I know allot of you will be out of town the weekend of the 23rd, but for those
of you that will be in town I think you'll be interested in the New Almaden Day
Music Festival. Featuring members from Grampa's Chili, Bliss Ninnies, Bone
Pickers and Marty's Band (Corduroy Jim). It will be at the Community Center in
New Almaden from 2pm to 9pm and maybe a surprise jam after close by. Should be a
hum dinger.

Brookdale Blunders

All Brookdale Lodge shows are TBA for August. Bands are dropping off
and cancelling. I used to book there and they stiffed me my paycheck.
Restaraunt is closed due to them dumping their septic into the brook.
Bands are not getting paid....
so all the shows I already had scheduled for August there are TBA
until the bands and the lodge get it figured out.

How was your three day weekend????
I wished I was in a few places this weekend...
Bobolink, Desert Rocks, Santa Cruz Blues Fest, Bella Sol, etc...
But instead, this new mama visited a couple girlfriends on Friday night,
chilled at home Saturday and Sunday, then BBQd at my moms Monday
which included visiting with my nephews-which I adore and miss!

I heard Alana had a freakin rockin time in the desert and Bill worked his
butt off in Belden.... did Lobster have Hamachi?
What new dance moves did you learn this weekend???

Im not at the Zayante Hoedown Headquarters
preparing for the greatest Free Concert/ Party on Earth!

Nope, Im home with daughter and husband watching
Cinderella Man on TNT. We will be attending a 65th and 70th birthday
party in Sunnyvale for some family friends, though... so

I like this tribe. Bridget runs a good tribe. I also had a great conversation with Bridget the other day... about the "Good Old Days" at the Brookdale Lodge.

I want to start a thread about "The Brookdale Lodge" BEFORE it started getting nasty. Trust me... I've heard those stories and they totally amaze me how the crappy ex-owners treated many of you so horribly. How you brought bands, patrons, stokers... HUGE amounts of business to the place, booking rooms, buying drinks, buying food, paying for shows... and then being arrested by the same degenerate fools that took your patron money.

The reason for this thread is that some brave veterans of the 'good old days' came to see the Dave Stein Bubhub with DB show recently (holding the boycott because of ownership change)... and some great conversations were starting about how much fun it 'once was'. Who performed there, what types of GOOD things happened? Parades? Parties? Shenanigans? I wanna hear those stories. Please... tell me a story?

Last night it was to Booker T Jones band.
My sister and I went to the Little Fox and saw this Hammond legend.
What a freakin treat!
While I comfortably sat in a center balcony chair, the little
baby girl growing inside of me was totally rockin out to Green Onions,
and other Booker T gems!

Definitely looking forward to some 5EH, and BSC at Don Quixotes
in February,,,,

My year with Henflings is coming to a close.
Celebrate the final Chickentoss Thursday blow out with WUBAKIA next Thursday
the 18th. Its going to be a Birthday Celebration (for my 35th! the night before)
and WUBAKIA is one of the greatest new Santa Cruz bands I've heard.
They've covered the Best Punch You In The Eye ever! (yes, even better than some
Phish versions... lol my favorite band sucks, too)

you may have seen them at Moe's, the Paul Sweet House, or HEnflings...
Maybe a party or two... They smoke!

I can't tell you how much it has meant to me to see you regulars and you
once in a whiles out at Henflings. That place has some insane energy,
and we had a real good time.

I will no longer be booking events at henflings, but all previous bookings stand.
Please come out for Wubakia next week, then GREENSKY BLUEGRASS
the following Wed OCt 24th. There are a few more shows to visit... and I will post them here.

No cover Thursdays were fun. I met a lot of great local talent, and I will continue to work
with these great bands. Without Chickentoss Thursdays, I'd never have fallen in love
with my fiance, Iain... (Yep! We're getting married!)
I would have never heard ON THE SPOT (sick organ trio!)
I would never have known about a lot of the SC locals like Loan Me a Dime, PGB,
Wubakia, etc.
Thanks for taking the time to dance with us! and lets continue to do so.

I found this trio at Bobolink Music Festival, and while I usually
do not enjoy the electro sets as much as others, I was sure
to check out each of this bands performances. Nice kids
playing NEW music. I diggit and hope you will give it a try.

Thursday Night sound changes

As many of you know, Kylan is moving out of state (or already has).
Well, our good pal Brett has been doing sound on Thursdays, but has
a lot of other projects he works on, so he has asked the sweetness
that is Iain Haworth to take over Thursday Night Sound duties!
Iain said yes! So we are really getting this Henflings thing together people!
With you there dancing, Iain on sound, me on Racer 5, its really becoming
a family afair! Iain has been volunteering to take over the board on the many nights that
the board gets abandoned. We would have never heard the music the way it
is intended without his assistance. What a gem!

Thanks everyone for helping make this the greatest place to be on
Thursday Nights. Every week I learn something new and see a new light
to our local music scene.

They have made/ distributed handbills.... something about a 5 string mandolin and

HUGE thanks to the Chickentoss Thursday cru for bringing the heat to
Henflings last night. It was great to see Chris bouncing back to his
energetic self on stage. Some treats included Sam , Zanardi, and Garrin
improvising to a poem. It was the first time those two guitarists met and
performed together, and it shouldn't be the last.

Making Dinner is an all female rock band from SF.
They are coming all the way down to Henflings to entertain us
with their witty songs and stylish music. They are catchy, and they

Straight out of the kitchen, Making Dinner is an all-female San Francisco favorite that has been labeled indie, folk, and pop – all in one breath. Fronted by singer/songwriter Eva Jo Meyers, the band is driven by bassist Katie Pilat and drummer Zarah Gamaldi. The sound is rounded out by the mellow richness of cellist Marianka Madey and is pumped up by the scatting, harmonic back-up vocals, accompanying guitar, and percussion of Devorah Rosner.
Joining musical forces to perform for a fundraiser to fight breast cancer, Making Dinner was a crowd favorite from their very first show. The band continues to draw large numbers of fans, elicit righteous hollers, and lead audience sing-alongs with original material ranging from the indie-inspired “Cool Like You” to the tear-inducing “Lay Me Down”. Glued together with catchy choruses, their music evokes vivid images of joy and angst prompted by Eva’s descriptive and, at times, ironic lyrics.

Referred to by San Francisco radio station, KFOG DJ, Dave Morey as “not bad”, Making Dinner’s airplay debut occurred in conjunction with the station’s New Year’s Resolution status check-in with Zarah and prompted additional re-airing of the interview. Becki's most recent CD, God's Empty Chair features appearances from both Dave Gregory (formerly of XTC) and Lyle Workman (Todd Rundgren, Frank Black, Beck). Andy Partridge wrote a song for the album. Becki says, “the music is a mixture of rock and heavy-pop, with a touch of psychedelia and middle-eastern influences nestled in between.” Her debut album, seven worthies . . . of the bamboo grove, also features the talents of Dave Gregory.
