Does anyone have any good recommendations? I feel that I'm learning the moves, but when it comes to pulling them together into something pretty, I'm pretty spastic.
I don't mind when it's just me dancing for me, but I do want to look a wee bit polished and elegant when BF or Family watch me.
All suggestions will be accepted most gratefully.

Re: Choreography DVDs
Wed, September 27, 2006 - 2:14 PMAmira Mor has a video called Belly Dance your Way to Cardio, which I enjoy (I've been studying for a year). She breaks the video into sections for lower body shimmies and upper body shimmies. A lot of these moves will be use later in the video when she choreographs a drum solo. I think she does a decent job of breaking down the moves, if you are already familar with the basics.
It is not the highest quality production, but she is pleasant and seems very sweet. She leads a class of about 15-20 women. The choreography is taught in two parts and reviewed after each part and again at the end. Afterwards is a performance where Amira does a turkish drop all the way to the floor.
If you like a bargain, Amira has converted her videos to DVDs and you might be able to get a videotape for $5. http:www.amiramor.com
Her video is also available on netflix.com which is where I rented it. I don't know the song or where to find it, so that might be a problem if you want to perform it for your family and BF.

Re: Choreography DVDs
Thu, November 23, 2006 - 7:07 AMThere are lots of great choreography videos available as well as videos that will help you to improvise more effectively with tips or combinations.
Jillina's "Instructional Bellydance with Jillina" is very good and features a level 1,2 & 3. Each video teaches you several combinations (also has a warm up and breakdown of basic moves) and then takes you through a complete choreography step by step. Each of the choreographies are beautifully put together. She also has a drum solo choreography video and egyptian pop choreography video but I've not watched those two myself.
Many famous dancers have choreography videos on their websites. Suhaila, for example, has three available on suhaila.com. I have not seen them yet, though they are on my Christmas wishlist : ).
Ansuya's videos "Lavish Layers" and "Hot Combinations" would be very helpful to you for pollishing your technique and adding some spark to the performances. She's an amazing teacher! She also has one on Finger Cymbals available which is very good, when you're ready to introduce a little something extra into your performances.
Sera's new "East Coast Tribal" from worlddance.com is an excellent learning tool for some great tribal fusion combinations. A very enjoyable video to boot.
For great tips and helpful examples on improvising your performances effectively, you can get "Bellydance Jam" with Bellyqueen. It's fun and comes with a soundtrack CD.
"The Art of the Drum Solo" with Sonia & Issam is a great beginner's tutorial on drum solo work. It offers lots of helpful advice and provides you with a very pretty choreography that serves as a base guideline for other drum solo work. It also comes with a soundtrack CD.
Dolphina's "Goddess Workout" series is a fun and easy-going beginner's intro to bellydance and each DVD has an easy to learn choreography at the end. CD's are available to buy for each.
"The Heartbeat of Belly Dance" with Jenna and Raquy by Worlddance is another drumsolo tutorial and features three great looking choreographies, progressing in difficulty, as well as shimmy drills to help pollish your technique. Music for each choreography is available to buy.
The "Discover Bellydance" series with Neena and Veena has a simple choreography on each of the DVD's as well as instruction for many aspects of the dance that are often left out of most other videos.
"Bellydance for Romance" is a cute, fun and easy-going video that offers a few creative tips on bellydancing that you may find useful when performing for the boyfriend : ).
There are so many MANY more out there from more dancers than I can think to name at the moment. But I hope this list helps.
Happy Dancing! -
