Nephthys (also known as Nebhet) is an Egyptian Goddess who is often overlooked in place of her light-twin Isis, the more popular and well-known Goddess. Nephthys is an important deity however as she embodies the dark energies which help to balance our lives. Associated with darkness and death, Nephthys is also the Goddess of rebirth. Some mythologies say she has the wings of an owl which comfort us in our hour of death, as she leads us into the afterlife.

It is little-known that there were healing centers dedicated to Nephthys, this shows a new aspect to this dark goddess that most people don't associate with her. When it comes to darkness, she is a healer, as she can help us get in touch with our dark sides, bringing us into balance with the light, which leads to healing.

The story of Nephthys is dark and difficult. She was destined to marry Set, the dark-twin to the light god Osiris. The marriage was not a happy one like the marriage of Osiris and Isis. In fact Nephthys secretly yearned for the relationship of her sister and Osiris, so much so that one desperate night she seduced Osiris and deceived him into thinking she was Isis. The child they conceived from this one night union (Anubis) was a balance of the light of Osiris, and darkness of Nephthys.

This balance put him in a place to rule the afterlife (underworld) which became his place. The mythology says that he was born with a jackal head and in her horror Nephthys abandoned him to the marshes. Here he was found by Isis who adopted him as her own son and raised him. All of these actions lead to great judgment against Nephthys.

Set was enraged to learn about her deception and the child. He killed Osiris and later on he cut Osiris' body into many pieces and dispersed them all over Egypt. Nephthys eventually gained the courage to leave Set and joined Isis in the search for Osiris' body parts, she was welcomed back into Isis' life and even helped resurrect him from the dead. She stayed with her sister after that and helped with healing of the people.
