Not a protest, but bound to be civil.

This is an easy ride that will open your eyes to little-known aspects of Berkeley architecture, history, and local culture.

5/12 Berkeley Bike Rodeo

Let's breed mannered cyclists...

The Bike Rodeo is Back!

Summer vacation is about to start, and the 5th Annual Bike Rodeo is a great chance for young people to practice their safe riding skills and learn some new tricks. The theme of the event, sponsored by the City of Berkeley Injury Prevention and Chronic Disease Prevention Programs, is “Live Smart! Eat Smart! Ride Smart!”

What: 5th Annual Bike Rodeo
When: May 12, 2007, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Where: San Pablo Park (2800 Park Street in Berkeley, between Sacramento and San Pablo)
Who: Everyone is invited
Cost: None

Young riders can practice their “rules of the road” in a mock city and in other skill challenges, such as the slow races and obstacle course. There will also be information tables and opportunities throughout the day to earn a free helmet. Helmets for children will be available the day at the event. The more activities kids participate in, the greater their chances of winning a raffle prize!

Bike safety is important to everyone in the community. This event is brought to you through a collaborating team which includes: Bicycle Friendly Berkeley Coalition, Berkeley Boosters, Frances Albrier Community Center, Safe Kids Coalition, San Pablo Park Neighborhood Council, Young Adult Project, Berkeley Police Department and the City of Berkeley Injury Prevention and Chronic Disease Prevention Programs. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

For more information, please contact Tasha Tervalon at (510) 981-5347 or e-mail ttervalon@ci.berkeley.ca.us

05-05-2007 - Community Garden Bike Tour: Where Do Organic Veggies Come From?

After surveying, smelling, and tasting the bounty of local organic farms at the Ferry Building Farmer's Market, we'll pedal through the streets towards three SF community gardens ending at the lovely Garden for the Environment (GFE) at 7th Ave. and Lawton. We'll arrive at the GFE in time for a short lecture on composting, chock full of the info you need to produce the "black gold" that is the basis of healthy soil for growing veggies, all the while saving money and preventing organic waste from ending up in the landfill. After that, it's time to enjoy the peace of the Garden. This joint project of the Garden for the Environment, the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, and SFGRO is FREE. Pre-registration is requested. Call the GFE at 415.731.5627 or email:info@gardenfortheenvironment.org to pre-register or for more information.

Meeting Place: Ferry Building, Embarcadero at Market; 9:00 am

Friday April 13th- We ride

Hey there-

Friday April 13th is our fifth ride. We meet on the second Friday of every month in front of the SF main library, on the Northeast corner of Grove & Larkin. We meet at 5:30 & set off around six.

So, bring your blinkies, your helmet, and your smiles and come join us for a fun urban bike ride.

Critical Manners: a revolutionary act of courtesy. Come put the nice back in the bike world with critical manners! A helmet-wearing, bell-ringing, blinkie-sportin', good time for you and all your bike friends. Practice synchronized signaling, single file riding, stopping at stop signs and NOT blowing red lights. Critical Manners will brake for pedestrians, trolleys, and even the occasional SUV. If you've ridden in Critical Mass, you know about the "testosterone brigade". Maybe it's time you rode with Critical Manners. We take obedience of the law ridiculously seriously.
