Jahara Phoenix to open for Shawn Mullins

The Jahara Phoenix Dance Company will be opening for Shawn Mullins
on Friday, July 25th at 7:30pm on the Historic Lawrenceville Square
in Lawrenceville, GA.

From May to September, at 8:00 p.m., on the fourth Friday of each
month, concerts will be held on the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse
lawn. Each concert will offer various styles of music including
blues, jazz, rock, folk, country and bluegrass, Motown, swing and
more!

Shawn Mullins' vibrant new album, honeydew (released March 11th on
Vanguard Records) is teeming with humanity — hobos, railroad
workers, traveling salesmen, homeless troubadours, fearful old
people, youngsters yearning to escape from a dead-end existence, and
several generations of family members, living and dead. There's a
ton of heartache in this record, and a ton of hope as well, as
Mullins explores the dark corners of contemporary existence while
also delving back into the past, capturing vivid pictures of his
native Atlanta and the surrounding South in a voice of plainspoken
eloquence and uncommon genuineness. This richly interwoven,
character-driven work is at once the most panoramic album of

The main performers of the day would be the following:

Dr. Ravi Subramanian, Asst. Professor - College of Management, Georgia Tech
Ravi received his training in Indian classical music from the late Gomati Sitaram at The Fine Arts Society, Mumbai. He has been actively involved in encouraging interest in Indian classical music and dance on various campuses during his academic career. Although trained in the Carnatic violin, one of his hobbies is experimenting with other instruments and genres. His most recent experiment is Carnatic music on the electric guitar.

Dr.Parag Chordia, Asst.Professor - Music Department, Georgia Tech
Parag is a sarod player and is a disciple of Pandit Buddhadev Das Gupta, one of the greatest of all Indian sarodiyas. Before that, he studied with Michael Robbins, a disciple of of two legends of Indian classical music Pandit Radhika Mohan Maitre and Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh.

free speech is dwindling as the right to free thought of the aware and educated individual does with it.
Georgia, the state where i live, is currently the biblebelt police state headquarters of the U.S.
if you've been reading my VERY open eyed and not at all shy recent journals you know where i'm going with this.
WE on our own soil have hi-jacked a religion as we accuse our presupposed accusers of doing. In the land of the free, we are currently subjagating those personalities that stand for freedom, choice, and the will of success of those ideas that tend to be attached - why?
For the sake of another dollar, because their truely is 'a will to dominate' and It Is Sooo Obvious! Like Naze said, it is a machine. A literal fucking machine, and it stays oiled and running by CREATING enemies.
these are not defence tightening campaigns but full blown invasions to feed the machine.
I will, without fear, write that one more time - the war machine is currently turning profits to those who will uplift it's blood soaked values and censor the freedom and life representing individual; the formula is in fear weaving by a rampant administration, artificial scarcity tactics by people just like Rupert Murdoch and a government that now willfully does not work for its people.
how is it not natural to want to stand for what is tangibly right and speak out against what is obviously defunct?

i don't care how you vote or even if you vote, but as World Citizens we have a right to stand and should - and if someone tells you, 'we're not there yet', you should ask when they threw their hands up. what's evil to me is that are people out there actually giving up and tithing away their rights.
i'm not politically motivated, but inspired to motions that will advance freedom, awareness, and spontaneous acts of personal responsibility reinvested into the Whole World.

Blood and oil will not carry Us any further than suffering here and infecting All Ways.
So, Now mind and creative inspiration becomes the power of One Earth Vision, and alternative energies begin to flood in ceaseless multiplicity and open-ended variations from the Source of It. I will see that gateway open wide in my lifetime.

Andrew Provine became emersed in music at the age of 5 playing the piano. For years he maintained a strict program of two hour practices a day. Throughout middle school he began learning the guitar which has been his primary instrument for the last 14 1/2 years. In the late 90's Provine became very interested in electronic music and taught himself how to mix records. Frequenting weekend "rave" parties he made many close friends throughout the Atlanta music scene. Provine is an FAA commercially and seaplane rated pilot and in 2002 befriended well-known house music producer and pilot Chris Brann. Brann and Provine composed numerous songs and in August of 2004 Provine decided to get a computer and try his hand at production. Thanks to Charles Pazinets Provine was introduced to Ableton Live in early 2005 and never looked back. "Ableton has changed everything. I have played up to six instruments before during one ten or fifteen minute long performance. The universe is the limit." On May 25, 2005 Provine, Pazinets, and Adam Herbert came together officially to form Random Rabbit.

i wrote this at the thought of a christian al qaeda - i.e. the current administration and the new religious morality stance infiltrating the military.

hypothetically, what's the difference between high-tech fear driven control and the low-tech version? hm??

skin color?
economic dominion?
the ability to be more sneaky and lie more cleverly?
there is NO moral right!
both are oozing from the same pore
i'm - we are affected on the homefront by the homefront

i hurt, do me a favor - disconnect me, let me be reworked.
but i'll never be top of the line again - i'd rather be nothing.

i've never said anything political my whole life...just sat back and watched the world get torn a new one. tolerated the smoke as it choked me, "it's their world to destroy". i'm timeless and it's not my problem.
this should tell you something if nothing has so far, that even i now come forth.

we are and will not as americans but as citizens of the world - we have to speak, even at our own risk, against the tactics of fear weaving and artificial scarcity. These gross tactics of oppression, it is seared into my mind and heart daily, by the hour - and the spiritual attainment i seek is meaningless as my enlightened flesh..acid rots off next to the corpses i meditate surrounded by.

Ray Castro’s education is well- rounded and diverse. An award winning artist since childhood, he has a degree in fine arts from the New Mexico State University, as well as a commercial art degree from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. He has exhibited in galleries as well as museums, in both group and one man shows, in such places as Florida, New York, South America, and Denmark.
He also has had apprenticeships under several artists including colorist Gilles Patrick Vallet, a student of Dali and Erte, classically trained surrealist Mimi Beoschlager, and New York photo realist, William Thompson. Castro’s patron list includes as Mick Jagger, Sophia Loren, and the Barnetts. His work has also been published in many magazines, including Design and Home. He presently splits his time between Florida and New York.

Devin Wilson

A Florida native, Devin Wilson’s work in drawings, paintings and sculpture carried him through his initial years of sexual exploration and self expression.
Currently, Devins’ work can be seen in Texas, Atlanta, Florida and Amsterdam. His list of credits also include co-producing many leather events over the past few years. Recently, Devin provided the cover artwork and illustrations for FifthAngel's book, "The Finer Points of Pain and Pleasure.” and illustrations for the book “Inside the Mind of a Sexual Sadist.”
Devin is now working on the completion of his appreticeship to be a Tattoo artist, at Kadillac Tattoo in Jacksoncille.

WARNING IF YOU ARE NOT BLACK YOU WILL GET BOOTED IN THE PARKING LOT NEXT TO CAFE 428.

I just bought a home in the ole forth ward on Boulevard. I had heard of a cafe that feed the homelss and they need help as far as kitchen staff.

A friend of mine and I went to check it out to see how we could help. I said let go get coffee and Javaology and talk to the foks at 428. So we met up parked in the parking lot beside cafe 428. unknowing if we were white and parked in the lot we would get booted. Why do I say this.
Two black men pulled as we were getting out of our cars. They parked in the same lot as we did. We were tlaking to the staff about how we could help and the copule had breakfast and left. We left walked out and talked on the side walk and watched the black copule walk drive away. We then went to Javaology and had Coffe. When we got back to our cars they were booted and we had coffee in our hands. So you tell me whats wrong with this picture. We talked to the owner of Javaology he could not do nothing about it. But he does rent the lot. Hummmm Lets see you rent the lot you cannot do anything about it. And we were trying to find out information to support the area. We get a boot slaped on our cars when we try to help.

Can we say Racial discrimination because we are white.

Maxwell/Mosher is comprised of Tom Maxwell and Ken Mosher, two of the original members of the now defunct musical phenomenon The Squirrel Nut Zippers. Maxwell wrote the tune "Hell" which put the Zippers on the map. After departing from the band in early 1999, Maxwell and Mosher took a short break and then released Maxwell's solo effort "Samsara". The release of "Samsara" was followed by a unforgettable tour featuring The Remember Quartet and Robert Sledge of Ben Folds Five. In 2004, they formed Maxwell/Mosher Publishing and have contributed to a variety of programs including A&E's "Family Plots", two Kanebo makeup commercials in Japan, Disney Channel Production's "Life is Ruff", and J. Todd Anderson's movie "My Mummy". In 2005 they released a new disc with 4 re-recorded Zippers classics and 12 Maxwell/Mosher originals.

On June 11th, the 2006 Atlanta Film Festival will be showing the short film "The Bread Squeezer" made by local filmmakers Kasia Kowalczyk and Tal Harris. Maxwell/Mosher created the film's soundtrack. "When we first heard Tom Maxwell's solo album (Samsara) after the break-up of the Squirrel Nut Zippers, we were flabbergasted by how cinematic it felt. We joked that it would be great to work with somebody as talented as Tom" says Harris. After sending Maxwell the script on a whim they got their wish. "The Bread Squeezer" tells the story of Andrew Peadbody, whose loving parents die in a tragic Christmas tree accident. He is taken in by his well-meaning, but extremely regimented Aunt Gertrude Crab. His life then spirals out of control as he becomes obsessed with squeezing bread. Fortunately for Andrew, the cashier at Pickle's Grocery has fallen in love with him, giving him love instead of bread. "The Breadsqueezer" was nominated for "Best Short" at the 2006 Vail Film Festival.

Maxwell/Mosher will be bringing their band, complete with tuba and drums, to perform at Eyedrum in support of "The Bread Squeezer" and their self-titled release. Look forward hearing plenty of SNZ classics with a fresh new twist!

Hey Folks!

my name is imani and i live outside of DC. i play hand drums, sing, dance and help to co-create environments where community can come together to play together all night long. imagine a sacred fire with about 150 friends (some of whom, you'll know, and some you wont)...imagine what it means to explore "art in action".

we play improvisational percussion based music, dance around a sacred fire, sharing spoken word poetry and making collaborative art. and it consistently is one of the best times i have ever had in my life.

"Sacred Soul Fires are places where the wild and the wise meet each other across the fire, without conversation or direction we intuitively weave webs of wholeness, compassion, harmony and generosity into our lives. We play, drum, dance, chant and listen all night long. We welcome the precious experience of collaborative art as it helps us access our soul’s true nature."

if you are inspired by this kind of art, we are gathering 2 hours outside of Atlanta, near chatanooga, may 5-7.

The time is ripe for Atlanta to have it's own niche in the psytrance scene and why not?! All around the United States small psy collectives have been popping up. Groups of the young at heart just trying to share this amazing energy with others, most of them not for money, but out of love for the music and the respect for our sacred communities. Just about anybody that's ever been to a psytrance party can agree that there is something special, but it only works when we ALL contribute (even if it means just showing up to shake that groove thing of yours).

Atlanta has some pretty groovy spaces and places around here and we have the talent (djs, organizers, artists, dancers....all of US) to get it going. That's why we present to you hopefully the first of much more to come from our growing ATL psytribe. That's the catch though. Atlanta is a GROWING family and in order to grow bigger and stronger we need YOUR help and support. We have rented the space and committed a couple of dedicated djs, now we just need you! Your art, your dance, your ideas and thoughts, your specially unique creative energy! Understand,this party is just as much yours as it is ours. A growing brainchild of a few that just want to share their love of this genre with you. Our contribution to help stimulate and further Atlanta's psytrance needs. This party is fresh (when was the last time you got to dance on skates?) and brought to you all out of nothing but pure love for sharing this scene with the ATL area. Help us grow!

Hello all you beautiful people! I just wanted to invite everyone to the very first performance of Shakti Project. This is a bellydance-inspired group of women from Athens, GA, started by Baraka Bashad. We will be showin' our stuff (hehe) on Saturday, August 27th at Nuci's space in Athens. Doors will open at 8 and the performance starts at 9. This is a benefit for Nuci's space, so the $$ will go to a good cause. If you don't know about Nuci's space, you can go to their website to check it out (www.nuci.org). There's also an amazing photo of our group there!
I'm personally very excited (and nervous) because this is my very first performance in the world of bellydance and I can't wait to see how the goddess will manifest!

How about it, anybody in for this show/event in Newnan ? ( see listings) Can anybody in Atl. give me a hand in spreading the word ?
Newnan is ripe to develope the visuail arts. They STRONGLY support the loc. comm. theater. It's next door to me & the Wallflowers project. A bunch of small store fronts, offices/appartments are about to open up. (The new county building is do for compleation soon). There are severail home decore & antique shops downtown now . Nice small town with all of the neccesities, 30 min S. of Atl. I just moved from NM., passed on Atl. for here. There's $ here and Peachtree city. serious artist could build something here. The towns support for my wallflowers has been amazing. What'a ya think ?
