I'm sure you all already know this, but I would be neglegent if just one person didn't, & I assumed eveyone does.
PLEASE, if you can, keep your precious Cats in tonight!
There's just too many sicko's out in the world these days, & Halloween is the worst, when it comes to the safety of our furry friends.
Especially if you have a black cat, but it's not just limited to them.
Here's hoping all have a safe & wonderful Samhain.
Blessed be!

Re: Halloween / Samhain & Cats
Wed, October 31, 2007 - 8:56 PMMy cat has been on her bench on the front porch all night. All the kids love to see her. But I have to warn them not to touch because she gets pretty pissy. It seems pretty fitting that she hisses at them though :) -

Re: Halloween / Samhain & Cats
Thu, November 1, 2007 - 10:36 AMAllie,
I'm so pleased your cat is safe & even more happy she wasn't used as a target like the A-holes around here do to our neighborhood cats.
The stupid parents here, have no concerns when they buy BB, pellet, & airsoft rifles & pistols for their untutored ignorant, unsupervised, mean spirited (spawn) children, who in turn, love to torture & terrorize any living thing within their vile little sights.
Too many times I've seen & caught evil ignorant (Male) adults, behind our house, trying to lure my (& other) cats close enough to grab them, stuff them in a bag, & use them as "Pitbull" training devices!
One night I caught one of those SOB's, who had chased a cat up the pole behind my house with his pitbull.
I eventually had to draw my weapon on him to get him to leave.
My calling the police on my cell didn't deter him, because he know's the cops wouldn't show up for at least an hour or 4.
I hate the city, & this is a very sick world we live in.
Thank the Goddess for my Cats (& the many other good loving creatures) !
Blessed be! -

Re: Halloween / Samhain & Cats
Thu, November 1, 2007 - 12:20 PMIt's funny that after I posted, I decided to go out and check on her since I had stopped giving out candy. She was fine, but our jack o lantern was gone!! I brought her inside after that. It was probably just a bunch of neighborhood kids pulling a prank since I stopped giving out candy early (if you consider 9pm early!) but it was enough that I didn't want someone tempted to mess with her.
Sorry you have such a bad problem in your neighborhood Cher. I'm glad you're vigilant enough to protect your cats and put the word out to others to be aware :)

Re: Halloween / Samhain & Cats
Wed, November 7, 2007 - 2:39 PMUntil recently, I used to volunteer at a cat shelter, and starting in October we would not allow the adoption of any mostly black cats.
For the week prior to Halloween we allowed no cat adoptions at all.
Keep in mind also that the night before is considered "Devils Night" in many places and the local cops will often overlook acts of vandalism even more than they might otherwise, so keep the cats in.
White trash scum with BB guns and such are a growing problem, right along with the quad runner problem. Too little parental supervision and control and not enough repercussions for their actions.
On the scum training their dogs and trespassing on your land... Keep in mind that a large dog, especially a Pit, is considered a deadly weapon, and you are well within your rights to shoot them if they are on your land or threatening you or your pets or children. You are also well within your rights to detain them at gunpoint until the police arrive.
Personally I would shoot both the owner and the dog at that point.
