The Beginning

I had always been afraid to try Datura because of the scary stories people tell. I should say that I've still never taken enough to hallucinate; maybe when I find the right admixture plants to make the experience more pleasurable. But so far I've had fun and success smoking the plant, mixing it with other herbs, etc.

The first time I decided to try it I took ONE leaf from a small plant in a park. I barely let it dry and smoked a TINY bit of it and could immediately tell there was something there. Not much change though. The next time I gathered several flowers from huge plants growing by the sidewalk next to a gas station. I had read one report on erowid that claimed the stamen was the best part of the plant to smoke, so I tried that next. There is a slight difference, perhaps only mental, from smoking the leaves or the flowers. The stamen seem to be more glowy and sweet, the flowers come in second, and the leaves are the most coarse.

After smoking a very small amount I notice perceptual changes. Staring, listening, wondering why I'm staring and listening, etc. There's also an interesting body rush -- if you're paying attention or smoking enough -- that is of course sped up and intensified by smoking tobacco. It feels internally hot and cold at the same time and a little sexual. If you grab on to the feeling energetically and encourage it, it can be very sexual.

After one medium sized bowl there's a noticable loss of motor coordination. The pipe is harder to load, doors are harder to open, and walking is a little tricky, but any stoner will get used to it in a matter of minutes. I can only liken the body disconnection to small doses of K. After two bowls all the effects are markedly increased and only increase with time. They "peak" after about an hour. Breathing becomes low and regular, you're extremely relaxed and tired. Vision becomes slightly impaired and jumpy, but I attribute this more to the sleepiness than anything else.

After two bowls and an hour or so it's very easy to fall asleep. Don't. That's when you're most fully in the experience. I'm still experimenting with other admixture plants to perhaps add some energy to the experience. Pot makes the the Datura rush a little more intense, but not markedly and will only make you sleepier.

I think this plant would be a great boon to mediation and self-exploration and definitely as an ally. She is very powerful so use caution and respect when approaching her.
