Considering we got 2 vets from the D.C. Punk scene on this tribe... Were there any riots at shows? L.A. always had them. But I never thought about it until now.

Re: Punk Riots in Wash DC
Fri, December 12, 2003 - 1:54 PMI didn't start going to shows here 'til around '84ish. NOt sure what happened in the 6 - 7 years before that (I lived in Pittsburgh at the time). I never saw any "riots." There was almost always some fisticuffs, but never an all out riot. You know, Positive Farce and all that. -

Re: Punk Riots in Wash DC
Fri, December 12, 2003 - 4:34 PMin early '81, i actually started what is known as the "st. anselms valentines day massacre riot" when g.i. tried to finish our set at john barry's catholic boys high school. trying to cut off an angry 19 yr old punk (me) in mid-set wasn't a good idea. things seriously went out of control when that happened... i'm still proud of that moment in dc punk history.
other than that: plenty of scuffles & punch-ups among bandmembers & assholes but nothing like cali-madness. -

DC punk riots in Boston
Sun, January 18, 2004 - 10:20 PMNot a DC riot, but a good one was started by the Meatmen in Boston (Alston) a few years back at Bunratty's (it was called something else then though) which shut the place down for good. It turned into a yuppie hell-hole meatmarket (the "wonderbar"- aka the wonderbra) after that. -

Re: DC punk riots in Boston
Sun, January 18, 2004 - 11:11 PMWhat was the cause of it? Those crazy Meatmen! -

Re: DC punk riots in Boston
Sun, January 18, 2004 - 11:54 PMI think that they played "Riot" and that was all it took-that was somewhere between 95 and 97- The club was called Local 186 or something like that around then. I wasn't at that show so I googled their name and riot and found some bootlegs-likely from that show-it's only 4 songs long, ending w/"Riot." Heh heh. It was a big deal at the time because that shut down the only rock club left in Allston, where (besides Cambridge) most Boston musicians actually lived at the time. Boston "hahd-coar" fans from Southie tend to get a little rowdy.

Re: Punk Riots in Wash DC
Fri, January 23, 2004 - 9:11 PMI started going to shows in DC in 79 and never saw a full out "fuk shit up and desrtoy property" riot. Lots of suburban white punx vs the black locals fights, plus saw some skinhead antics that verged on riots. Jackbooting faces at Cedar Crest. Oh yeah, then there was the time the skinheads rushed the stage at rock against reagan - I think that was the MDC/DKs year but there was always a good skirmish at that show.

Sun, January 28, 2007 - 10:31 PMlast saw kim (lefty) in 1988...last saw RAR then, too. can't remember real riots, usually just someone's mouth spurring the fringe, like deirdre
a lot of folks, like me, missed the point til there wasn't any left.
