Commitment to Santo Daime

Hello,

I'd like to attend a local Daime ceremony some time but I've heard you have to become a member of the church ("fardado") first and once you are one they expect you to attend every ceremony from then on. How true is that? Since I don't know if it's gonna be my cup of tea (no pun intended;)) I'd rather not make such a commitment.
On the other hand someone mentioned here that the churches in Holland allowed "tourists", so I guess this is not a rule?

Also, what time of day (or night) do the Daime ceremonies usually start and end? Are the mid-week ceremonies viable for those who work 9-to-5?

hi ... from my experience it's not true. many attendees the few times i've gone were not members ... and i am not either.

you do have to be given an "orientation" by a leader.

but no one is ever required to do anything in the church.

i have been to 3 different kinds of works .... the dates and times vary greatly here.... some are at 12 noon ... and some late ... it depends on the kind of work you attend.

when you get in touch with them they can usually give you a schedule.

It seems my local branch does require commitment, and there is a waiting list and interviews... I give up ;)

hmmm... well ... i know all the branches are different ... i did have to interview and have an orientation. ... and i know only so many new people are allowed per service ... this is to make sure those who are really wanting to be there ... and supposed to be there ... are the ones there. ...

if it is meant to be ... it will ... if it's not the path for you ... don't worry about it at all ... you will end up where you need to be ...

i am learning to let go too!

        blessings!

Hi, I am looking for a branch here in London. I am south american and although drunk ayahuasca for more than two years it was in a different context, always with indigenous people. I would love to get in touch with the santo daime here, This is very interesting and would be a great opportunity to join one of the services too. I sincerely need some guidance at the moment. And I know how much light a service would give me.
Any information would be very much appreciated!
          Thank you

        Hey there --

In general, you are not required to be a member to attend a work. However, there are some exceptions -- notably, if a point (a place where you can drink) is new, they are not allowed to have non-fardados for at least six months. If you're having a hard time drinking where you are, you should just find a bigger point or church.
