Re: southern california?
Sun, May 7, 2006 - 2:46 AMWell I am a bit jaded
I have live in S.F way to long, I feel pride has sold out, its all so comceral now, its who can buy it these days.
With its high gloss magzine, and its all to pertty qay/ lesbian.. in it and its 15-18 adds for Alcohol adds.
Some of the same people in the adds , are the same Co. that use to be boycotted.
Well let me get off my soap box.
I do remember when I first came to one, I was like WOW. -

Re: southern california?
Sun, May 7, 2006 - 11:13 AMy'see, that's kinda how i feel about pride in general. it's a way for capitalist fucks to take advantage of a historically less exploited market, and sell all our socially encouraged/forced addictions back to us. but...like i said, i'm stuck in a racist, sexist, homophobic place right now, and the thought of being surrounded by thousands of other queers almost makes it worth it. though it is true that being mutually queer doesn't mean we neccessarily have more in common than anybody else, but at this point...i'm willing to give it a shot. and i mean, it is a bit of a rite of passage in some ways. i've only ever been to calgary pride (alberta, canada) and lemme tell you...a couple hundred folks marching in the pouring rain is more depressing than anything else, so i'd be kinda stoked to see something on a large scale.

Re: southern california?
Sun, May 7, 2006 - 11:40 AMmaybe it's just cuz I am a baby dyke, but I am so inspired by and stoked on all the people that I see at pride celebrations. I remember being at the fetish fashion show for pride last year in Victoria and realizing that I was in a room entirely full of queer/friendly people for the first time(that I knew of) in my life. It was an incredibly liberating experience. Also I am looking forward to the people watching possibilities.... -

Sun, May 7, 2006 - 12:46 PMa little from column A and a little from column B
seems like it has sold out, but there are some serious gems: the spoken word stage and the faerie freedom village (a commercial-free, money-free, grassy lounge space). you'll get a respite from the crowds, the banners, and the booze - and u'll see some hot folks with hot ink. -
