Hi everyone.
Paddy spoke about Yayli Tanbur on the Baglama tribe tribes.tribe.net/saz/threa...1c2675db02
We are going to Britian and Turkey in September and Maggie is keen to get a Yayli Tanbur.Paddy talked about various modifications to the Cumbus boby of the Tanbur to make it better to play with a bow.
What I want to know is wether they can be bought already modified or if you have to do it yourself?
I see on the Cumbus shop website that the Yayli Tanbur they have has a wooden body.Would this one have a sound post already fitted inside?
Thanks
Greg

Re: Yayli Tanbur
Mon, August 4, 2008 - 6:00 AMhey greg,
yeap that one with the wooden body, it has a hole in the back, where you put the soundpost. I'm not sure if it comes with one, but, they would probably do it for you, I'd think it'd be the same deal......
If your going to play it like a yayli tanbur (i.e, with a bow) then the wooden one is the way to go.

Tue, November 4, 2008 - 8:14 AMThe hole in the back works on the metal ones too, just cut it out and add the soundpost; don't forget to set the bridge up so that the melody string is slightly raised and that BOTH strings go through the same slot in the bridge.
I just set one up for a fellow and he was very pleased. It makes the bowed sound so much better. -
