Whoops.

Since I was a kid, when I relate that I'm a surfer, there are those people who try to convince me not to do it because of sharks in the ocean. I swear up and down that I've never seen a shark in San Diego, Great Whites don't even like San Diego, you have a better chance of getting hit by a car - I just haven't believed it.

Then a couple of years ago, I was watching a surf contest up in Huntington Beach. A guy was on a wave doing his thing and a HUGE fin swam right past him, going back out into the deeper water.. He saw it, the whole beach saw it. He got out of the water faster than I think I've ever seen anyone move. A lot of surfers chose to drop out of the competition instead of get in the water that day.

A few days later a helicoper camera man was filming some other story about San Onofre. There's the shark, right on the surface, swimming slow, not worried about a thing, just past the surf line. Same one? Could be, who knew. A few months later, a similar looking shark with a smaller, most likely female, was spotted in the same area, hanging out during a big squid breeding event. All you can eat calamari buffet is a good date for sharks, I guess.

Now this. Just north of my favorite beach. I have joked that I if you have to die, going right back into the food chain wouldn't be a bad deal. Better than having a heart attack while taking a giant dump or something just as stupid. I know that geting killed by a shark is so rare in So Cal that this actually increases my chances of NOT having it happen for another decade or so.

But it does give me pause. Cause I was going to go this weekend.....

Just like when I made some comment about the women who crashed and died and they found her hand still clutching the cell phone. They now think that the kids who were attacked by the tiger in SF may have been taunting her. “Sources said pinecones and sticks that were found in the moat might have been thrown at the animal. Those items could not have landed in the grotto naturally. Police sources said a footprint had been found on a metal fence, suggesting that someone had climbed the fence to get closer to the big cats.” That's right, they climbed over the fence to dangle their legs inside the tiger enclosure. They found a shoe of the kid she killed and his blood on the inside of the fence. That means the tiger saw an encroachment to her territory, leap over a 20' moat and up about 18'; for about a 25' jump, and grabbed a hold. The kid ran; mistake #2, and she chased him and killed him. All of that behavior is normal, known facts, about tigers. And 25’ is not that far for a tiger to Siberian Tiger to jump. They are the largest big cat on the planet

The traffic in - around - through LA makes the entire place useless.

Friday - it took three hours to go from the 405/5 split to the 405/101 split. To make our trip easier we'd have to have left at 9am or the night befoe. That is retarded.

We either need a portal that you can bypass thie entire city or a hovercraft ferry service from Tustin to Ventura.

The recent announcement that Donner and Blitzen have elected to take the early reindeer retirement package has triggered a good deal of concern about whether they will be replaced, and about other restructuring decisions at the North Pole.

Streamlining is due to the North Pole's loss of dominance in the season's gift distribution business. Home Shopping TV channels and mail order catalogues have diminished Santa's market share. He and the Board could not sit idly by and permit further erosion of the profit picture.

The reindeer downsizing was made possible through purchase of a late model Japanese sled for the CEO's annual trip. Improved productivity from Dasher and Dancer, who summered at the Harvard Business School, is anticipated. Reduction in the reindeer will also lessen airborne environmental emissions for which the North Pole has received unfavorable press (gas and solid waste).

We're pleased to inform you that Rudolph's role will not be disturbed. Tradition still counts for something at the North Pole!

Management denies, in the strongest possible language, the earlier leak that Rudolph's nose get red, not from the cold, but from substance abuse. Calling Rudolph "a lush who was into the sauce and never did pull his share of the load" was an unfortunate comment, made by one of Santa's helpers and taken out of context at a time of the year when they are known to be under 'executive stress'.

6) The six geese-a-laying constitutes a luxury which can no longer be afforded. It has long been felt that the production rate of one egg per goose per day was an example of the general decline in productivity. Three geese will be let go, and an upgrading in the selection procedure by personnel will assure management that, from now on, every goose it gets will be a good one;

7) The seven swans-a-swimming is obviously a number chosen in better times. The function is primarily decorative. Mechanical swans are on order. The current swans will be retrained to learn some new strokes, thereby enhancing their outplacement;

Overall we can expect a substantial reduction in assorted people, fowl, animals and related expenses. Though incomplete, studies indicate that stretching deliveries over twelve days is inefficient. If we can drop ship in one day, service levels will be improved.

Regarding the lawsuit filed by the attorney's association seeking expansion to include the legal profession ("thirteen lawyers-a-suing"), a decision is pending.

Deeper cuts may be necessary in the future to remain competitive. Should that happen, the Board will request management to scrutinize the Snow White Division to see if seven dwarfs is the right number.

After a five-hour speech to students, he received a standing ovation at the University of Toronto in 1999.
