kind of off topic but on... on the subject of microchips.... how can i find out which company i need to update my information? jiffy's microchip has my cell phone number on there, but i've moved a bunch of times and folders of those kind of papers could be a challenge to locate. i know at shelters they can scan it and pull up their info when a lost animal comes in... anyone know if they could possibly scan jiffy's microchip and let me know what company i need to update my info with? my cell phone number has been the same for years, but in september i'll be getting a new one -

Re: *sniff*
Tue, June 30, 2009 - 10:00 AMWhen we got my dad's rescue dog we took him to the vet and they had 3 different company scanners and found the one that worked. They then gave us a form to update his info. It was super easy and cost like $10 or something nominal like that. Any vet should be able to help you.

Re: *sniff*
Fri, July 3, 2009 - 10:11 AMThe Avid scanners will pick up all 3 manufacturer's chips. The ID numbering systems are different so one can tell who the maker is by the alpha numeric serial number.
Most chip companies charge a fee to update your info.
NOT ALL SHELTERS AUTOMATICALLY REGISTER THE M/C!!!! LA City does, LA County does not. Ask about this when you adopt. -
