In October Creative Motion will be paring up with the Mystic Mutts and Moonpies Festival to get our twirl on! We did this last year and it was SO much fun! This is a FREE event benefiting the Weimaraner Rescue of North Texas and Conscious Crossings, Inc not to mention the sea of pet rescue groups that come out. There are vendors with all kinds of amazing treasures, cool people, precious pooches, live music, drumming groups, belly dancers, flying Frisbee dogs, contests, a pet psychic, food (veggie friendly!), and of course US!

If you’ve been coveting a Hula Hoop, Staff or Set of poi from Creative Motion, you’re in luck, we’ll be set up with our own booth this year and running the whirling fun in the center field! We’re inviting everyone out to support Creative Motion and the Mystic Mutts and Moonpies Festival. There are so many pets in need, and the event will be so much fun! Bring your toys and look for the Creative Motion Crew! We’ll be the life of the party! We always are.

***Gypsy is also looking for CM Circus volunteers to set the center field in MOTION. If interested in helping out please contact her ASAP to sign up.

Who/What: Creative Motion @ The Mystics Mutts and Moonpies Fourth Annual FREE Benefit Event. Check it out! It’s going to be a COSMIC EXPERIENCE!
When: October 11, 2008; 11am – 3pm
Where: White Rock Lake Park at the Stone Tables (near intersection of Lake Highlands Dr and Buckner Blvd)
Why: To Benefit all of our four legged furry friends and to have a BLAST!
Note: EVERYONE is invited!! Your leashed canine friends are welcome to join us too!

TELL YOUR FRIENDS!!

I got an offer/invitation to spin fire at a party in Austin on Fri. Sept. 12. I could definitely do this by myself, but I think it would be way cooler to have at least one other person spinning either at the same time or we could switch off. I am going to ask for at least enough $$ to pay for the trip (gas and lodging), and maybe a bit over that. If I can get someone else (you, dear reader) to come with, we can charge enough to compensate both. I am planning to bring a spotter for myself, and you are welcome to bring whomever you want. We can all ride together, etc. and we only have to show up to the party to spin, not stay at the party if there's something cooler to do in Austin.

Anyway, if you're interested, hit me up. We could definitely get together before and practice and stuff.

I was down in the Bishop Arts District recently, and found out about their monthly gallery nights. Apparently, on the first Thursday of each month, all of the shops stay open late and spill out into the streets in a sort of business-sponsored block party. From what I heard, the fun starts around 6 or 7pm and runs until around 10 or 11 at night.

If you haven't been down there, Bishop is a revitalized chunk of Oak Cliff which features impressive art galleries, tasty restaurants and little boutiques of all types. The people, both patrons and vendors, seem friendly and creatively-minded.

I thought it might be fun to take a group of roaming performers down to "First Thursday" at some point, in an informal manner similar to the meet up we had at Scarborough Faire. We could wander around, grab some dinner and make an entertaining nuisance* of ourselves.

It also seemed like a great way for Creative Motion to promote themselves with flyer handouts for upcoming SpinFests, so I figured I'd chuck the idea to the group.

Thoughts?

*From the general layout of the area, fire would most likely be off limits (historic buildings and fire make poor bedfellows). but I suspect, based on reactions to my wandering about with my spheres, that glowing toys would be more than welcomed.

They are looking for ppl to come perform and to attract a crowd. Even if you don't have an act please come out and support the cause. The network has been up and running for about six months and they need all the help they can get in getting the word out. I think this is an amazing service and would really like to see the Dallas burners come to Ft Worth :) I should be getting the time of the event monday and I will post the info then, I just thought I'd put feelers out there so you crazy kids could mark your calenders.

I’m talking feature length movie with a plot—not tutorial or how to videos. It doesn’t have to be the focus of the movie…just has to show up—making the edits cut. Name the movie and skill toy(s) and describe the scene that the toy makes it’s cameo. This is a fun little exercise that might turn into a Creative Motion mini event soon(ish) so let’s see what y’all’ve got!

Poi for contact sphere....diablo for hula hoop...staff for Juggling clubs, any combination of toys. Plus the doors that swapping can open are exciting. Think of the new things you can learn, and it's always good to try different styles of the same toy. You can trade with as many people as you like for as many toys as you like. Trade forever or until the next event. The Toy Swap will be happening at each SpinFest throughout the year.

Note: WE'RE CHANGING SOME THINGS UP, SO PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS, FRIENDS!

When: April 19, 2008 3pm-?
Where: WE'RE MOVING!! White Rock Lake Park--Bath House. http://www.watermelon-kid.com/places/wrl/tour/bathhouse.htm (links to Maps are at the bottom of the page)

Theme: Mad Hatter's Tea Party and Nonsense!!

"If I had a world of my own everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is because everything would be as it isn't. And contrary wise, what it is it wouldn't be and what it is it would, you see?"~Alice

What better way to enjoy nonsense than nonsensical things? This month's theme toasts a tea cup to Lewis Carroll and his wonderful world you'd find through the looking glass. We'll be having a costume contest, so dress as your favorite character, or make up a nonsensical one of your own that you might have found in Wonderland.

This months event will include a few extra goodies.
-We'll be having a TEA PARTY, of course. Bring tea party drinks and snacks to enjoy and share.

-As mentioned above, we'll be having a COSTUME CONTEST centered around the theme.

The judging for the contests will be at 5:00pm

-We'll also be having a "TEA CUP CONTEST" bring a unique tea cup that you've altered or decorated to enter in the contest. For some extra fun: This is a skill toy related event so keep that in mind for your cup.

-We'll be having our SKILL TOY SWAP again. For those that want to, bring a skill toy you are willing to swap with someone else. The possibilities are endless.

-And of course, the FOOD DRIVE. Bring non perishable food items or monetary donations for the CM food drive that we do at each month's SpinFest. Help us help others by donating with us to benefit the North Texas Food Bank in Dallas.

I posted this in the dfw fire tribe, but I know Creative Motion is the closest to a spin group there is. Basically, I'm looking for a poi spinning group that would be similar to a band: booking gigs and such. Do y'all do that?

Are there any existing fire conclaves/poi performace groups in DFW? I am kinda interested in joining up with a group who spins for fun and occasional profit.

I work for a public library, and this summer many libraries in Texas are looking for poi spinners since "Glow Poi" is a suggested program (Texas State Library gives ideas like that!). Anyway, I am doing a program for the libraries in Plano, but I'd love to branch out with a group and provide a great show for people across the metroplex (and maybe even all over Texas if it's lucrative). Let me know if there is a group I can contact, or if you'd be willing to establish a group with me.

Oh, and I am at an intermediate level with poi... I've actually not done fire yet, but after six months of spinning poi, I am advancing pretty quickly and practicing my arms off. I'd love to have opportunities to show off my new talent to people other than my cats!

p.s. - I really need to make it out to a Creative Motion Spin Fest ASAP.

OOOOK...so It's that time again. I'm supposed to be posting the new theme for this month's SpinFest. However...I see a few potential issues namely the fact that SF falls on easter weekend. However, I don't think that will be a huge issue, seeing as how Easter falls on a Sunday and the Bunny Rampage is the day before SF. Since WRLP has kinda become home base I checked to see if there were any events in our cozy nest, but I didn't see any. If you know of anything that I don't that might cause fatal issues, please let me know and I'll see what I can do to work around them.

Ok...but down to the poll....I have a new theme that will be loads of fun, however, seeing as how our PJ party got canceled and a wave of disappointment has been expressed to me about that we could redo that theme this month instead and save the new one for April. I'd like to take a poll.

January Location: White Rock Lake, Dallas, TX

January Times: 3pm-9pm (or whenever we finally go home) [[pending weather. If it’s cold we may either move inside if the facility is available or head off early for dinner and warm beverages at an IHOP or something. However I’m hoping for weather like this past Saturday’s!]]

January Theme: Traditionally the holiday season is when people get into the givng mood. We do for others and our hearts go out to the less fortunate. However, the holidays came and went and there are still less fortunate people in this world. Creative Motion is heading into 2008 focused helping hungry people—a problem that lasts all year long.

So! January’s SpinFest “theme” comes in the form of a food drive. This month Creative Motion reminds everyone to keep good deeds in motion with warm hearts. Bring caned foods and other nonperishable food stuffs when you come out and join us at SpinFest. January will be host to a lot of training, sharing and workshops as well as a few other fun follies. Come hang out with us at the first Spinfest of 2008 while we celebrate the enchanting world of skill toys and take care of our community.

**If you have ideas for fun skill toy related games let me know.
***Also I need a volunteer to handle music. –even someone with a portable stereo that wants to mix up and burn a few cds to keep us moving would be great help. The person I had lined up to dj bailed. He’s moving to China! Best of luck to him, eh? Anyway..I’m happy for him but it leaves me hangin’. I could use some help.

Anyway…

Come play. Everyone is invited!

When: Saturday; January 12, 2008, 3pm-9pm
Where: White Rock Lake, Dallas, Tx
Theme: Spin-Fun workshops and food drive!

Bring your glow toys too, it get’s dark around 6pm!

{{Reminder: this is a park event. Meaning it is NOT a FIRE event. I just want to be very clear. Bring practice toys; sock poi, flags, hula hoop, contact balls, unicycles, yo-yo…whatever. Save your wicks and fuel for another time and if you know of a location that Creative Motion can host a burn-jam let me know. In the meantime: park friendly toys, please. --And for pity-sake, please use common sense while you play. Keep it fun, safe and friendly for everyone.}}

Oh, and if anyone wants flyers to pass around or just have message me and I’ll send you a link to some you can print and cut out yourself.

Originally I posted this on the DFW Burner tribe...but I figured you all might appreciate this too. People are always asking "So what's Creative Motion" or "What's a SpinFest"....well...now y'all know.

_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~

Ok, so you all hear me mentioning Creative Motion this and SpinFest that but people keep asking me "What's that!?", Well I figured I'd take a second to introduce my brain child to the gang and shed some light on what it is I'm always talkin' about.

Creative Motion is a budding organization I've begun dedicated to introducing and sharing the enriching, creative, fun and healthy hobby of skill toys and various other kinds of expressive movement. It is a very rewarding hobby that benefits health, dexterity, balance and creativity.

There are many different kinds of skill toys; Hula hoop, poi, contact juggling, staff, flags, flower sticks and countless others that inspire movement, health, meditation, dance and expression.

SpinFest is a free event Creative Motion hosts on the third Saturday of each month in the DFW area to expose the public to the joy and benefits of skill toys and movement while serving as a great way to bring fellow enthusiasts together to learn from each other, socialize and showcase the skills they’ve been focusing on. SpinFest is a workshop, festival, and play date all rolled into one. We invite anyone and everyone to come join us, whether they are there to watch, learn, teach or simply enjoy the company of other spinners while they play. Creative Motion hosts an open environment to introduce and inspire the general public with everything that skill toys have to offer. SpinFest is designed to present people with a fun and exciting outlet for exercise and creative expression.

SpinFest saw it’s Debut on July 7, 2007; a date Creative Motion remembers affectionately as 7-7-7; it’s birthday. It was hot and humid. The location and attendance was horrible. However, that was the day that started everything. A lot was learned from that first event and a lot has been set in motion since then to make SpinFest Great. With time and resolve (and probably a donation and a volunteer or two) Creative Motion’s monthly SpinFest will no doubt evolve into something even more Amazing than we could ever imagine. An event that is fun, successful, and enlightening to be a festival of festivals for the skill toy and dance community. (“Plan it and they will come”)

So…

Come Play.

Everyone is invited!

December's Announcement!

Alright. People have been asking about December’s SpinFest and showing a lot of interest in Creative Motion. This makes me both excited and proud! It’s always exciting when people start to recognize what you are doing and a project you have poured so much of yourself into begins to take on a life of it’s own.

I have decided, with everything going on in December that instead of having a SpinFest this month we're going to start in January with the event on the third Saturday of every month. This gives Creative Motion the chance to build momentum and resources. We are still in need of a solid crew of volunteers as well as donations to make the festival bigger, better and stronger. Time will help us with that, but since there is defiantly an interest growing I have a lot of hope that once we get things going they will pick up nicely.

I am going to spend December Collecting: volunteers, donations, locations, supplies, guest headliners, hosts, and skill toy fans! Anything I can get my hands on for CM!

In the meantime, as always, I’m open to all of your ideas and suggestions regarding all aspects of the growing event. For instance Not Sure suggested the meeting room of the library where she works. There are oodles of libraries around the dfw area that have goodly sized meeting rooms and I'm sure I could find one willing to work with us in a more central part of dfw. A university gym or auditorium might be a good place to have an indoor SpinFest in some of the colder months (or some of the really hot months). I also fell in love with White Rock Lake park when we did the Mystics Mutts and Moonpies festival last month.

There is a LOT going on with CM and SpinFest even though not everyone sees it. VERY soon my website will go under construction and there will be a Creative Motion news letter and more. Be excited with me. You know you want to.

I'm sorry to any that were looking forward to SpinFest in Dec. It just makes sense to start strong at the first of 2008 and use the rest of 2007 to build resources, networking, awareness, and supplies for CM and the event itself. Especially since the first "Third Saturday" fell face first on Santa Rampage. If anyone is looking forward to SpinFest becoming a strong, established, monthly event the best way to do that is to come out, support, contribute and get involved in any way you can. I really, really need a solid group of reliable volunteers to help me build and maintain this event and help it grow and establish a strong momentum. I can not stress that enough.

I’m considering putting together a spin group associated with Creative Motion to help with SpinFest and do other things CM is getting involved with. Let me know if you might be interested in that.

If you are interested in anything I mentioned here or just want to get together to spin, message me with your contact info. Monkey and I are always looking for people to spin with and have impromptu "mini-spins" at the park on the weekends. Also if you know anywhere in the area to burn we're always on the lookout for places like that too.

If you would like to give a gift to Creative Motion this Winter Holiday to help her flourish and grow there will be a CM wish list posted on the website www.gypsyfyredance.com once that project gets underway. If you have something you think the festival might benefit from, let me know.

Final note—for those of you that wanted to get together and spin in December—There’s something you should know about Monkey and I…We generally can’t wait from one Spin Jam to the next…we need to get our spin on and we absolutely love doing that with other people. One weekend this month We’ll adopt the rampage idea from the Burners and scurry about town handing out flyers and spinning in all kinds of random places amongst good company and wowing passers by. Wanna come on the Spin Jampage? Let me know. I’ll be picking a weekend in the next couple of days to put that together. If we have fun—we’ll make a regular deal out of it. What better way to promote a fun event than to have a good time? (I’ll post more about this later)

Just talkin' about moves...

Today while I was at lunch I got my brain wrapped around the idea of moves and movement. I'm always empressed by the performers who's poi just seem to be an extension of themselves. --the specific tech is cool...but it empresses me less than a person that can really connect with their tool/toy and really groove with it.

While I was spinning I took a step back from practicing new moves or any moves in particular. Instead I let the poi flow and I'd let it lead my hand instead of trying to force it vise versa into a particular motion. the way the movement tugged at my hands felt awesome. THEN I started playing with force...and pulling it apart. I would start in a 3-beat weave and in the middle I'd pull my wrists apart. I could almost feel an invisible tie coming undone between them. Then I combined the two. I would pull my wrists apart and then let the movement of the poi direct my hands....it was a really eye opening exercise to gauge how fluid my body was (and sitting at a desk for so long had me pretty ridged) and helped loosen me up. It was also really awesome to EXPERIENCE the flow of the poi in a new way.

I'm in a fantastic mood, now.

Alright...for those of you that don't know SpinFest is going to be Monthly. The THIRD Saturday of every month (Starting in December since weekend 3 of November is Thanksgiving time) we will get together to Spin, Teach and Watch...generally just jam and get inspired. December being a winter month and all I'd like to be prepared...I'm thinking indoor location, assuming I can find one. Any Ideas?

I'll post more info about SpinFest itself later, in the meantime I'm trolling for ideas to pump up December's Fest!

ALSO It looks like Creative Motion will be called upon on a more frequent basis to help out with charities and other events. If you'd like to place your name on the list of people I call on to volenteer for these (I'm calling them Creative Motion Spinsterz), let me know. You don't have to have a skill toy mastered to join the CM ranks. The slightest interest in learning, an interest in helping out and/or the desire to play and have fun while doing good things works too. Just let me know. Just ask Button and Monkey--we really do have a blast!

AND I'm working on making our Booth/home base/ Camp look funky, cozy, artsy, and awesome--so if you have anything you'd like to contribute, please, don't hesitate!

anyway, as always, Thanks,

Hey Spinners, Drummers and Groovers!!!

This month is hectic so I’m having people come out to the Mystics, Mutts and Moonpies festival at white rock lake in Dallas on October 13th instead of just a jam on our own. Bring your toys and hang out while we groove to music and show love to our four legged friends. So come on out and hang with me and mine at the Creative Motion “camp”, spin to some tunes and help out the furries in need. It’s a pretty cool idea for a festival. She’s organized a “hoop-a-thon “to benefit various animal charities. I’m loving it! If you can go and would like to join me and the group of Spinsters helping me out send me a message or give me a call. I’ve got a new number (as of a couple of weeks ago) so if you need or want the new one just ask. Otherwise look for “Creative Motion” and be sure to say hi. For more information about the festival it self check out the website. www.mysticsmuttsandmoonpies.com

This is NOT a fire event, but please bring your day toys and a sense of adventure and come have a great time with us.

In OTHER Creative Motion Spin Fest news….plan for it the third Saturday of each month. The location will be bouncing around for a while, most likely, until we find a place that we all just fall in love with. Keep your eyes pealed for info in the Dallas Area: Skill toys in the park tribe. As always I hope to see you all there—spinners of all kinds, drummers, groovers, spectators, and everyone else. Everyone is welcome. In the meantime I hope everyone comes out to hang with us this Saturday, October 13th at the Mystics Mutts and Moonpies festival at White Rock Lake in Dallas. I can’t wait! It’s going to be such a fun and inspiring day!

ALSO, For those that wanted to help me with the charity festival but couldn't commit to practices NOTE: If you can commit to being there from 10am to 5pm Saturday the 13th you can help!! I'm treating the day like a spinfest sampler instead of having a group perform...'cause with my crazy schedule and everyone elses crazy schedule PLUS myschevia AND the fact that it's an all day event it just works better this way. SO...if this opens up a window for you PLEASE contact me. I need a few people that can volenteer to hang out help me and jinna out all day.

I love you guys! ...And as always...

I know it’s horrible timing, seeing as how so many of you are destined to be in the desert here shortly but the gypsy finds herself in NEED!

In need of a drummer and drum (or two) for this weekend, actually. I am helping out a friend by filling a performance spot this weekend at a renaissance faire in East Texas. It’s just a little thing, it’s second year running, but it could be a great deal of fun. I agreed to do a bit of hooping to help fill out the day but I need some help making it a real “jam”. So if you or anyone you know has got the drum groove down and you can do me a HUGE favor (an eternally greatful gypsy is definitely a treasure to be saught after, or some such thing) you’d have a mega gold star in my book. I can pay for gas or give you a ride down there if need be. Not to mention a weekend with a LOT of cool people.

So again the details:
BIIIIG favor for Gypsy
Drum and drummer that can get their groove thing on for atleast 15-20 minutes sat and sun.
Renaissance faire fun weekend.
Ride if needed (or gas money)
Cool People!

If you can help me out but don’t have ren garb…let me know, I’m sure we can put something together.

A friend of mine posted her pictures from Spin Fest on photo bucket. There will be more to come from my camera---I've just been kinda distracted.

Since I haven't posted about it:
Spin Fest was a fun day, though it was rather hot and humid durring the day, and we didn't have much of a turn out. A couple of my friends were sufforing from the heat so we went ahead and packed up early and went to rest. I did however, learn a lot of lessons about what to do differently. And while we were there we spun our hearts out.

Thanks to Lobo and a couple of other drummers that showed up we had a nice jam later in the day and a lot of passers by in the park came to see what we were all about.

If there is interest, I'll take what I learned from 777 and use it to organize another get together.

As promised; a link to pictures.

There are some great shots of the drums. I'll post some of my favorites in the tribe album soon...and the ones from my camera, too.

Thanks, again, to every one that came out.

Ok, so in previous posts I had talked about trying to put together a raffle for funding for the Spinfest--well, I'm happy to be announcing the prizes for said raffle.

There will be two seperate drawings.

The First is the "Friend's Prize" raffle. This is the drawing for prizes that even the non spinners can enjoy. Namely a hand crafted Chainmaile necklace designed by yours truely, There will also be a t-shirt with the SpinFest logo on it and a couple of other neat prizes given away in this drawing.

The Second is the "Spinner's Prize"!!!!! There will be a Gypsy ribbon hoop given away, a set of Dupe poi, and a SpinFest T-shirt. But get this--The grandprize of this drawing is a handy, stylish performance bag with a few glowsticks, a t-shirt and a one of a kind set of "Poi by Monkey" stuffed inside.

(who knows...a few other things might get thrown in for fun as well check the day of the festival as to the exact prize list)

Tickets for these are $2 and you can buy as many tickets as you'd like. The more times your name is in the drawing, the more likely you are to win.

Also--an important note:
Bottles of water will be availible durring the day for a $1 donation as long as they last. And Glowsticks will be availible in the evening for a $1 donation.

Remember that all of the money raised at SpinFest goes toward funding future Spinfests.

**if you have anything you'd like to donate for the spinfest raffle, it's not too late. Let me know**

The more I battle with figuring out how to play music via a stereo when I may or may not have relyable electricity access the more I really realize just how important it is to have a "back up plan". But to be honest...my favorite thing to spin/dance to is drums. Then I thought--duh, Gypsy, mix it up, girl! The sky is the limit! If we could get a drum circle together that would be beyond awesome. So if you play anything that makes noise---bring it out.

So--how about a drum circle head count....What kind of musick are we gunna make?
Tell your friends and let me know here who I can count on--of course when the day comes anyone that wants to can join...I just want to know if it's something i can rely on or not.
