Question: Sphenoid Bone and LI10 link

topic posted Mon, July 9, 2007 - 9:16 AM by  Dom
Hello, All,

I have been rereading Milne's book, The Heart of Listening, and he emntions that there is an energetic connection between the acupuncture point, Large Intestine 10, and the sphenoid bone. He does not elaborate.

Does anyone out there have more infomation or background on this? Does anyone out there use this connection? As we are ever trying to expand our knowledge, I would appreciate any illumination that is out there.

Thank you,
Dom

    Hey Dom,

This point (LI 10) is used to access the sphenoid bone. One hand contacts LI 10, the other hand holds the wrist at the radial/styloid processes. Evidently, you can unwind the sphenoid from here.

I actually posted about this (Unwinding the Sphenoid with Wrist Contact Only) and I believe that LI 10 is also involved.

Since the sphenoid bone is interwoven with many of the cranial nerves; and the large intestine meridian terminates at the nasal passages (LI 20) - i'm sure we can draw many correlations here.

LI 10 has the function of : Regulating Qi And Blood, Harmonizing the Intestines and Stomach, Activates The Channel , and Alleviates Pain.

It is also a "listening station" for the cranial pulse.

I have never used this hold for sphenoid work but will keep the option open...

    Andrew
