Dom

The Taoists call the sacrum the Immortal Bone and the eight holes imbedded within are known as the Baliao (Eight Immortal Caves). From a numerology standpoint, the eight holes must have been intriguing to the original Taoist sages (think I Ching and Ba Gua).

The sacrum connects the spinal marrow to the small brain (brainstem), and the upper brain to the marrow within the brain. Working with the sacrum generates qi and connects one to the Original Force, and is thus a major focus for those who seek immortality.

Hello, Andrew,

Not to be ungrateful, but could you cite some references for that of which you speak.

You have stated a Taoist origin for the name the Immortal Bone, and that, really is all that was needed. I am assuming that when you speak of marrow, you are also speaking of it in the Taoist terms, since, in Western, anatomical terms, there is no direct connection between the marrow and the brain. At least, there shouldn't be if the blood-brain barrier is intact.

As good as I am at craniosacral and Western medicine, it has been a few years since I have studied Chinese medicine, and I am quite hazy on many of the concepts. If you know of a reference that definitively connects craial techniques with Taoists practices, I would love to get it.

Yes, marrow in the Taoist sense equates to essence and not physical marrow. However, in western anatomy there IS a connection between the brain and the bone marrow. If you read the book " Molecules of Emotion" you can understand this more but here's the short of it: FSH is produced in the pituitary gland in the brain which stimulates estrogen production in the ovaries. Estrogen stimulates the megakaryocytes in bone marrow to produce platelets. Yes, we are all connected, modern science has told us so.
