I found this really gross pile of what looks like yellow puke in the middle of my garden. It is soft and spungy, but doesn't have anything in it that looks like it came from an animal's stomach. Is it some kind of fungi or mold?

Re: Yellow Puke? Mold?
Fri, April 6, 2007 - 8:53 AMThere is a mushroom that is all oozie and slimey. I can't remember if it's yellow or not. Some people get all excited about finding stuff like that, lucky you. My mushroom book has been tossed to the back of my reference shelf, it's so hard to figure out. I'll take a look-see for you. Has it been wet where you are?

Re: Yellow Puke? Mold?
Sun, April 8, 2007 - 5:05 PMSounds like slime mold. Which is a type of fungus (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
If it's like what we get, after it spreads it will turn sorta white and crusty (still puke-like, just, different). Easy to scrape up and dispose at this point. If you spray it with water (or beat it with a stick?), lots and lots of spores will be released. More slime mold elsewhere! -

Fri, April 13, 2007 - 7:46 PMThey actually aren't a fungus although they were once classified as such. They are a pretty interesting organism. They move independantly like an animal, but reproduce in a similar fashion to a fungus. There is a picture of a yellow one on wikipedia that might help to identify your's.

Tue, May 8, 2007 - 11:19 AMThanks, all, for the helpful information. Very kewel :) how the mold turns to smoke (spores) when you water it....which I don't anymore. Beautiful pics in your album, by the way.
