Great Holiday News

I have some good news to share. "The Christmas Card", the Hallmark movie I played the diner waitress 'Molly' in, is now available on DVD through Netflix, Blockbuster, Borders, amazon.com and others. Amazon gave us a 5 star rating and has posted some lovely reviews. Ed Asner was nominated for an Emmy for his outstanding performance in the movie earlier this year. Cast and crew are all thrilled! It's a wonderful holiday gift for the entire family.
;-)
Also, A few weeks ago I did a Slingbox commercial which should air very soon during Monday night football. I play a nervous dental patient in this one. Very funny stuff.

Graciously,

So who is still watching Current

I am asking for my own curiosity, not on behalf of the station, although I think that tribe is just the sort of model of conection and networking that CurrentTV could take a cue from. So what are your impressions at this point. What pods are you watching, what topics or perspectives do we need to be covering more, or less. What do you think of the hosts? The frequent contributors. Finally, please feel free to share pod ideas and stories you would like to see covered, for the purpose of anyone on this tribe to produce as a VC2 (Viewer Contributed Pod).

Looking forward to your responses.

Al Gore's film

I have seen the new doc "An Inconvenient Truth" at a company screening. It is essentially a film adaptation and live "tour" film of Gore presenting his Global Warming slideshow to audiences around the work, one I was fortunate enough to see him give live at the Current cafe for employees a couple of months ago. Many of the slides from the presentation, which Gore claims to have given thousands of times before congressional committees, corporate board rooms, lecture halls and scientific conferences, are in the film, along with new footage of nature in action that expounds on the theme. Occasionally there are asides to Gore himself, his childhood, career and family, his varioud meetings around the world, significantly with Students and officials in mainland China. There are even glimpses of Gore in congress, debating environmental issues.

Overall, Gore's singular voice dominates the movie. The film seves as an illuminating tome on the issue of Global warming, with much facinating and starteling infomation within. It also often plays like a 90 minute campaign commercial, with Gore's face and narration a constant presence. The movie is getting a wide theatrical release in June and it will be interesting to see how movie audiences and the mainstream media recieve it.

Anti Wal-Mart/Large corporations video

Has anyone seen "The High cost of Low prices" I haven't but I do look forward to seeing it. I wasn't that impressed with the trailer. I have been, however, working on some ideas for a video for current tv on the same topic. My plan is to shoot some interviews of people with bad experiences with large companies and then contrast these with some video of people actually in smaller stores having a better experience. I also was thinking of interviewing employees of smaller companies and getting some feedback on their relationship with their bosses contrasted with corporate disconnection. Finally I will finish off with statistics on employee income to demonstrate how many smaller stores would have more owners and therefore have more people vested in what one might consider the american dream.

Anybody have any ideas on the subject?

Superheroes on politics

I went out last week to get some footage of people discussing their opinions on the war and what I got was something completely different from anything that I had expected. After a couple of refusals to be interviewed my friend Dan and I started to get a little discouraged when suddenly Darth Vader appeared and was highly enthusiastic about sharing his opinions. Of course, we were shooting at the Grauman's Chinese Theater. This was Followed by Superman, Batman and a very dim-witted Marylin Monroe. Spiderman refused to comment on the subject. This Pseudo-celebrity experience really helped get us started and was followed by a very fruitful day of political interviews. And I must say that as silly as it sounds you really take it a little more seriously when Superman tells you that we should clean up our own backyard before working on someone elses.

There are a couple of pictures from this endeavor in the photo album.

What is current tv

This station was started by Al Gore and although my primary interestr in it is politically motivated there are 55 different genres for current videos. Some of my favorites being: Travel, Rant, Volunteer, Tech and of course for all of you tribers - Culture. Since the content is created by its viewers on DV cameras and home computers, the name of the game is CONTENT. Also the short format opens up a world of topics that could not sustain for 30 minutes or an hour. So lets take some of that electronic bandwidth that we all so eloquently manipulate here on tribe and shake up the television some.
