Inside - Argento like film

so, I know it isn't Argento, but I still wanted to give props here, as an Argento fan, and the way this director gives nods to what appears to be his influence. Usually I just browse through various films and much of what comes out today is pretty pale in intensity and, dare I say depravity while still holding onto something of a story plot that is original and interesting. Recently I have discovered that the French are not fucking around when it comes to this style. I watched 'À l'intérieur' ('Inside' is the American translation) last night...holy crap! It is funny to see what we hold onto in the country as taboo...honestly, in film here stateside there isn't much, but one thing we do cling to is the pregnant woman and her role as the victim. This film went beyond that taboo in a stylish way that really had me from the start. There were a few moments that didn't quite make sense and I guess were in there due to continuity of the story, as well as your typical "dumb" mistakes, but overall I am pleased to say I had my boundaries pushed, and pushed hard.

One of the things I really appreciated by the film was the cinematography itself...very Hitchcock and Argento in style and lighting as well as mood building and character development. The villain has got to be one of the most psychotic characters I have seen on film, ruthless and caring in her own style (and mind), it really opens up, once you think about it to who is more grounded...the victim or killer?

So, yeah, if you can find it (it won't be in your average video store) I recommend it. I -do NOT- recommend it if you are squeamish, have issues with brutal horror, or are pregnant. At all. Like I said, it pushed the envelope into horror areas that haven't been touched upon too often here in this country, or really anywhere, and it goes way beyond what 'Saw' or 'Hostel' did....makes them look like an episode of 'Happy Days'.

From the effects, to the score, to the acting..it is there, and well made for its genre and something that many of its peers miss in their films.
