Re: $600.00
Sun, May 18, 2008 - 2:17 PMI'm putting all my tax return/stimulus money toward buying a new washer/dryer set. Exciting, huh? But since we are now under water conservation rules due to drought, buying a new washer that uses 60% less water is a timely idea.

Not being a tax expert, but considering you pay federal tax on a state tax refund (which seems wrong to me anyway), it's likely that stimulus check will be income on next years 1040, so get ready to pay an extra $200 or so, in 2009.
You can buy a lot of DVDs for $600 (or $400 if you save that $200) -

Re: $600.00
Sun, May 18, 2008 - 2:41 PMI will donate a good part of mine to the peace movement and other progressive causes.

Re: $600.00
Sun, May 18, 2008 - 3:50 PMNo, you won't have to claim it as income on your taxes. But everyone should consider that the money for the stimulus program was borrowed by Bush from China. So that's a great big IOU to China for us. And good luck trying to buy something not made in China. It's a double-fuck. -

Re: $600.00
Sun, May 18, 2008 - 4:49 PMUnfortunately, mine was substantially less. Regardless, it'll be going towards paying my Mac off, which I'm currently financing.

Re: $600.00
Sun, May 18, 2008 - 11:28 PMI'm buying a crash mat from Norbert's gymnastics. American made. And paying the fees for a professional rigger to rig a point in the 17 foot ceiling for my aerial tissue, so that I can now practice at home. I did think about what part of the economy I wanted to stimulate with my stimulus check, and American made or services preformed by Americans are the way to go, in my opinion.

Wed, May 21, 2008 - 3:55 AM"everyone should consider that the money for the stimulus program was borrowed by Bush from China."
Really? I feel it was borrowed from the people earning higher incomes. I'm not getting one red cent because I made more than the limit for the stimulous package. Enjoy my hard earned money. Could you guys buy me something nice ;) -

Re: $600.00
Wed, May 21, 2008 - 10:27 AMI'm getting a whopping $19.40 rebate. I think that'll cover about a quarter gallon of gas. ;-)

Re: $600.00
Wed, May 21, 2008 - 6:46 PMJamie what IS the limit? I honestly don't know and am just curious. I make like 40K which I don't think is very much at all in the Bay Area. Or anywhere really. I just wonder what the amount is? Not what you make. Just the amount that if you make over you don't get the stimulus check? And I may make 40K but I only take home 24. What up with that? lol Just for the record, people that don't make over the limit pay taxes too!!!! And I think poor people pay higher taxes than richer people. I could be wrong but I thought that's true.

Re: $600.00
Wed, May 21, 2008 - 9:08 PMM:
www.moneybluebook.com/breakin...e-check/
The proposed plan that is expected to be approved will provide one time check rebates of up to $600 for individuals or $1,200 for couples, along with an additional $300 for each child (classified as dependents under the age of 17). Low income people, including retirees on Social Security or Veterans disability benefits who earned at least $3,000 will receive checks of $300. Low to middle income people including retirees who made enough to pay taxes will receive higher tax rebates up to their net tax liability, limited only by their AGI. But so long as you paid taxes and made ($3,000 or more a year but less than $75,000 as a single individual), or ($3,000 or more, but less than $150,000 a year as a married couple), you will be entitled to the full tax rebate check.
If you exceed the adjusted income threshold, you may still get a rebate, but it will be reduced by 5 percent of the amount you earned above the adjusted gross income limits of $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for couples. Thus for example: A single filer with no children and an adjusted gross income of $80,000 ($5,000 over the limit), will see his or her rebate check reduced by $250 (5% of $5,000), and will receive a check for $350, instead of the full $600. Rebate checks will phase out completely for single filers who earn over $87,000 and for couples who earn over $174,000. -

Re: $600.00
Thu, May 22, 2008 - 11:18 PMWhat happens to those who file late, do you know? Will they get stimulus checks after they file, or are the checks only for those who filed on time. My boyfriend always files late, in October. I'm thinking he won't get a stimulus check because of it. He could really use one. -

YUK...wayyy too "Microsoft Clone" I'd rather spend the money on some new Quality Leathers,at least the Leather's will still be "In Style" five years from now.
Men's Suits havent changed in more than 30 years!(except for some "Exotically Expensive Fabrics") but the "Style" is all the same as they were in the 70's(except for those absolutally HORRID "Polyester Leisure Suits" LOL)

Sun, May 18, 2008 - 5:24 PMI wasnt going to buy anything but I found a $450 set of patio furniture on sale for $165 after tax at JC PENNEY Homo Store. ( Made in China. ) I can't imagine anyone paying 450 for it though. It's just two chairs a small table and two foot stools. But pretty nice. They look great out there and are very comfortable. I got some Golds Gym push up things and a Golds hump, uh, jump rope. I was gonna get the 3 dollar one but decided to splurge 7 on the better one. : ) The remaining 400 and something will go towards the $6,500 I owe VISA. -

Re: $600.00
Mon, May 19, 2008 - 5:13 AMThe idea of the payment was to buy, buy, buy to help the economy. I did half that. Bought a new energy efficient washing machine (hopefully it will help both the electric bill and the water bill), bought my children some clothes and paid off three bills. -

Mon, May 19, 2008 - 10:08 PMi've never been with a hooker. i've thought about what it would be like to have sex with a "male escort". if he was hot it might be fun but i don't do casual sex very well. i did have some private lap dances with a girl at a strip club, my friend thought it was hot and bought them for me - but god what a rip off. $60 for 15 min in a room. we didn't even really do anything (and she wasn't even that hot). -

Re: $600.00
Thu, May 22, 2008 - 7:53 PMI haven't gotten mine yet and I have no idea how much I'll get.
But I've thought long and hard about this eventuality, and I'm torn between two things:
1. Pay some credit card owed --- I've ALREADY stimulated the economy, thank you very much!
2. New sunglasses --- the D&Gs I got 8 years ago for $250 have finally died, after a long, happy, peaceful life on the front of my face. I've had them repaired, soldered, etc., and it looks like they are finally dead. (Personally I'd rather spend a bunch of money on something that is going to last (8 years in this case) and then make another investment. Sunglasses may seem shallow, but I live in an unnaturally sunny place with very sensitive eyes/vision.)
I'll be happy to get my check, but I don't see how it's really going to do anything for our economy. Whatever! -
-
Re: $600.00
Fri, May 23, 2008 - 6:14 AMI dont see how it's going to do much for the economy either but then I'm not a professional economist / analyst or whatever. I think paying more for quality items that last is great. Too bad I didnt think to get an Armani suit when I got my check. I could still get one. Hmm.
I don't know about if you file late. I always file on the first day possible so I can get a refund check asap. WU. -

Re: $600.00
Sun, May 25, 2008 - 7:46 AMHere's a bitch;
I have a kid who is 17. I had to claim her as a dependant. I got to claim her on Earned Income Credit. She netted me a nice $900 refund. However, due to the Stimulus Check rules, I do not get another $300 for her as a "dependant" because she's 17. If she was a year older, she'd be getting her own check, as she has a tiny income from Pizza Hut. If she was a year younger, my Stimulus Check would have been $600, but no...it's only $300, which was promptly deposited into the account I use for my property taxes.
So it's not $300 for "every man, woman, and child" in this income bracket: 17 year olds are left out.

Re: $600.00
Tue, May 27, 2008 - 6:37 PM>> I always file on the first day possible so I can get a refund check asap
Ever thought about paying less in taxes throughout the year?
Yes, you'd NOT have a refund, but being the diligent person you are, you'd have saved your underpayments in a high interest savings account to pay what is due in April of the following year.
You do have to make sure it's so little that you end up paying a penalty.
Another advantage is you also then never get a state refund for the same reason, which has the extra benefit of not having the federal return tax you on your state tax refund - which I never did understand: tax on an overpayment of money (after the Fed took their portion)
I'm not sure about the feasibility of this idea. Thoughts? -
-
Re: $600.00
Tue, May 27, 2008 - 6:50 PMI know the govt has that money interest free all year but I'm afraid if I change something I will owe. I NEVER want to owe. It's easy to just keep doing it the way I do it. Get the W2, fill out the 1040EZ in about 15 minutes and put a stamp on it. It's just too simple and easy to change.
-
Re: $600.00
Tue, May 27, 2008 - 11:58 PMYes, it's feasible. I have often in past years payed too little with each pay check (claim 2 persons when it's only me) so that when tax time comes I have to pay taxes. It makes sense to me, for my paychecks are larger all year, and why let the government use that money all year when I can make them wait till April of the next year to get it. And I don't like getting a state tax refund either, one more thing to have to report come tax filing time. Sometimes when the state owes me money I don't file if it's not that much, because an on-line filing service I use charges more for a state return than a federal one. -

Re: $600.00
Wed, May 28, 2008 - 6:27 AMAs single males in this Country we seem to get screwed by the Gov'mnt the most.
There's times Ive worked and got back some good Cash ammounts, and other times with lesser paying jobs that ammount I was getting back barely made it worth it to even bother to "file" that year.
One year it cost me almost the same ammount with the Tax preparer as it did to recieve the Return.
Taxation in America is a Bitch! -
