Yoga for Dancerspublic - created 06/13/08 |

These questions pop up in all sorts of dance or yoga tribes, so I thought I'd create a space for dancers to put all these questions together.
Yoga is an amazing practice for dancers, athletes, and gymnasts. Why? The practice of yoga builds balance, strength, endurance, and flexibility. Too often our lovely dancers live with injury or pain, believing that it comes with their training and it's just a part of dancing. While there are some injuries that end up needing surgery or physical rehabilitation, I believe that a dedicated yoga practice can not only help rehabilitate dancers with injuries, but strengthen the muscles and joints to prevent injury from happening in the first place.
Beyond the subject of physical rehabilitation or strengthening, yoga also helps dancers with stage fright, creative blocks, and focus. It can increase your range of motion, lengthen and tone muscles, and provide a much-needed boost to the circulatory, digestive, respiratory, endocrine, and nervous systems.
Post your questions, comments, experiences, and tips here! All styles of yoga and dance are welcome!
PLEASE NOTE: As in all the discussion-based tribes I moderate, there is a strict "NO SPAM" policy in place. Listings for sales, websites, and personal promotion unrelated to yoga and it's relation to dancing WILL BE DELETED. Please use the "Listings" section to promote anything unrelated to the tribe's purpose.
