Does anyone else find that some days are really good dance days, and other days just aren't?
I'm finding that on the days when I'm really busy at work, stressed etc, it's much harder to pick up new moves in class (or even perfect old ones).
I wonder if its a left brain/ right brain thing? I work pretty long hours (most days 8-6 and then straight to class) in a fairly stressful job, so I think perhaps by the time I get to class my brain hasnt has a chance to switch over into the creative dance/music side of things... I definitely find its easier and more fun to dance when I'm relaxed. Anyone got any thoughts on this?

i don't really have good or bad days but sometimes i also get to class feeling frazzled because i did not have enough time to mentally prepare for class or I was too rushed in getting dressed. On such days it takes a while longer to get into the swing of things. The good thing tho is that no matter how badly my class has started, I always feel like a belly dancing queen when I leave. Sometimes I feel like i could shimmy all the way home.

I definitely leave class more relaxed than when I arrive - I tell anyone who asks that my belly classes are the best stress relief ever - but I do get frustrated when I cant do something/get a move right.
I think you are right about the mentally prepared part - getting in character is important. I think i need to try and leave work earlier so that I have a bit of time to get dressed and feel more like a belly dancer and less like a rushed office worker! -

I could try to incorporate a few moments (minutes?) to 'get into character' during the warm up. It would be nice to create a short ritual that we could all do to get into the right frame of mind... I sometimes find that when everyones very frantic before class it takes me longer to get into it. It's like we need time for our energy to settle...

I know exactly what you mean about how difficult it is getting into the right frame of mind! My job doesn't help either :( (I generate images of dead plants basically, how boring is that?)
I find just focusing on one positive thought during the warm-up or a candle light and letting my mind go really makes a difference, which is why I really like the low lighting in class now as I don't feel too self-aware and am more in touch with the music. Finding time to put on some pretty make-up or clothing I like also helps me get 'in character'.
However, same days are just bad and there ain't nothing you can do about it except laugh at yourself!
