I answered no. That he may not be the answer to all the worlds problems. But he's still a better answer than McCain.

Yes he is obviously a better candidate than McCain, in that he's less likely to start World War III LOL!. As for being better in other ways, not really. He's still establishment playing the same old political games, promising the earth but delivering very little real change. The reality is, both parties are two sides of the same political coin. Both want power and both have enough clout to ensure that no other alternative can have a voice. Mike Gravel and Ron Paul, each from their perspective parties were quite genuine and truthful in their campains but both were rejected by the system for being to radical. In other words, they did not tow the party line just to get along.

Looks like he's off to a great start so far. But you can bet his adversaries will be gunning for him (metaphorically speaking).

I ran into a 67 year old lady who called him "evil." I didn't stop the conversation to ask her to elaborate, but suffice it to say she's white and rich.

I voted for him for only one reason: he's less discriminatory than any other candidate I've ever seen. Even if he doesn't live up to his campaign promises, he's not going to be stepping on people's heads just because they are different.

I was hoping for Ron Paul till he was out. He seemed the most sensible.

You should hear my Grandma talk about Obama. "That BLACK MAN!!!......" Blah blah blah. I love my Grandma. She's my grandma. But she's racist even though she'd never admit it to anyone or herself. She thinks Reagan & Bush Sr are two of the greatest men that have ever lived. She's 88. I'm surprised she's not more progressive. She reads like 4 - 5 books a week and has for most of her life. I wonder what books she's been reading? I loaned her The Secret Life Of Bill Clinton - The Untold Stories. She thought it was great. It would be interesting to see what she thinks of some of the books I have on the Bushes. She cant accept any of that stuff.

Here in Canada, Obama is worshiped.
When he was elected, we celebrated and millions of Canadians danced in the streets.

Current Stats Poll indicates Obama's more popular than any Canadian Politician,
(past or present). In fact, everyone in our government is envious of his HUGE approval rating among Canadian people.

            I love Obama!
Wish he belonged to us. :-)

Although no longer a US resident(but still a citizen!),it was soooo important to me to vote for Obama,I made it a point to bring my ballot to the US portion of my honeymoon, sent if off from my hotel and I don't regret it for a second. I just finished reading the audicity of hope and if he can implement even a small portion of his ideas spelled out there, the world will be a better place!

                      All kidding aside...

...when BUSH sat on the mighty throne, we, Canadians, were warned that any day, your magnificent boys might cross the border and plant your flag. (Wouldn't take much, don't think! ....Just a tank, a bunch of foot soldiers and a handshake.)

So, everyday, we dressed in camo-floss and had our pea-shooters ready for the inevitable invasion.
(Made lotsa home-cooked goodies, too, in case you were hungry.)

Attack didn't happen..so, we ate all the food ourselves.

I am glad that Obama is in the White House.

But I'm starting to see subtle signs of overcompensation & desperation out there.

There are a lot of folks out there that seem to think he can do no wrong, and that he is the answer to all of our nation's problems....simply because he is not Bush and/or he is not Republican.

Or because he's black. I' ve actually overheard a black guy on the phone before the election say: "I don't know anything about him. I don't NEED to know, all I know is that he's black and that's enough!"

I wonder if he cheered when O.J. was acquitted during his criminal trial (lots of black folks who didn't even watch the entire trial cheered when that murderer was set free. I guess that's all they needed to know too).

Obama being elected was great. But this country still has a LOT of growing up to do.

I did not vote for the man in part because he is from Chicago Illinois and I used to live there and know something about the politics of the region. I figured that Illinois politics would get involved nationally and I can see they did with the way he is working his cabinet and staff. I give the man a chance to prove himself and his staff and yet I worry that Billary will shoot her mouth off to some country and get us all in trouble. (makes me wonder about Canada, lol).

After the senate seat pay off scandle with the Govenor of Illinois and how Obama was left out of the scandle via the media, I think Obama will have more teflon on him than Regan did.

I think Le Prez still has the ranch in Crawford. But they have moved into a new house in Dallas and the secret service lives in the house next door. If I lived there I probably would have gotten as close as possible. I'm sure it must be in a gated community. I wonder what the address is? Can we get it on google earth satellite cam? : )

I'm from Texass Hummingbird. There are alot of fucked up people there. But there are ALOT of really good people there too. Theyre not all fucked up. The good ones get a bad rap from the bad ones. But alas, ultimately I moved from Texass to California because Texans wanted to lock me away in a mental institution. And California gave me a job that I've been at for 20 years come September. God bless CA. And FUCK the evil bass turds in TX. FUCK THEM!!! MOTHER FUCKING COCK SUCKING BITCHES!!!! : )

                            Happy thoughts. La la la.

Coming from a Texan, i have to agree. By the way, I am happy with Obama so far. I also know that politicians are strange animals, so I didn't expect him to break too far from politics as usual. What I DID expect, was for him to conduct himself with a higher degree of integrity, than this country has come to expect from it's politicians. So far, i haven't been dissappointed. We'll se what the future holds. I'm rooting for him...and us.

No. But I feel that too much is put on this one man.... its as though he is on a godlike status or something.... remember above all else... he is a person... capable of mistakes... so I hope that when something unfavorable happens he can still have the same support of those that glorify and deify him. He always said Yes WE can and never said Yes I can. Just understand that part.

First off MR M I just want to address the Ron Paul thing

The field of republican candidates was so full of extreme base ass kissers that amounted to little more than a big pile of shit. When you looked into that field of candidates and saw ron paul all you were seeing was the corn in that pile of shit.

Ron Paul may have been against the Iraq war but he is also against the department of education, Public Highways and public Health care. In the last few months the rhetoric of libertarians and their hollow cries that there is no such thing as good government has been proven wrong at the peril of the masses. If the govermnt can do no good why is it that when it fails the results are catatrophic Think Katrina, 9/11 and the financial crisis created by laise faire policies implented by reagan and increased by each succesive president.

On the surface what Ronn Paul says sounds like it makes sense but when disected by nuance it will only benefit a very small potion of the population and decimate the rest of us. To believe in Libertarinism is to ignore the entirity of the history of mankind. Since the time we emerged out of eveolution as a social animal we have always I repeat ALWAYS done better when we have worked together.

I am not even going to get started on Ron Pauls racist background and history of hateful bigotry but if you want to know about it here is a link to one of my blogs where I break down (with refrences and footn otes) some of that Mr M I would be Curious what you had to say if you took the time to check it out.

Now as far as obama goes I am impressed with him more and more every day. He is a brilliant politician and with all the doubts I had about him I have to say I am starting to think that 1- he is erious about changing the status quo in washington and 2- he might be smart enough to do it.

I saw him interviewed on some show and thought he was making alot of sense. Then I had read about some of the things you bring up too. I probably wouldnt have voted for him. Like if it was him against Obama I still would have voted for Obama. I dont even know why I vote anyway. On one hand I think it's good. On another I dont think it matters at all. Most politicians are bought and paid for puppets.

Yeah I hear you on the the why bother voting thing but my father put it into perspective when I was 18. He told me that people die everyday for the right to vote and to just becavalier about having that right is wrong. Ive voted in every presidential election, mid term election ever since.

I also think that it would work if everyone would vote.

But I definetly understand how you feel.

By the way I wasnt trying to scold or anything on the Ron Paul thing. I just find that a lot of people dont know those things about him

The reason the poor and middle class get their ass kicked politically is because most are too apathetic to vote. My dad didn't vote till the last few years of his life. My 14 year old daughter would vote now if she were old enough. My youngest daughter would have voted Republican, but then she's in special ed and just contrary in nature.

granted. But for those instances where I don't like ANY of the candidates (which happens some election years for me), and I don't vote for any candidate - I don't think it's being cavalier.

I've still chosen. I've simply chosen not to vote.

Many people die everyday for the right for me to exercise that choice too.

balance and contrast are two different things (yet are often confused with one another).

            Especially politically.

Balance does not require an antonym. Contrast does. (IMO)

Sure, according to the laws of classical physics there is a thing called "complementarity" which states that an object needs another anti/counterpart object as its reference point for it to "exist".

But I don't think that's necessarily true with social/politial things. You can acheive political equilibrium in other ways.

We do need balance. But this country doesn't need any more contrast.

A great example of that Solari is Representative Patrick McHenry (R) from Illinois who blatantly (and proudly) stated that the Republican party doesn't care about this country (no shit), they only care about taking down Obama, and the Democrats.

      No matter what.

I don't think the Republicans ever really cared about this country. Not in any practical, realistic way anyway.

Politicians in general aren't my favorite people but Republicans can't seem to get to hell fast enough. The flames can't be hot enough either ...

The death of the Republican party would be the death of the democratic party too. I want the republicans to find there way back to intellectual honesty. There is a rational right in this country. Chuck Hagel former senator from Nebraska or Florida Govenor Charlie Crist come to mind. I may not agree with these guys on the policy but like former conservative leader William F Buckley these are people you can have a rational and honest debate with.

The Republicans are not only ignoring their the wishes of the country who obviously mandated a shift to the left but they are ignoring their own party members. Remember the the original field of republican candidates out of all the whack job far candidates the primary ended up producing Mccain who on that scale is the most towards the middle. So the republican party as a whole sent a message durring the primary that they wished the party would shift back towards the center. How dos the Republican leadership (wether you believe its Michael Steele or Rush Limbaugh or John Boenner) react to this? They think the problem is that they lost because they werent right wing enough. I heard a conservative commentater refer to this as republican nilism.

Now why is this bad for the democratic party? Well for people like me who consider themselves to be progressive or liberal we are at risk of being alienated by our own party. As long as the republican tent continues to close in on its self the democratic tent will open wider to accomodate the republican disenfranchised the end result will be a more conservative democratic party. Where the republicans closer to the center are pushed out from the right so to will the progressives on the lft.
