So, I'm going to turn this into an opportunity for us. I'm now taking nominations for which tribes I should join and work this delicate magic. Of course, while I'm out there frantically trying to post the last three entries in a nested thread, I'll be extolling the virtues of this here weekend getaway, which will swell the ranks of this tribe, eventually draining all other tribes of their population and swelling this one to encompass the world. Being the original members of this tribe (as of 4:51pm PST on May 10th, 2008), the swarming teeming masses writhing on the ground in pain, agony, ecstasy, desperation, and longing, will all look up to us as their higher beings, worthy of adoration and worship.

Hey, this sounds like Burning Man.

Okay. After much thought and heated debate, the theme of this photo contest is:

So there you have it. Go forth and photograph! Here are the full rules:

How it should work:
A) The theme/category will be announced on a Monday, the "start date." Pictures may be submitted any time after that until...
B) Discussion/judging begins the following Monday (a week after the start date).
C) A winner will be announced the Wednesday or Thursday following that.
D) The winner will be determined by popular vote of this tribe's participants.

Contest rules:
1) The photo must be an original, even if it's taken with a camera phone. Apart from that, there are no rules/regs on the nature of the photo, provided you're not breaking any laws.
2) One photo per participant, please.
3) Post the photo in this tribe's gallery with "For [insert theme] Contest" in the title.
4) All photos except the winning entry will be deleted from this tribe's album.
5) The winner will get kudos, warm fuzzies, hearty congratulations, and maybe a cookie.

I recall a recent lament that this tribe will never reach 100 members. This was tossed back and forth between Mickey and Zareen, who I'm sure, in some previous life, had a thing going on, otherwise they would not be as thick as thieves now. But I digress.

100 is such a nice round number. Not for those of us who are real nerds. We would go for 64 or 128. But never mind. If you know why that is, welcome, and clean your thick glasses, I'm sure they need it. If you don't, don't worry about it; we outnumber you and eventually one of us will have your credit card number. But I digress.

100 is a good number for humans, who after all count in base 10, because of 10 fingers on hands and 10 fingers on toes. Which actually has alot to say for how good our ancestors were at running down wild animals or keeping from being run down by wild animals. If you think about it, for humans to develop a base 10 number system, most of them would have had to have 10 fingers and 10 toes to count with. I'm pretty sure it would be 10 fingers. It would be silly to have to bend down and count to 10 with 10 toes while you have nine or less fingers, while running at fill tilt with a saber tooth something or other charging up your ass. If that was the case, we would all be waiting for our respective boy/girlfriend to turn 20 before having carnal relations, 20 being 18 in base 9, if our ancestors were on average missing one finger. But I digress.

So, this is a call to arms. A plea for help. A request for assistance. Tribe members, start you engines, and invite your friends, acquaintances, family members, any schmuck on the street, to reach the goal of 1100100 (for the hardware nerds), 0x66 (for the software nerds), 202 (for the high energy physics geeks who for some reason like to count in base seven, don't ask my why), 100 (for all normal people) members.

A short digression into SF lore ... Back in 1978, at a time when I was thankfully not yet part of the Bay Area, SF mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk were gunned down by former supervisor Dan White. The defense claimed that Dan was hopped up on sugar from eating Twinkies, hence the origin of the Twinkie defense.

Today I read an article about a murder trial in the Bay Area where the defense claimed the platypus defense: odd and unattractive, but not guilty of murder. So, not to imply that anyone in this tribe has committed anything close to murder, unless we include the murder of the English language, or the murder of a sense of propriety, but ...

What sports car?

I think I may have caught a disease over the weekend.

I was walking around taking pictures with a friend, and stumbled upon an old, restored Porsche (sitting outside an orthodontist's office, what a cliché!). No sooner did I haul out my camera, when 5 guys (yes, they are gonna be guys) gathered around and started ogling and drooling over the thing. So we chatted, I took pictures, but later discovered that the 5 guys, in their collective wisdom, were telling me the wrong production dates for the car. And now I'm having an ISSUE over this. They said it was probably a 1962, but the car is clearly a 356c T6, who's production did not begin until 1964. Oh god! I don't know their names, but I have them on film (well, JPEG), and I know where they were last Saturday, so now I have to find them and tell them that they were WRONG about that car!

So, clearly, I caught something over the weekend, metaphorically speaking, because this kind of behavior is not typical for me. Which leads me to ask the following question ...

If you had your dream sports car, what would it be? And ... I know I'm bucking the rule here ... it doesn't have to be a low rider.

I have no idea why I'm asking all you folks this question. I'm hoping that, at least in the area of cheese, you are the wise and erudite ... blah, blah, blah. But here goes ...

I've been anointed as the organizer of a cheese tasting party, despite my best efforts at weaving and ducking. Now for background, let me tell you a little bit about myself and cheese. I've been told that I'm a cheese snob, but that's just because I'm very particular about the kind of cheddar cheese that I like, namely ... as sharp as I can get. And that characterization was from a teenager. Otherwise, the sum total of my greater knowledge of cheese comes from ... Wallace & Grommet, and Monty Python.

So, what the hell do I do? Help, oh discerning and cultivated ... blah, blah, blah.

I still don't want to hear any racial slurs(That can be considered as truly offensive to the majority of the human race), or see anything related to child porn, bestiality, or poop, but if it comes to mocking size(This can relate to both genders, and the falsities of the cultures, as relates), with HUMOROUS photos, or the like, I'll let that slide, as long as the boundary isn't reached into racial slurs. I reserve the right to delete things that come to close to the illegal lines, regardless of if you grabbed pics from a, supposedly, legit site.
There's humor in many things, including stereotypes, but when done with hatred in one's heart...create a tribe for yourself, as I will delete it. If done on repeated posts, you will be deleted too. I don't have a problem with people testing the boundaries, and I haven't chosen to run something adult related on the net, but..., might as well, as I don't, typically, wear masks, except for work, where necessary.
All that, said and done...
