Waking Dream seeks giant puppet builders and performers

Waking Dream, the performance company that has brought giant puppets to Starwood for the last five years, is seeking artists interested in helping us build and perform new work at this year's Starwood, and at other regional gatherings this summer.

Experience not neccessary, however we are looking for people who have confidence making things and performing in front of people. Must be will to challenge ones self and be willing to perform in bizarre, sometime uncomfortable costumes.

Our studio and workshop is located in Greenwich, Connecticut, about 45 minutes from New York.

mini hiking/camping trip Sunday to Monday

all are welcome!

I don't think we'll be doing any burning, the forest rangers in the area are really observant and will come to the top of the mountain and kick us off at midnight (it's happened to me before)

this Sunday - Monday hiking and possibly an overnight if I can get someone else to stay out with me lol, going to be in the kent/cornwall area ... hope some can join! :)

message me if your interested :)
Dear Popular Culture Scholars,

You may have heard that the PCA/ACA has a new website at www.pcaaca.org
<http://www.pcaaca.org/ <http://www.pcaaca.org/> > . The site has all the
information you need to attend the National PCA/ACA 2008 Conference, held
this year at the San Francisco Marriott, San Francisco, California, March 19
– 22, 2008.

As you know, the PCA/ACA paper topic areas are broad and diverse,
encompassing business, entertainment, fashion, gender, body images,
ethnography, technology, science fiction, and more. Political, historical,
literary—essentially all approaches are welcome. Subject areas and the area
chairs are listed at our new website on page
http://www.pcaaca.org/areas/areas.php
<http://www.pcaaca.org/areas/areas.php>

Deadline for abstract submissions is November 30, 2007—so you still have
time!

The conference this year is at the San Francisco Marriot, a five-star hotel
in the heart of downtown San Francisco near all the attractions that city
has to offer. We have negotiated a wonderful $139 per night—an incredible
deal for a hotel such as this. In addition, the Bay Area Rail Transportation
(BART) runs from the San Francisco Airport to within a block of the hotel
and costs about $5.15 one way—an inexpensive, easy, and quick trip downtown.

Also, don’t forget that the PCA/ACA Endowment offers travel fellowships for
graduate students and early-career faculty. For more information, go to
http://www.pcaaca.org/grant/overview.php
<http://www.pcaaca.org/grant/overview.php>
and follow the links.

To submit a proposal, for general information, and for specifics concerning
participation and registration look at page
http://www.pcaaca.org/conference/2008/index.php
<http://www.pcaaca.org/conference/2008/index.php>
simply follow the blue-printed links.

Rest assured that we will not overburden your inbox with emails—in fact,
this is our lone communication for the year—baring the unforeseen. If you
have questions or concerns, please email, telephone, or write us. The
website has administrators’ contact information at
http://www.pcaaca.org/contact.php <http://www.pcaaca.org/contact.php>

We hope to see you all at the Marriott in March!

Sincerely,

Cool! Everyone is virtual!
Ok, so those of you who know me prolly don't remember me, but I went to the Spring 07' WF and met y'all, made tons of awesome friends and learned all kinds of awesome stuff.

Missed out on the Fall WF unfortunately, but I just landed a great job down in Ellington CT last week and now that I'm spending all this time at the computer, I decided it was finally time to join Tribes...

So I'm working 6 days a week 8:00-8:00 but I have Weddy's off and I was wondering if anyone has time to get together every week or so and do some fire Jammin'/Chillin'?

Great to see all your virtual faces again!

Winter Practice Space

I'm sure we have all noticed those overzealous trees turning colors such as yellow, red and orange, just as I am sure we have all noticed that night time is getting chilly (i almost burned in a sweatshirt this evening!)... With the onset of fall, we must face the fact that the outdoor practice season is coming to an end...

I offer a solution. I have a large practice space available in Winsted (think elementary school gym that has been converted into a multipurpose room with an indoors rope course and rock wall, which we are ::wink wink:: not allowed to use).

I am referring to the multipurpose room at Northwestern CT Community College, Green Woods Hall.

So, if I get feedback on what night is good for people, I can make definite plans way before this cold eventuality, and that way when it becomes too cold to hang out outside all day, we will already have a space reserved.

On the subject of days...
Thursday nights are out. I am thinking about continuing with Wednesday, to pick up where the middletown burn leaves off, but, if this night sucks for most people, we will come to some conclusion.

So yeah, give feedback! I am sure that this whole post makes no sense. It's been a long day (damned opening shifts).

Moral of the story-
Large indoor practice space.
Winsted, CT
What night is good for you?

Hi I know you guys and gals have no idea who I am but I was told to
post here to find people in my area..
My name is Amy I have been spinning professionally now for over 8
years and have worked with numerous groups and have spent years street
performing.

When I get back to CT in a few weeks I am going to start a fire troupe.
I'm looking for people that are talented and actually willing to
devote their time into become even better while creating a show.
I want to focus on elaborate choreography, more so hip hop/ fly girl/
Shaolin style choreography if that make since... No stand still trick
for trick stuff.
I personally need a partner to practice blind folded body to body
routines and handcuffed routines with.
I also want to offer sexy fire eating choreography and other routines
with fire implements.
I have so many idea that I want to really showcase and am a very open
minded person that wants to start a very open minded group.

I'm looking for more than just fire performances too... If you have a
special talent that you feel needs to be put out there drop me a line
and we'll see if it's something we can feature in the show.
I would love to eventually create a whole Production Company with a
wide variety of acts to offer within a nights entertainment...
Fire and non fire.

All acts will be costumed... I can make costumes and would love to
have someone help out with costume designs and creations.
SO Boys and Girls If you have what it takes to get things done and are
itching to get out there and make something of yourself with the fire
then.... LETS DO THIS!!!

I just thought it was about time we rallied together and got to know one another. We all know how hard it is to get the city kids out of the city. And we've met plenty a sheepish Connecticutian at an out of state party. It's time to get to know each other and start having some fun in our own home state. Are you out there Connecticut??
