Freeform Crochet

topic posted Sun, August 6, 2006 - 9:12 PM by  Karen
I'm new to this tribe - I do regular crochet (easy stuff hehehehe) and I'd love to learn freeform. Are there any good sites out there?

Thanks in advance for your help cuz I know how helpful you tribe girls are :)

    Hi Karen,
There are sites - you can search under free form crochet or scrumbles. The best way is to just dive in. I use up my scrape of yarn and practice different stitches. I also combine different yarn weights and colors, I end up with a piece that has differrent textures and colors. Right now I'm working on a bag. I also mainly do easy stuff so free form is great for me because it hides my mistakes and not quite right stitches. Good luck

Ho-la! There is a great blog out there - called Woolly Wormhead (woollywormhead.blogspot.com) and she has some great ideas, including making crocheted spirals and sticking them together to make hats, bags, etc. I am also going to try her "turning plastic bags into yarn" idea, and might even take it one step further, like my friend Kim - she tried spinning black garbage bags. I think I will try to do grocery bags (seems less sticky), and then once they are spun, turn 'em into something (like a netted grocery bag! Arrr....there's Recycle, Reduce, Reuse for ya!)

Anyway - once I get the current project off my spinning wheel, I'll try this and post the results somewheres. (Sorry this got into Spinning and not just crocheting...I'll try to stay on topic better in the future!) :-)

      But good luck! :-D
