Thu, December 11, 2003 - 1:22 AMThis one has had me stewing for months, but never fear as Dario has decided to, yes, finish the trilogy. I hated Inferno, so I can't say that I have the greatest of expectations here. Also, being a fan of the De Quincey essay on which it was slightly based, I think he took the wrong route, chronologically. But, I'll take it over a remake, I guess.
I wonder if the remake propelled him to finish up.

Even though I read that he accepted suggestions from the star of his new film, I doubt that he'd let anyone boss him. I mean, look at how most of the scripts fall apart during the second half. No one's been able to remedy that.

I thought Inferno was great, but wouldn't consider Dario faithful to DeQuincey at all.
Dario's washed up, sad to say.
Last decent output was Phenomena, and that was 'iffy.'
The closer of the trilogy might be good if Daria Nicolodi directed.

Fri, December 12, 2003 - 7:43 AMYou're right. He wasn't very faithful to it, but I thought that Suspiria did embody some of the atmosphere created by the prose. I didn't find that to be true of Inferno, though. (What a slow pace!)
I wonder if he'll use Simonetti again, as he scored the new film. I have to say that I'm never disappointed by Goblin/Simonetti's scores. (The remix cd and Welcome to the Boogie are another matter.) -

I suppose in Inferno I just like to appreciate the Bava-like qualities of the shots, and the subtle symbolism, the hidden stuff.

Also, Hollywood has no business remaking Argento's masterwork, as they've been ignoring him for years. But...this is nothing new...Romero...Hooper. I hope the Head Mistress-Elena Marcos casts a sinister shadow over this production! Just fucking back off Hollywood and be "original"! Or else...

Thu, March 24, 2005 - 9:59 PMWhatever happens, it's not like a stupid remake will any way alter the fact that the original is wonderful. I also love Inferno, actually Inferno is probably my favorite Argento film. If the remake is made, and it sucks, it still means more people will see the original.
As for the lack of faithfulness to De Quincey- please. Neither of the movies were intended as faithful adaptations of De Quincey. Argento/Nicolodi just took some ideas from the book and ran with them.
