Dietas?

A while ago, when I first became interested in Ayahuasca, I was hoping to be able to afford to go to Peru and meet a Shaman. But after seeing what it would cost, and more recent things that've kept me here, I couldn't go. Then I heard about churches like UDV and SD that sounded more appealing from nearly ever aspect than what I was considering before. \

One thing I remember being told is about Dietas for when taking Ayahuasca, so my question is, other than the obvious foods/meds you shouldnt be taking with Daime, do practioners in Santo Daime follow "dietas"?

    Hi Isaac,

I think I hear you asking a couple different things - and dieta can mean a couple different things.

In Amazonian traditions there are plant dietas - where one eats a very simplified diet of manioc or plantains (depending on where you are) and works with aya and another teacher plant (or combination of teacher plants) in an intensive way for several days. Usually there's a period of abstinence from things like meat, alcohol, and sex well before and after. It was actually in this kind of experience that Mestre Irineu received the living doctrine of the Daime.

In the SD there is a practice of not engaging in sex or alcohol consumption three days before and three days after a work. It's a way of respecting the medicine and keeping energies clear. Then again, that is just a basically guideline, and since we're all still human beings here, I'm sure there are some deviations from it...

As for nutrition, some people avoid red meat, some avoid garlic, onions, and heavy spices - which do tend to color the experience - and then some don't worry at all about what they eat.

Keep your prayer strong and heart guided and the right door will open for you, at the perfect time.

What a wonderful, informative and heart filled answer.

It's almost like I get a rush, the more I learn. The knowledge is great, I can hardly wait for wisdom from Aya herself!

      Thank you :)
