I once had a friend's corn snake slither into my shirt... and I would have liked to continue with this slinky, erotic feeling. Well, I politely removed the snake... but ... hey....

Re: Erotic Snakes
Tue, April 15, 2008 - 5:16 PMWhen I think of Snakes in relation to the Goddess, I think of Shakti and power before I think of Desire. There's the Goddess from a Greek Island that holds two snakes in her hand which are pointing upwards, and you have Nagas, and you have serpents as jewels on Tara Maa, You also see sometimes with Durga/Bhavani and Maha Kali a serpent in her hand as Shakti or power. The mother is present in everyone as Kundalini Shakti, the "serpent" like power that is everyone's life force. This is so misunderstood by many people. In most people it lies dormant. Through Sadhana, and the power of a Skathipat, the serpent can awaken in the Muladhara. Through intense devotion of the diety that is you personal diety or Ishtadevata, this serpent power identifies and becomes that diety making it possible for the diety to speak to you, and appear before you. In some cases when the person is not properly trained and the Kundalini awakens many problems can occur including madness and death, especially if she does not have a diety to identify with and a proper Guru to help guide her. Also many people think that you can just turn your Chakras on and off like a light switch and guide your Kundalini to them. This is not really the case per se, especially with people who have not yet had their muladhara awakened through a Shaktipat. Also once Shakti reaches Shiva in the Sahasra, that is when you stop self-identifying all together with your ego, and unless God has plans for you to become a Jivan Mukti, your body will cease to function. There are 6 bodily Chakras, and 3 out of body Chakras that come with being liberated. You must lose your body in most cases for you Shakti to travel there or at least be away from your body.
To me this is what the Serpent and the Goddess represent. The Mother is also present in the Universe and manifest the Universe with desire. WIthout the desire of God to manifest through Shakti to become manifested as every form and everything there would be no Manifested existences. Shakti also has the desire to be with her Shiva, so when the serpent is active she has this desire.
And as always, this is truth for me, it may not be truth for you. I am not qualified to present anything I say as factual truth, or something that should be believed as truth for you. This is just my take and what I think of when I think of the Goddess and serpents.

Re: Erotic Snakes
Tue, April 15, 2008 - 7:53 PMI am not fond of snake poop. having had snakes crap all over me, my view of them as erotic is diminished. I do think they are good symbols of power and energy, but not so much for eroticism, although those big snake-orgies are probably fun for the snakes. -

Tue, April 15, 2008 - 10:28 PMOoooooo yyyyaaaaaayyyyy!!!! I'm gettin a corn snake soon. I'm a bellydancer, and I love to watch the snake (any type) move, and then try and incorporate that movement within my dance.

Re: Erotic Snakes
Wed, April 16, 2008 - 12:34 AMMay you and she become good friends. Snakes are very special beings.
For myself I have never met a snake I haven't liked. ;) I love snakes, all kinds... from the little garter snakes I'd catch when I was young, and sometimes carried around in my shirt, to the midget faded rattler I encountered on a desert trail some years ago who reminded me to stay aware of my surroundings as I traversed her domain. (I got that message pretty quick, and hence painlessly, I must add...)

Thu, April 17, 2008 - 6:33 AMSerpent wisdom
Snake and kundalini, also known as shakti is the most powerful thing the human body contains.
Thje kundalini works best when erotic, not crudely sexual that leads to energy depletion
It is feminine in nature as the Golden Dawn , Rosicrucians ....you name the organisation, found out. The male leaders at the top know that very well but hide the fact for obvious reasons. Men that have a well-developped anima/feminine do also.
These pyramidal, usually male power structure strived to own and controll it, and still do. but the truth is that the feminine (for lack of a better wod) holds the real power.
It is the best well-kept secret under all the repression.

Re: Erotic Snakes
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 7:57 AMThje kundalini works best when erotic, not crudely sexual that leads to energy depletion "
Maybe it should read : erotic works best when using tantra as a sublimation of the kundalini (or lifeforce energies) as opposed to crudely sexual.
The kundalini is also refered to as snake energy.
Perhaps you were not using "Erotic Snakes" in that context.
As for the Western misconception - hope we are not invoquing anything rodeo for the dark goddesses - I think i may have an idea of what you mean about the kundalini but I would like to hear you explain. -

Re: Erotic Snakes
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 2:25 PMmany non-western Tantriks don't use sexual energy or practices to arouse Kundalini. why? the reasons vary from completely ineffective to extremely dangerous.
an article worth reading on the subject ::www.yoga-age.com/articles/kundalini.html
a quote from the above --
"...where the kundalinо has been prematurely or wrongly aroused, that is, in the absence of adequate preparation. The Tantric scriptures emphasize the need for thorough groundwork prior to adopting any practices that aim at awakening the serpent power directly. As the fourteenth-century master Svвtmarвma states, the kundalini "bestows liberation on yogins and bondage on the ignorant."5 A sharp knife in the hands of a skilled physician can save a life but in the hands of a fool can do irrevocable harm. The kundalinо in itself is neither good nor bad. It simply is the Goddess energy as it manifests in the human body. Unless we consciously collaborate with it, it remains on the most subtle level of existence, sustaining us through the agency of the life force (prвna) but never entering our field of awareness. Through self-purification and an appropriate course of disciplines, we can benefit from it more immediately by inviting it into our life as a powerful transformative force."

Re: Erotic Snakes
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 4:09 PMI don't find snakes sexy either, but I do find them fascinating and beautiful and I feel they're an extremely appropriate sign of power in motion and of the Goddess in many guises. It's the way they move that is sensual, I think, because they press their muscles against the earth and the way they do it causes them to move. In bellydancing, particularly more traditional forms, there's a custom that when a really good dancer does a taxim (a very slow solo, with snakelike moves, but which is not meant to be sexy actually, but to demonstrate skill and to be very expressive emotionally - the dancer's chance to put her own deepest, strongest self out there) - anyway, when a dancer hits a certain point in a taxim where she has drawn everyone into her personal energy and people watching begin to realize this has happened, they will start to hiss, like snakes, as an expression of admiration and of feeling the energy. Which has I guess always been viewed as snake energy. And you do feel the energy, there's a sudden lock that happens, with a good dancer, and you are locked into the dance with her.

Re: Erotic Snakes
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 11:28 AMI think that snakes or serpents carry many meanings and their wonderful symbolism is complex.
I am aware of the dangers linked to the forced awakening of the kundalini and very lucky that it simply awoke on its own in an event that was probably the strangest in my life.
It is naturally active in me.
I was seing it in reverse as in softly harnessing sexuality (or the raw unawakened kundalini power) and reversing it as to flow upwards as to evade energy depletion but it needs practice. The erotic snake energy is directed for healing, for example, or creating magik.
The kundalini is feminine.

Re: Erotic Snakes
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 1:30 PMI think ultimately that snakes can be viewed as erotic externally because of their phallic nature, and internally it can represent eroticism as the form of Maya which seduces and enchants many, Shakti in the form of power which can be enchanting to some, but when abuses is destructive. But when there is purity and the inner serpent of old is looked on as emanation of Mother, there is no longer any eroticism. The Kundalini Serpent should be tamed through devotion or it will kill you when it jumps out of it's coiled position. When the erotic forces are tamed, all can be pure. The first thing to have balanced is your base desires which can help with the desire to transcend, but can be out of control in the form of insatiable sex drive as one of many problems that can be the result of untamed kundalini.
