BBB: Big sound, bigger EGO

Hey everyone,
I just wanted to send a warning to all the DJ's and musicians out there. If you ever happen to be playing in a lineup with Breakbeat Buddha, don't let him touch your equipment. He has no respect or awareness towards other peoples musical equipment. In less than 10 seconds, he did more damage to my turntables than I have done in the 4+ years I have owned them. He torqued out the direct drive so severely that it wouldn't play for over a day. By the grace of the musical gods I got my turntable working again, but what he did more than likely took several years off of the lifespan of my equipment. In addition to this, he nearly blew the dual 15" towers atop 18" subs. Considering how much sound these speakers can pump out, this suggests an utter lack of respect. I just wanted to let the members of our community know what this guy is about. His music is decent, but his attitude is horrible. Thank you everyone for your love and support. A nice lecture by a law professor to his students on why not to talk to the police. pretty much ever. Both for themselves and their clients. There's also a followup with an officer about his interviewing techiques.

Another older video is Busted, which covers acted out scenarios of how officers negotiate situation and better ways of responding.

Knowing not to talk to the police is one thing, how to do it while the police are both being polite or threatening you is a lot trickier. Being able to answer "Do you mind if i just look in your car?" and the followup "If you aren't doing anything wrong, what's the problem?" is tricky and something you should practice mentally if not actually out loud in some role playing fun. :) (Well, i know i've blown it with officers when they've asked.)

A reminder to as many people as I can remind. Another sneaky California 'special election' as a way to help shady propositions pass when less people vote. Prop 98 and Prop 99. Property rights and eminent domain issues. Prop 98 would give landlords lots of neat new powers to fuck with renters and dissolve rent control. Progressive voices on NPR seem to think Prop 99 isn't so bad in comparison to Prop 98, but my default setting for proposition votes is 'no'.

Porta Potty Humor

I could not NOT share this humor....hope you all enjoy....I am still laughing!

Okay, I am washing my hands at a porta potty station at a festival...(Benbow Summer Arts) with some hand made soap a vendor left atop the station.....at some of the dirtiest portas at the place (the closest ones to the beer gardens and entrance/exit)) - and....

Two girls walk up to sink upon finishing their business in the potty...one says to the other, "EEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWW I am NOT washing my hands...do you know how many people have touched that soap?"

I was so perplexed...I could not even laugh,,,nor could I reply with a comment, like, "Well I am sure it was less people than the masses who just touched their asses and then the door you just held onto....."

Another funny -

Girl and Guy walk up to porta... she says to him, "Honey, could you hold my shit while I pee?"

TRYING SOMETHING NEW TONIGHT!

Tonight at the Red Fox I thought I would try something somewhat new, at least something I haven't done before. Instead of playing records that I bought, tonight I will be playing a set of all completely unreleased tracks by unsigned artists all over the world. I have found really cool and inspiring tracks from people from California and the rest of the US, Singapore, Germany (or Germoney as one german guy writes), Poland, Chile, and all sorts of other cool places. Lots of cool house, techno and trance music, and even some breaks and slower stuff as well. I think this will be nice to hear stuff that people are doing who are not necessarily big yet. I have noticed that I have been getting better responses from the original stuff that I have recently played than I have from the records I have just bought, even (especially) when the crowd is not aware of this, which says a whole lot. I think people are tired of listening to only the shit that comes out, and want to hear some real straight from the heart shit, even if it wasn't produced in a million dollar studio. Hopefully people will come out tonight and agree...

To my knowledge Touch is playing a regular DJ set, and we will have a non-"techno" guest as well.

Damage at Susie's Party...

I just got an estimate for fixing where my truck got dented at the party that we had at my house for Susie's birthday. Apparently it's going to cost more than $1,450 to get the front-left fender fixed. I thought it wasn't going to be that much, but it is, plus I wouldnt have a car for 3 days (I drive it for a living). This is extremely not a good thing. A couple of you almost claimed responsibility for it, but when confronted with reality seemed to back away. I can't prove that anyone in particular did it, but I know it was someone that was there that night, and I have heard a few eye-witness accounts that give me a pretty good idea who it was. Still there isn't much that I can do about it, unfortunately. I just bought this truck last year, am still paying for it, and will probably have to sell it soon if I move to NYC, and itwould have a lot less of value because of this. Anyway, just putting this out so people know whats up...

Does anybody know what happened with the warehouse on g st. near where 101 north was. It was known by it's address (wasn't it like 330 g st. or something like that?) I went to a few good punk shows there. I heard it was the guys from The Hitch who rented that place, but I can't remember. If anybody knows whose spot that was/is, i'd like to know. If it was The Hitch I think I still have Rashawns phone number somewhere...

There's also rumour that somewhere in oldtown theres a hidden rollerskating rink? Anybody know about this?

Who was it that did that party a few years back in the Lloyd building in Eureka? I think Brian played there... I remember the floor was about to give.

Navena (sp?) has the yoga place in the same spot we did "supplement" way back in '98 or '99. I noticed Sun mentioned something about using that place. It's been home to one of humboldts best parties already...

Teen Nights, Clean and Sober activities and dances.. etc...

well, i ve seen people talking about it... and so i am deciding to post this thread... i am speaking for my crew... we are willing to donate all sound, equipment, and energy into making this sort of thing happen...
being a recovering addict and alcoholic myself... i ve personally have seen what drugs and alcohol addiction can do to myself and others... i ve seen being clean and sober what it is doing to my friends and my community... and it is very sad... starting with our youth is important... it is all about the kids in the end...

i ve got a lot of ideas and support from my program and lot of people who would volunteer lend their support... really... its not just for kids, but there are really no cool clean and sober dance events in humboldt that is outside of NA and AA... and why is that? what is the thing of chemically altering our conciousness to have fun? to enjoy the music? the outdoors? the vibe? what is that connection with it? every event i ve gone to has drinking and using... Myself being a big contributer in the past... and i know i was wrong in doing so...
tim leary and ram dass(richard alpert) were talking one time outside of a cafe... and tim was telling ram dass how lsd was the way and the spiritual road and taking drugs was the key... and ram dass told him(he just returned from india) he found a new way, naturally, that altered his concisousness and was more fuflilling and kept him that way and happy more... he felt that using drugs/alcohol was nothing more then chemical masturbation, just a quick way to get off over and over that had the same result... which in a sense i would have to agree with ram dass...

so, i want to start making a postive contribution to our scene and to the community within the electronic scene and outside of it... i am not saying it is wrong or judging people, or saying anyone is bad in anyway... what i am just throwing out there is starting events for kids and others that want to have a clean and sober night, and have fun, fun, FUN!!!!!!

personally for me... going to this month's full moon, and the dancecenter sober have been two of the most memorable nights i have had... i ve never enjoyed the music or being with others as much before... i gotta say there were many trashed people at dancecenter and more people outside drinking then people inside dancing at times... and alot of people trashed just looking to cause problems... and that whole vibe weired me out big time... and at times made me want to leave... the music and friends was the only things that kept me there!!!

so anyone at all interested in getting something together, post on this thread or feel free to contact me personally... either on tribe or call me 707-616-8523...
we are our community, we make life happen!!!

SHOW Tonight!! Benefit for RAVEN Project.

For those that don't know the RAVEN Project is a non-profit organization based out of Eureka that provides services for homeless youth in our community. They have a house where they have free clothes (if you ever feel like donating some holla at me, they always need more), weekly gathering nights like Queer Coffee house, Girl Space and Art Space. NOT TO MENTION that they put on workshops to teach youth about healthy choices, and so on. THEY ALSO do a lot of street outreach passing out contraceptives, bleach kits (for needle users), clean socks, toothbrushes, and so on. THEY ROCK AND NEED LOTS OF SUPPORT.
So i'm reposting this for them.

The RAVEN Project is having a benifit show tonight in Mckinlyville at 6 Rivers Brewrey.

Spread the word and let people know Bucky Walters and Chapter Two are playing some awesome bluegrass tonight.

The show starts at 9pm and is $5( i think) and 21+(sorry young'uns).

And Keep your eyes peeled for an all-ages metal fabulous show in the next couple weeks, as another benifit for RAVEN. Its in the works, so i shouldn't spill thembeans yet but i promise it will be metal-rific!

Location: Movement Society Fire Troupe's house, Summer St., Eureka between Harris and Henderson, the house with the green porch light

Time: Is an illusion

What to bring: Wine (going wth the Greek theme), a goblet for your wine, finger foods (grapes, cheese, mediteranian stuff), and a toga. Those who come without a toga will be forced to party naked, unless they are ugly, in which case will be forced put on a toga.

Music: if anybody wants to bring tables, they should do so.

Orgy: You'll have to go to club risque' for that!

Birthday Floggings: Will be commenced at 12:00, Midnight. I have 22 coming to me, plus 1 to grow on.
