In your opinion, what was - or is - the most ridiculous-looking fashion trend of all time?
When it first started i thought that those drooping baggy pants were the dumbest thing i ever saw. urbangrounds.com/wp-conten...itches.jpg
But i'm somewhat used to it now.
And i'm sure there is worse.

Re: Worst fashion trend
Tue, September 22, 2009 - 3:17 PMWell going with the mullet seems too easy so I am going to have to say that first thing that came to my mind after the mullet was definetly the MC Hammer pants.
By all accounts Hammer is a hell of a nice guy but those I dream of alladin pants were quite possiblt the ugliest things ever. I still see people wearing vrsions of those that bug me too. You know those colorfuly patterned baggy pants the kind of things gawwd those are ugly.
Oakley sunglasses too Im mean are you seriously about to snap into a slim jim or what?

Re: Worst fashion trend
Tue, September 22, 2009 - 3:22 PMThose arent' even pants, they're long shorts! When they wear real pants like that, they drag on the ground, or the guy has to lift them up when he walks, like a lady with long skirts. I once saw a guy who had thumbtacked the hem of his pants to the heels of his shoes, so they wouldn't drag.
I personally think the 80s androgynous look was heinous, whether you choose Boy George, Annie Lennox, or Prince to represent it. But at the time, I thought it was the coolest. I just didn't have the bone structure to go pixie cut, or the insensitivity to pain to get multiple ear piercings. Yes, back then, piercings were just about the ears.

Tue, September 22, 2009 - 3:55 PMSkinny Jeans. WTF? -
-
Re: Worst fashion trend
Tue, September 22, 2009 - 4:36 PMYou know kinyon you are right. There are some womens jeans that are absolutley U-G-L-Y very few girls actually even fit into them so what ever fat they have is pushed up to the top. I was talking to my 16 years old little brother about this the other day and he told me that when the fat pushes up over the belt line of the jeans they call it "muffin tops"

Re: Worst fashion trend
Tue, September 22, 2009 - 5:51 PMLMAO... I luuuuv skinny jeans... but muffin tops are disgusting... if it is not for you do not wear it. I know that if I am wearing something form fitting, the best thing would be to wear some good underwear... I have corsets just for that purpose, I call them deception devices. lol -

Re: Worst fashion trend
Tue, September 22, 2009 - 8:46 PMI have to admit, that there are some girls who look really good in skinny jeans. But I NEED to say this: I am a bisexual man and I have never, NEVER seen skinny jeans look good on a man. And I agree with you Crystal, skinny jeans ARE NOT for every one. We have to learn to be honest with ourselves. I am not a small guy, so there are some clothes that are just mot for me, no matter how popular they are.

Re: Worst fashion trend
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 1:57 PMYeah, skinny jeans are pretty bad. I bought a pair recently, trying to embrace the trend. You can't bend your knees properly when wearing them. I've read recently, too, that some women who wear them every day are experiencing some kind of nerve problems in their legs.

Re: Worst fashion trend
Tue, September 22, 2009 - 4:43 PMso many, and so funny.
great topic Dave.
I look back at the uniform our crew wore in high school.
Super bells over motorcycle boots. White t-shirts and dark blue wind breakers.
The bells HAD TO BE torn to shreds at the bottom in back from walking on them.
Torn jeans are so normal now. Just maybe, we are responsible for this silly fashion.
LoL

Re: Worst fashion trend
Tue, September 22, 2009 - 6:50 PMIt bears repeating! Ooo, the shoulder pads.... I took them out of everything I wore, but kept them in a bag in my closet "just in case" - one guy thought they were an assortment of bra-stuffers.

Tue, September 22, 2009 - 6:56 PMI'm seeing an alarming increase of people coming into the morgue wearing torn, hole-spangled, or harrowingly beshitted underwear.

Re: Worst fashion trend
Tue, September 22, 2009 - 7:10 PMSince I am not one to favor formality (or conformity) I keep hoping that men will stop wearing neckties. They always seem uncomfortable and I just never understood their appeal. When I expressed this opinion in my youth I was told that I would grow to appreciate them. No.
Now well into middle age and I still think men look silly in ties. The tie trend has been around awhiile, but I still hope they go the way of the top hat and other fads of old.

Re: Worst fashion trend
Tue, September 22, 2009 - 7:44 PMOMG Dr. G... ROTFLMAO... do you know that was the very thing my parents would warn me about!... Always wear good underwear in case you fall ill and someone has to care for you... you don't want to be caught in bad underwear. -

Re: Worst fashion trend
Tue, September 22, 2009 - 8:02 PMYeah, Dr. G - way to get my mom talking in my head again. Not only do I now have to put on better undies (and buy a better bra and sit up straight), I'm going to have to start ironing my clothes again. (I stopped for a few years.) -

Re: Worst fashion trend
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 2:02 PMOf all bad trends, the pants worn with the waist at the thighs has got to be the worst. And it seems to be more than a *trend* as I've been seeing this look for 10 years now it seems. I had the thought the other day when seeing an otherwise gangsterly looking guy wearing pants draped on his thighs that since he had to walk with one hand holding his pants up that maybe it makes him look less scary, and so more likable, because if he had to pull out a gun suddenly his pants would probably fall down. So guys with pants like that are probably at least not packing a gun. One worries about that sort of thing in Oakland.

Re: Worst fashion trend
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 2:29 PMOkay, I really dislike the trend in women's tops being made of see-through material. The majority of women's tops, at least at the clothing store in which I work, Gap, are made with fabric that one can see through. So one must wear more than one top unless you like having everyone see what your bra looks like.

Re: Worst fashion trend
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 6:51 PMThat bad-ass chollo gangster uniform looks really silly to me --- you know, the enormous white tee-shirt, the huge black shorts which fall mid-calf, the knee-high white athletic socks. It looks clownish. I saw a rough-looking dude yesterday at the beach whose tee-shirt was so HUGE on him it looked like a dress. What's up with that?
Same with those falling down pants. Years ago I remember hearing it was prison chic or gangbanger chic or something like that. Whatever... I associated it with prison in my mind, so now when I see a dude with his ass hanging out like that I never think, "oooh, tough guy!", I think, "oh no, poor guy got raped...".
The muffin top is another example of people wearing clothes that just DO NOT fit them at all --- that's my vote for Worst Fashion Trend, people wearing clothes that simply do not fit. That and people who go to the corner market or Peet's in their pyjamas and slippers... What the hell is that?
Muffin Top, by the way, is the subject and title of Jenna Maroney's # 4 hit single in Israel, (from 30 Rock):
My muffin top is all that,
whole grain low fat,
I know you want a piece of that,
but I just want to dance! -

Wed, September 30, 2009 - 8:02 AMThose ball caps young guys wear that aren't really ball caps. They don't shape the bill, just leave them straight across and somethings where the hat sideways.

What about pants on backwards (a la Kriss Kross), The Box haircut, and that creative 'tight roll' people would use on their pants in the 80's?
