Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Mon, July 27, 2009 - 7:37 PMI cant believe that the NFL is allowing him to come back. Im sorry but the man has no remorse. He fought the dogs for many years.
I dont watch sports, but if I did I would boycott the NFL. -

Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Mon, July 27, 2009 - 7:49 PMSeems to me it'd be a suicidal business move for a franchise to hire him - think of the economic back-lash !

Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Mon, July 27, 2009 - 9:45 PMFrom the article I read this morning, he doesn't exactly have any teams clamoring for his services. Maybe he should go into caged Ultimate Fighting... actually, that'd be a much more appropriate field for him. -

Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Tue, July 28, 2009 - 2:37 PMi was watching them talk about it on cnn during my lunch break today... they mentioned that some lesser (there was some football term) team like the buffalo bills might be willing to pick him up if he's a good player still. a team that's bad enough they're willing to take the political fallout in exchange for possibly winning.
i really hope buffalo doesn't do that. i know my parents are bills fans for life, so they'll find some way to justify it. even tho i think its one of the worst things you could do, i'm not really surprised. look at how easy our country punishes some murderers, rapist, child molesters... they all get a second chance
i guess what we should hope for now is that no team actually picks him up.
the whole thing makes me really sad. all those poor dogs. cold blooded killing deserves a second chance more than forcing animals to fight and live such an awful life day after day :( -

Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Wed, July 29, 2009 - 4:21 AMI was going to type something, but I go numb even beginning to contemplate the cruelty of dog fighting. I will never understand the people who enjoy it.
As for Mr. Vick, it would be a nice gesture if he would devote the rest of his life to making amends for his wrongs. It won't do any good for the many dogs which he is probably responsible for violently torturing to death, but he could do a lot of good for dogs who are suffering today. My preference would be that he discovers that there is so much that he can do for dogs in need that he doesn't have time to pursue any other career goals.
Who knows? Maybe he would fall in love with a sweet dog, and then be able to feel some real remorse. -
-
Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Wed, July 29, 2009 - 11:28 AMI think he should be put in the ring with mike Tyson. How does *he* like getting his ear bitten off? -
-
Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Wed, July 29, 2009 - 4:46 PMMudgely, I like your idea, but I strongly believe he genetically or environmentally does NOT have compassion within him.
It simply is not within his comprehension to love a dog like many of us do.
I think he should stay the hell away from pets of any kind.
I had heard that he is still trying to purchase property, lots of acreage so that he can hunt deer... OMFG. -
-
Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Sat, August 1, 2009 - 10:01 PMHunt deer? Can he actually be allowed to own guns? Personally, I would prefer that criminals that harm anyone - especially as sickly as he did with the dogs - should never be able to own any gun. I don't have a problem with hunting, as long as it's done with the intent of using the animal (meat, hide, etc) and not just for sport, but people like Vick shouldn't be allowed to do more than fish - if that.
He and others like him just make my blood boil. I like the idea of caging him with Tyson or some other blood sport fighter. -
-
Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Sun, August 2, 2009 - 10:48 AMI thought that most states made it a serious crime for a convicted felon to own a firearm. -
-
Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Mon, August 3, 2009 - 8:13 AMConvicted felons are not permitted to own firearms. Of course, criminals tend not to care too much about the law ...
-
Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Mon, August 3, 2009 - 8:52 PMI thought that too. That's why I questioned the hunting thing. But maybe he plans to bow hunt - I still think any weapon should be kept out of the hands of convicted felons. -
-
This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Tue, August 4, 2009 - 5:34 AMSome states don't require the registering of hunting rifles, therefore the convicted felon thing is harder to track.
What disturbs me is that his hometown was planning a welcoming celebration for him......unless this involves a public stoning I can't see how the organizers can sleep at night. -
-
Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Tue, August 4, 2009 - 3:32 PMa welcoming celebration?
i googled it and here's a qote from the article i foudn that pissed me off
"After all, a number of NFL players have done worse to actual people (including themselves!), and they are given a chance to reform and earn a living."
actual people? first of all i fully support people's right to harm themselves... but whether or not you like dogs or people better, it shouldn't really matter in the case of michael vick. the bottom line is premeditated extreme cruelty. day after day the planning and care that he took to continue his torture. the issue shouldn't be about whether animals or people are effected, it should be about how evil a person is to go thru with that. day after day!
the nfl or anyone shouldn't think he deserves a second chance because it was "only dogs". the act should be what is questioned, not the species of the victims
sadly i feel like professional athlete's in this country are treated far too leniently, and unfortunately i dont see that shifting anytime soon. this country worships football ::vomits in her mouth a little::: -

Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Sat, September 5, 2009 - 7:27 AMI was channel surfing the other night when I heard his name mentioned on a sports channel...seems in the last game he played, he got sacked 4 times in 40 yards. Heh heh heh! -
-
Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Mon, September 7, 2009 - 2:19 PMso by now we all know that, like it or not, michael vick has been given that '2nd chance' in the nfl....i like to believe i'm a fair minded individual and i do believe in 2nd chances...for most people....but there are a few instances (child molestation, animal cruelty, for instance) where i don't think 2nd chances should apply (especially when that 2nd chance involves making millions of dollars playing a pro sport)...
i watched the interview with him and would like to believe he is truly sorry for what he has done...he grew up in a family who engaged in dog fighting, so for him, as a child, this was the norm. i'm not making excuses, because there comes a time in anyone's life when they know the difference in what's right and what's wrong...just saying we're all products of our 'growing up' environments. as far as i'm concerned what he has done is inexcusable, but the past can't be changed so let's hope he has learned from it.
and in a way we have something to be thankful to him for. he has done for this cause what rock hudson did for AIDS. he brought this horrible crime into the spotlight and made more people aware. hopefully now that more people are aware, more people will be willing to fight to end this horrible practice. -
-
Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Mon, September 7, 2009 - 9:06 PMTrue - Dog fighting has been going on for ages...not until the last few years has it become so well known...
Seems more people / agencies are fighting against it, with it being in the spot light. But again it bothers me so much that about a month ago, 500 dogs were seized across 6 states for a large fighting ring bust - Did you hear about
it ? Doubtful...Has it been on the news since No...no $ involved for ratings. :o(
" seems in the last game he played, he got sacked 4 times in 40 yards" - H A !!! I can't WAIT until real season and
a 350 lb tackle just takes him out !! Blows his knee or some even more tragic. I would never wish harm on anyone,
it's not in my nature, but I think he has his Karma coming. -
-
Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Wed, September 9, 2009 - 11:58 AMi totally agree about the karma...what goes around comes around....
i've really had to 'squelch' my dark feelings for michael vick...my initial hatred was so strong it was truthfully affecting me...in a negative way. i don't like having or harboring those types of feelings....but like everyone here, my love of animals, particularly dogs, is so intense that my reaction to anyone who does harm to them is immediate and threatening...but that solves nothing...there are always going to be people who are cruel in this world...unfortunately...
i live in the south and i wonder how many illegal dogfighting 'rings' exist in 'my own backyard'...of course these things are kept 'hush hush' but i know they exist....and it breaks my heart...
as for michael vick....let's just hope he's truly repentant and means what he's saying in speeches around the states...he's spreading the word that what he did was wrong and that he wishes he could take it all back...i'd like to believe that's true and that one more human has changed their wicked ways...*and i do believe there are a lot of doglovers in the nfl who'll take shots at him throughout the season...
and no, i did'nt hear about that recent large fighting ring bust...without a famous person or something to senstionalize it, as usual, the media feels no reason or gain in reporting it i suppose....it's the world we live in..............and it sucks...but as long as vick is out there to remind people, hopefully it will at least make some difference.... -

Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Wed, September 9, 2009 - 12:06 PMbest case scenario for Vick that i can think of
something happens to him in which he has to rely on
a service dog to help him for the rest of his life
i can't think of a better lesson than that. -
-
Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Wed, September 9, 2009 - 3:04 PMyeah...except....would you want to leave a dog in his 'service'? he's not worthy of ever having the joy and comfort of canine company in my opinion. -
-
Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Wed, September 9, 2009 - 8:04 PMi was thinking a little deeper than just punishment
you can punish someone or make them suffer for wrongdoing all day long
without ever getting them to really understand the nature of their wrongdoing
or inspiring any real change from within.

Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Thu, September 10, 2009 - 11:27 AMWhat bothers me the most to the dogs - is the terror that they experience...Most pitbulls are strong and handle the physical pain well...but the terror and fear is what makes my knees weak. We have a new dog in our shelter right now that I have just started working with - I don't think she was used in fighting - she's a little, beautiful fawn Pitbull with long eyelashes and a black button for a nose.
She looks like Machevelli - one of the Vick dogs. Her nose looks like it was bound with wire or something. She does not have ANY inkling of aggression, but she does that low crouch walk and is so scared of everything. Everything. It took a while to earn her trust. All she wants to do is nuzzle her nose in your belly and she'd crawl up inside you if she could. She gives me a reminder of what they go thru'...
Astrid, I'll bet there is stuff going on in your back yard...Post fliers, posters - HSUS will pay up to $5,000 for people that report leads to dog fighting. You can get free kits on the prevention of dog fighting...
I agree with Michael and having to rely on a Service Dog - what a lesson tha'd be...wow. -
-
Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Thu, September 10, 2009 - 2:23 PMi know what you mean about the terror....just thinking about it makes me sick.... -
-
Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Sun, September 13, 2009 - 7:36 AMGods, I hear that Astrid. I'm so dang attached to my dog that when I think about natural disasters and things like the hurricane in New Orleans a few years ago, and what I wold do "if"... oh, just the IDEA of my little girl, scared and loose in the city without me, can bring tears to my eyes.
And when I think about people of Vick's ilk, I.... just.... BURN with anger and rage and I want him to know, on the deepest possible level, what he has inflicted on beings that would only and ever have given him love and loyalty.
Animals are so innocent, and humankind is so corrupt. Maybe that's why so many of us are so tenderhearted when it comes to them. I just want to protect them all.
I agree that the best "punishment" for a man like Michael Vick would be to have to be dependent on a service dog every day of his life, and to know in his bones every day of his life how completely heinous his crimes were, so he can feel the hopelessness and despair of his dependency as well as the FEAR of going to his god(s) at the end of his life to be assessed and judged by a "court" he can't buy off. -

- Really good article on Vick -
Fri, October 2, 2009 - 9:17 AM
I had no idea he was pinned on 'racqueteering' and NOT on animal cruelty... OMG.
Whoever out there believes " he did his time, he deserves to re-enter society.." THINK AGAIN.

Fri, October 2, 2009 - 2:51 PMI couldn't agree more.
Nike just penned an endorsement deal with Vick; I'm boycotting their products as a result. content.usatoday.com/communi...in-nfl/1
Where do we draw the line with felons in the sports community? "Oh, it was just dog fighting/rape/domestic violence"? (We already know that pro jocks can and do get away with murder ...) -

I agree. Though not only in the sports community - it seems that the more money you have and the more well known you are, the more you can buy your way out of. I think he should have had every charge possible layed upon him. Most felons that come out of jail have a hard time getting a decent enough job to earn a meager living - yet Vick gets to play in the pros again. It's just not right.

Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Thu, October 8, 2009 - 8:50 AMAnd now BET has given him a TV series ...
www.msnbc.msn.com/id/332152...nt-gossip/
I reiterate my previous question: where do we draw the line. Reading that the dog-fighting/felony animal cruelty charge was dropped as part of a plea bargain made my blood boil. Vick was jailed on racketeering charges, and the dog-fighting (a felony in all 50 states) was disregarded. >:-( -
-
Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Thu, October 8, 2009 - 10:13 AMso those who beat their hearts against a wall, do rescue, spent more money than they make doing good and caring deeds get nothing, but if you break the law, cause suffering, MURDER for sport and you career is better than it ever was.
Sounds fair to me............... N O T ! ! !
-
Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Thu, October 8, 2009 - 10:20 AMMmmm...I wonder if the show's producers will have the integrity to tell the truth when they "delve into his backstory", or will they just focus on his poor childhood. Plenty of people have had under privileged childhoods and still manage not to go on to torturing dogs. And what do the people who still admire him think of his past deeds? Do they know and not care? Do they not know? I'm afraid that I'm never going to understand this.
And as we speak, the supreme court debates the constitutionality of making videos showing animal cruelty. Why is this even in question? -

Keep in mind that Vick can afford the best legal talent. The plea bargain might have been the best guarantee of a conviction, in the prosecutor's opinion. -

Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Mon, October 19, 2009 - 12:58 AMAt his most recent game , Eagles against the Raiders in the Bay Area ( Oakland ) the rescue that saved many of his dogs,
BAD RAP (Bay Area Dog Owners Responsible About Pitbulls ) offered him a chance to see his dogs (behind a window) -
He declined.
Just goes to show, he doesn't give a shit. -
-
Re: A Second Chance for Michael Vick
Tue, October 20, 2009 - 1:19 PMOf course he doesn't give a shit. The only remorse that arsehole has from the whole experience is that he was caught and his assets seized under RICO. And, considering that he got another NFL contract and a freaking TV series deal, I don't think that pain is too bad at this point.
And people wonder why I say that jocks can get away with anything in this culture. It's crap.
